Ipod Annoyances

Post by EvilHomer3k »

Is there a way to just move songs to/from the ipod without going through iTunes.
Is there a way to get the iPod to work with 2 computers?

I began syncing my iPod with my laptop and then went to sync with my main pc and had to install iTunes and then iTunes deleted everything on my iPod that I had put on there. I'd like to store all of my music on my iPod but really don't want to lose it if I have a hd crash or do a windows reinstall.

Finally, is there a way to take the iTunes playlist (and song info like ratings) to other pc's. I'd like to bring my music collection to work and listen to it. But, I don't want to put a bunch of effort into rating songs and fixing tags if I can't transfer it home.

1. Yes - there are other programs out there that let you just drag and drop, etc. ElphPod (or something like that) was one I used for awhile, but back in the day it had some problems and kept screwing up my playlists.

2. Not using iTunes. Perhaps using another program would allow you to do it.

3. I know you can export playlists to a text file and import them on another computer. But I'm not sure if you can export out all of the ratings, etc. Sorry, I'll have to poke around.

I love my iPod's functionality, but I hate Apple's draconian control over everything you do. Here's our hardware, here's our software, use it how we want you to and we'll also go ahead and take control of your files for you. Gee, thanks.

Ephpod. It is the only software I've ever used for my iPod.

Oh, and it uses .M3U so playlists are no problem.

Thank you very much guys for the info. That reminds me of the first Rio player (first mp3 player that existed and that I bought...) The forced software was horrible almost like that and I had to use a bugged independant software. I'll never buy a Ipod. Go Creative!

As for your problem, sorry, I feel your pain.

That's interesting. I had a Creative Nomad Jukebox, and I hated it - mostly because the software was really bad. I bought an iPod because I really liked iTunes and was already using it.

What was bad about the software of the nomad? You can synchronise the player with the library anytime, or just download/upload single/multiples songs. There is no evil protection in it. The speed is fast and I never had a bug.
