Hama was surprised to find the Vestibule near GravShaft East empty.

"One violation of protocol always leads to another", he muttered, mouthing the timeworn slogan of his inaugural training as if he were a mother scolding her child. "Now now, Hama--"

Throbbing, stifled ringing replaced silence as Hama was struck in the head from behind. He staggered expressively for a moment, but then fell to the ground in a defenseless, twisted sprawl. He raised his head and torso, but his legs seemed rebellious.

Looking up, Hama recognized his attacker as the jumpsuited fellow from Hiroshige Harriman who had been performing executions on behalf of the ABCC. "So this is how you do it? You suspect me, so you lure me away and do me in?"

"No, Mr. Rahatekar. You misunderstand."

The perpetrator withdrew a seemingly ordinary French-Epstein device from his utility pouch. It was not as large, not as formidable, as the one he had used for executions. "You're here because you're a diagnostician."

"What are you going to do?" asked Hama, kicking and grasping at the ground in a tentative and mostly futile effort to slide backward on his hip and elbow.

"Come with me. I'm here to escort you. You first. Into the maintenance corridor." The man opened a portal in the wall near the GravShaft and helped Hama to his feet.

"I-- I think I must be confused. Did you strike me?"

"You misunderstand. I don't want to harm you." The portal closed behind them. "It's just that... we in Engineering find your aptitudes inconvenient to our mission."

Hama's lifeless body was jettisoned in space far above Olympus Mons.

Later, Chaosraven, gbasden, Kelric, Mr Bubbles, Nade, PR_GMR, Silky, and st_dysan gathered at a crossroad in Nottingham East. By consensus, they put PR_GMR to death in the usual antiseptic way, Silky wielding the oversized device that had itself been modified for that purpose.

"Let's hope his death brings this macabre outbreak to an end!" exclaimed one of the innocents, in an attempt to take the edge off the dark proceedings.

"Yes, let's" muttered Chaosraven. Then, drawing a seemingly ordinary French-Epstein device from his Engineering satchel, he struck Kelric in the chest. Every eye turned toward Kelric's gasping, agonized form as he shrank to the ground. Chaosraven simply followed his victim downward. Throwing his head back and closing his eyes, Chaosraven plunged the device even more deeply.

Before any innocent could react, Chaosraven, gbasden, and Silky, acting with seemingly superhuman strength, threw Mr Bubbles, Nade, and st_dysan to the ground and slit their throats.

Chaosraven looked at Silky. "Here's the Ep." Silky grabbed it and fastened it to Nade's rig, triggered the punch, and initiated some sort of transfer.

"It's never enough. It's just never enough."

"It shouldn't take long to do these other three."

"Yeah, but then what?"

Chaosraven looked first at gbasden, and then at Silky. He sighed. "Neander?"

"And then what?" They looked at each other, knowing one another's thoughts-- knowing the question in its true form had no answer. Knowing it was hopeless. "Fine. Neander." Ripping the device from Nade's rig, he passed it to gbasden.

Good game villagers. This one was a roller coaster ride. There was some good times and some slow times. A lot of people were out in portions during this game. One of them was our slayer partner in crime gbasden.

And then the turning point of the game night 2

Silky wrote:

Congrats to the slayers, although we as innocents deserve a lot of the credit for losing.

I had no sure bets during this game until the very end, I was fairly sure Kelric was a slayer on that last vote...WRONG.. I was not sure about Remus but thought during the time he was as good a choice as anyone.. WRONG again.

Good game all, I look forward to killing more innocents in future games.

I PM"d Remus and said something along the lines of, sorry if I got you killed. That's often the problem with being so sure about someone because they're attacking you while you know you're innocent. Had I stopped fighting with Remus and looked I would have watched a bit more carefully and stuck gsbaden at the top of my list. Anyway... glad I died early so I can sit back and say, "what the heck is the matter with you people!" :D

Austin,

I am sure many people in this game wish they went the way of the dodo earlier. I didn't want to vote for you because we made a good team in this game :) Some feel good vibes from Stormbringer 1 remained.

Does anyone know who triggercut scanned night 1? Or what Newcastle's protection scheme looked like?

We were very conscious of the snare's abilities and apparently got pretty lucky. A number of times our choices revolved around who we thought was least likely to be protected.

I just had a hunch with Triggercut and it apparently turned out to be correct. Remus was trying to hint that he was the tracker but I didn't buy it. I decided that I would hint I was the tracker as well and see if I could get some more information and it worked. Remus all but admitted he was not the tracker so he was brought way down on our slay list.

Keeping Kelric alive turned out to be a fun little challenge and added a good counter balance to ChaosRaven.

The absolute best part in the game had to be Bakhtosh's parting speech and the timing of the slaying. I laughed out loud at that one and I am sure he did as well. We were scared to death that Tosh was the snare.

Overall we got a real lucky draw with who the slayers turned out to be. ChaosRaven is obviously very experienced and served as a good lead man. I tried to play the middle man. gbasden played his role very well as the quiet slayer and turned out to be very wily. Between the three we knew all the tricks of the trade I think. There were a very few times during the game when I said something I wish I hadn't or saw something my partners said that made me cringe.

Mother :binky: s!

Kelric and Mr. Bubbles were actually *innocent*?! Chaosraven, Gbasden and Silky were the Slayers?!

Well-played there by the Slayers, they went completely under the radar. Silky with his 'Can we have more discussion?' ruse. Chaosraven making Kelric and Mr Bubbles look guilty with his analysis. And Gbasden.. for being *quiet* as hell!

good game slayers. When I went out, i was totally fooled. But i was out ages ago. Well done, bravo, you deserve the win.

