FAQ
what if the random day selection of a role to reveal to the Priest happens to be a Deader he has already chosen, and learned about, on a previous night? Does he receive redundant info?
The Confession information will be (1) Nonpowered Player Name (2) That Players "role". It is determined Randomly from the Six Regular Normal Villagers. The Pool is not diminuished by any means (Life, Death, other Abilities, previous Confession).
The same Confession may appear multiple times if the dice fall that way. Yes, the Priest may already have the information given from a Confession, but does not get a replacement Confession.
Regarding the Seer's ability to PM another player.
Is that:
a) one PM from the Seer to the other player - with no Reply by the contacted party allowed.
b) a single 'exchange' of dialog between the two.
c) unlimited exchanges of dialog over the corse of the 'day' between the two.
c)Seer chooses a Player during the Night. Assuming both the Seer and the Target are still alive come Day, they are allowed unlimited exchange during the period of Day until the Majority of votes is achieved.

Does he also receive a list of the Werewolves at the game's beginning?

The Seer and Priest are not given minor Roles, in the event the entire Village comes out they will be exposed.Unagi wrote:I might suggest to give everyone a "role".
This way the Seer or Priest can safely hide behind a "I'm the local baker", and know that a wolf wasn't told the same thing.
edit: alternatively they could fake it, as the List of "roles" will not be public knowledge.

I understand your withholding "official" roles from them as a disincentive to have everyone come out.Chaosraven wrote:The Seer and Priest are not given minor Roles, in the event the entire Village comes out they will be exposed.

Two problems, though. First, as you note, it's trivially easy to lie. "I'm the cooper. I make barrels." See?
Second, if everyone has a role, then nobody has a role. Giving everyone a role is pointless.
Solution? Give roles to everyone (including wolves) except the Seer and Priest, but publicize the list of assigned roles in advance. This will prevent lying, but also prevent mass Kelricking (since the Priest and Seer will be made vulnerable, and the Village doesn't want them vulnered).
The broader issue, though, is this: What are the roles for? They're only useful in the way Unagi and Austin used 'em; and yet, that way of using them is heavily imbalancing.
Ruleset not making sense.

The assumption is that roles give the village personality.Grundbegriff wrote:The broader issue, though, is this: What are the roles for? They're only useful in the way Unagi and Austin used 'em; and yet, that way of using them is heavily imbalancing.
Publishing roles ahead of time is only good if they are dissociated from the game changing roles. If this is the case then publishing or publishing the roles doesn't matter.

The "roles" give the Priest info, and possibly build a block around a surviving Priest. Think of it as 2 Seers, but one Seer has little control over his power.
The Priest Seer has PostMortem ID which he controls, but can only check Dead Individuals, and during the Day potentially receives NonWerewolf verification that he has NO control over.
The SEER Seer has Options and Controls his Power, but receives less information, and can also PROVE himself (PM) to an individual.
Giving the Wolves "roles" is not exactly necessary, as the Priest will never receive them, and the Seer gets "Wolf" as result. It is more for a Wolf Player to USE to "hide" so they don't get exposed by a batch of Villagers, and yes, they could simply say "I am the Comic Book Inker, and my ability is to Trace" off the top of their heads.

What the hell, I said the other ruleset favored the village, I say it again about this one. Still, In. Probably make me a friggin werewolf again. Now that I've said that though, I'm likely the damned Seer.

Actually, with the number of villagers never changing the Priest is not that uber. Still extremely strong but he could also end up gimpped by receiving the same confession three days in a row from a dead player.Grundbegriff wrote:What about the fact, mentioned in post 3 above, that the Priest is hopelessly ueber and leaves the Werewolves little chance to survive make their time?

The Darkness came to the Village, and with it an eerie feeling... the Woofendennites knew the Legends all too well... as the Crimson Moon rose the Growls and Howls confirmed their deepest fears... the WEREWOLVES had Returned!
It is Night.
Werewolves must choose a Victim.
Seer must choose to SCAN/CONTACT

Observations:
- The Remus Rule: Don't scan me or anyone else who's likely to die soon. Scan someone who's likely to stay alive, so the information will remain useful. It's hard to choose among total strangers in the endgame.
- Don't Kelric: If everyone steps forward now and reveals his role (including lies from the Priest and Seer), what happens? The Priest and Seer have to wait and self-identify last, so they don't select imaginary roles that are already taken or radically inconsistent with the roles Chaosraven actually doled out. The Werewolves then need only look for who Kelricked last, or for who Kelricked most discrepantly, and they'll have the Specials.
- Use your bean: If someone steps forward and claims he's the Butcher, but you know you're the Butcher, should you expose the lie? The wolves already have cover stories, and have no reason to risk exposure by adopting the role of someone still alive. So if someone steps up and claims your role (which would take a lucky guess on his part as to which trade names -- Baker, Butcher, Carpenter, etc. -- Chaosraven used), that person might very well be a Very Clever Special trying to signal his identity and gain your anonymous trust.
- Specials, consider self-identifying under a trade name. You have no artisanal role. But if you claim one, and it's one that was actually assigned, the bearer of that role will know you're up to something. If that person's innocent, he'll perhaps trust you more; but if that person's a Werewolf, you'll seal your own doom.
- Normals, don't be afraid to emulate the a Special to draw fire away from the real Specials. Of course, this will only work once or, at most, twice per game. Still, it's a good gambit if the timing and circumstance is right. Throws the furballs off their game.

Very excited to play again!
I am happy to report that I no longer thatch roofs.
Lets see here, should I reveal my new trade roll now or wait for a little while in hopes to link with a Seer/Priest. Linking may actually be a ‘wolf’ thing to try, so maybe waiting too long would be less helpful. Also, I’m not certain how much ‘Night 1’ talk we should get into.
Grundbegriff’s game analysis has the interesting effect of making me trust him and suspect him simultaneously. Everything he’s said so far seems helpful and not misleading, so I am inclined to trust him at this point. Remus, on the other hand, should just never be trusted.

First off, Austin, that was a horrible joke.
Second, I don't like the idea of announcing our "roles". The specials would need to make one up thus possibly matching the one given the wolves which would get them killed. The Wolves need not announce the ones they were actually given so any match between us and an announced role could signal a wolf, a special, or villager trying to pose as a special to throw the wolves offgiven Grund's above ideas. I'm not seeing how we gain much information from announcing them since no one save the Priest can check them. They are thus more useful for verifying the Priest than for verifying us. Wolves can not pose as the Priest as long as the Priest has a confession he can tell us about. They can not but guess at our roles.
Leave it to CR to create a game where the best thing the Priest can do is plan to break the confidence of the confessional.
