HP are being naughty.

Post by Blackhawk »

A Georgia woman has sued Hewlett-Packard Co., claiming the ink cartridges for their printers are secretly programed to expire on a certain date, in some cases rendering them useless before they are even installed in a printer.
Full story

Given some of the other measures that printer manufacturers have implemented to ensure maximum sales of thier printer cartridges, preventing refilling, and so on, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if this were true.

Yeah, but this only works if you can be assured that people will buy the inks before they expire in the packaging. Otherwise you have pissed off retailers shipping you back tons of opened, returned stock.

I'm sure they do everything they can to screw people, but designing inks that "expire" even while sealed seems a bit much.

I'm with Beef on this one.

I somehow picture one of those crazy old ladys that dosen't know how to install a cartridge on a printer.

Crazy Old Lady: You put secret expiration dates on your printer cartridges!

HP: No ma'am, you have the cartridge in upside-down.