What made you pick me as a target? Am just curioous. Was actually seriously bummed.

As far as my protection scheme I think on night 1 i protected CR and night 2 I protected RW. Something in that order. Or it might have been kelric. One of those three ..i protected them to a degree during my short time in the game. I think i day protected kelric on day 2.

I was honestly thinking of protecting myself the night i was taken down. Ah well life goes on

Well lets see Newcastle. I think most of that discussion was done over email which I deleted ages ago. I wish now that I kept them. Maybe CR or gbasden can fill in the blanks. During all of this time gbasden has a sick household he was dealing with and I think he got sick as well.

For night three I suggested the choices to Remus, Newcastle, and Kelric. CR wanted Kelric alive for a variety of reasons. Not the least of which to try to pin the Austin lynching on. I was all but convinced that Remus was not the tracker and all three of us had some discussions about that. I still do have some PM's

Silky wrote: (in regard to the Austin lynching)

Any idea on the next slayer target. I am thinking Remus, Newcastle, or Kelric.

ChaosRaven wrote
I think since Austin will show Innocent (oh noes) we should leave Kelric alive and I'll pin it on him...

...I am ok with finally nuking Remus.

and then the next message

Silky wrote:
I think Newcastle is still a little better play at this point. I have 0 problem with Remus but I think it more likely he is protected. I also don't think Remus has much street cred left with his crusade against Austin. If you think it more likely that RW is the hunter still then of course we go that route.

Heh

The most fascinating thing about Chaosraven's final argument to frame Kelric and Bubbles is that it was a superb argument on the merits. The evidence truly looked very bad.

He must've been high-fiving himself when he noticed that.

Here's how the mechanics went:

Code: Select all

Newcastle:
 Protect Chaosraven
 Protect Remus West
Protect gbasden (Newcastle slain this night)

triggercut:
 Scan Remus West
Scan Chaosraven (triggercut slain this night)
Here's triggercut's death narrative:

You picked up his trail on Rec. Mingling among the forest-dwellers who were heading up GravShaft East from the Rec hub, you managed to trail him all the way back to the Ag Vestibule on Residential. He didn't enter one of the forests, as you had expected, but instead made his way toward a maintenance access corridor. You followed, supposing that his engineering jumpsuit made his foray reasonable.

He ducked into a hydroelectric regulator alcove off the corridor, but he was careless, and took no cover. You could see him from far down the corridor in the diffused half-light by means of your Readymounted monocular aug.

He was holding a device that looked like a baton or perhaps a hydraulic rod. What was he doing?

He seemed to be talking to the wall-- or perhaps to someone beyond the wall. Eventually, he poked the device partway into the wall. You moved closer to see more clearly, and recognized that he was passing the device through a small port while talking to some hidden comrade.

"I've taken someone in Nottingham, so there'll be too much commotion there. See about using this in Fitness. It's mostly--"

Though you moved silently, the maintenance corridor had not been made for stealth and you were unaccustomed to its obstacles and acoustics. Your accidental footfall on a grate caught
Chaosraven's attention. Interrupting himself, he turned toward you. The device, held by someone beyond the wall, slipped away through its port.

You had received the Security bulletin. You gathered that with this augmentation tool, he had
Slain someone in one of the Residential zones. But it was too late for you to do anything about it. Sizing you up quickly, he charged and crushed your spine against a titanium hydropressure coupling on the far side of the corridor.

Your last thoughts were of Woody Guthrie.

BTW, FWIW, I scanned Chaos the night I died. The next night I was scanning Silky. His claim of "I've never played a game with triggercut" was just silly, because we've played at least three games together. My antennae were perking on that.

Awesome game, my fellow slayers.

Sorry I was afk for the last week. Bad timing on my part, but you didn't need my help. :)

Chaosraven, I *loved* your statistical analyses. Are those the same conclusions you would have come to as an innocent?

My favorite email exchange of all of them was this one:

from "Christensen, Brendon"
subject RE: Night 4 Choices

Of the players still alive (including the illfated Tosh):

Tru1cy vote: Mr Bubbles, Kelric, Remus, Kraegor, PR_GMR, Silky, st_dysan
Austin vote: Mr Bubbles, Kelric, Remus, Bakhtosh, Chaosraven, Nade
Pr0ner vote: Mr Bubbles, Kelric, Bakhtosh, Chaosraven, Gbasden, Nade,
st_dysan

Funny enough, Remus narrowly avoided being in on all three...

Which may be just suspicious enough (oh lookie! Remus pullz hiz votes
soes he's not on all 3!!! Him killed tru1cy!!! REMUS IZ IN UR SHIP KILLN
ALL UR D00DZ!!!1!)

My perspective on why I voted behind the scenes to kill who we did:

Night One - Orinoco
Behind the scenes:
chaosraven: I think we should kill one of the bad guys from last game...
people might think it's at least one of the others from last time trying
for a "nobody would suspect us". I think it should be Orinoco or Bakhtosh.

chaosraven: I think we leave Bubbles and Bakhtosh alive for now and kill Orinoco... I think the former two may even come up with the idea on their own...

Night Two - Triggercut
(as noted by Silky) he voted with me against tru1cy and then withdrew it when I did. Made me nervous.

Night Three - Newcastle

Yes, I was frothing at the mouth that we should kill Remus. But as noted, my partners talked me out of it.

Night Four - Bakhtosh

Yes, this collection was too priceless to pass up. Hey, he doubledogdared me! Y'know, hanging out after hours with a couple Slayer Buddies and they're all you gonna let him talk to you like that and I'm all like no and they're all like ok then prove it and I'm all ok I will

Night Five - Kraegor

for this -
