(WW) Runebound - Descent (under construction)
The Overlord has sent his Avatars to rule the lands.
Characters:
2 Avatars of the Overlord (The Bad Guys)
The Avatars have many powers, but limited resources to use them.
THREAT: the Avatars gain One Threat each Night, plus one per Hero in the game.
The Avatars are allowed to communicate at Night Only.
The Avatars may spend Threat to use one of the following abilities.
1 Threat - communicate during the following Day
2 Threat - Scan one living player and learn whether that Player is a Hero or a Townsfolk
3 Threat - Scan one dead player and learn what that players role was (Townsfolk or Hero, in the case of a Hero, the actual Hero is known)
10 Threat - attempt to create a Minion. Only Townsfolk may become a Minion. If this is attempted on a Hero, the Threat is spent with no effect.
15 Threat - attempt to create an Avatar. Any player may become an Avatar. Avatars will lose all previous abilities.
(Minion) (converted Townsfolk)
Minions are informed who the Avatars are, but are not allowed communication with them.
-------------------------
Townsfolk
these are the normal people with one special ability, once per game, they may cost the Overlord one threat. To do so will reveal that player to the Avatars as a Townsfolk. No other players will be informed.
--------------------------
The Heroes
There will be between 2-5 Heroes (randomly determined) from a possible list of 6 Heroes
Bogran the Shadow - Rune of Masking: may Mask one or two Players each Night. Masked players count as Townsfolk for the purpose of determining how much Threat the Overlord receives. Bogran may target himself with this ability, but if he does, the Avatars are informed that Bogran the Shadow is alive (but not who he is).
Landrec the Wise - Rune of Knowledge: every morning, Landrec is informed of the Overlords threat total. Landrec may give up his Rune (and become a Townsfolk) after a Lynch to be informed of all the expenditures of Threat to that point in the game (in order of cost only).
Astarra the Runewitch - Rune of Telepathy: each Night, Astarra may either (scan) or (PM). Astarra will be told Overlord or Countrymen, with both Minions and Avatars revealed as Overlord, both Heroes and Townsfolk as Countrymen when she uses the (scan). Astarra will be allowed PM communication with any Player she has previously scanned if she chooses PM. In the event Astarra is killed during the PM Night, her Rune will be passed to the other Player, but can only be used to PM her previous scans. In the event a Player is Converted to either a Minion or Avatar, she will be informed of the Action, but not the Target.
Sir Valadir - Greatsword of Olmric: while he possesses the Greatsword, Sir Valadir cannot be converted. Sir Valadir may (during the day before majority vote for a lynch) consume the Greatsword in an attempt to slay any one Player. After the Sword is used, Sir Valadir becomes a Townsfolk.
Corvus - Rune of Warding: Corvus may choose a target each Night for Protection. The target cannot be killed or converted that Night. Corvus may choose himself, but may not choose the same target on consecutive Nights.
Mata and Kata - Rune of Transformation: this is two Players who will be linked by PM at all times. In the event either is Masked by Bogran, both are Masked. In the event either is converted, the other will Die.

Sounds interesting...
Quick question: Let's say that there are 2 Avatars and 3 Heros. At night, would avatars get total of 4 points (1+3) or 8 ({1+3}x2) ?

WHat are the power limits? Is it like 'mana' or something that requires X power depending on the power used and it regenerates over time?

It is at this point I am awaiting the grundverbose analysis of how things don't work or conflict, and Remus to find the two ways some part of the rules are broken for either side

Re: (WW) Runebound - Descent (under construction)
I assume that since you put the word "attempt" in there that if they hit a protected target when they try to convert they still lose the threat. Correct?
Also, are the threat cost items in addition to ordinary actions? That is if the bad guys save up threat can they attempt to convert a minion and kill a player?
Can they do multiple threat cost items in a single day/night (thus saving to convert multiple guys at once)?
What is the difference between a minion and an avatar (as far as win conditions?)?
How are lynches identified? As townsfolk/villain or as minion/avatar/townsfolk/hero or some other manner?
Most importantly, if you play a Beastman Warparty am I allowed to nut punch you?

Any expenditure of Threat would use it up, even if the result is not accomplishedRemus West wrote:I assume that since you put the word "attempt" in there that if they hit a protected target when they try to convert they still lose the threat. Correct?
Hmmm. Perhaps the Conversion attempts are "Modify the Night Attack into a conversion attempt"Remus West wrote:Also, are the threat cost items in addition to ordinary actions? That is if the bad guys save up threat can they attempt to convert a minion and kill a player?
I'd think multiple *different* items from the list would be allowed, no multiples of same item.Remus West wrote:Can they do multiple threat cost items in a single day/night (thus saving to convert multiple guys at once)?
Minions count towards the Overlords total for Winning as long as an Avatar still lives. If all Avatars are Dead, the Overlord loses (as do the Minions).Remus West wrote:What is the difference between a minion and an avatar (as far as win conditions?)?
Townsfolk (representing Heroes and Normal Townsfolk)Remus West wrote:How are lynches identified? As townsfolk/villain or as minion/avatar/townsfolk/hero or some other manner?
or
Overlord (representing Avatars and Minions)
This will have to be discussed further.Remus West wrote:Most importantly, if you play a Beastman Warparty am I allowed to nut punch you?

Well, your mod will be out of town this weekend for this game so even if the other wraps up (which should be soon) this won't be started until later I would guess. Plus I think he is still ironing out wrinkles.Newcastle wrote:soooo....if that one will never end, then we should get this one raring to go? unless there is another one in line prior to this....

Yes, please remember this is in theoretical planning stage, needing loophole exanimation and broken mechanix to be worked out.
Feel free to express interest here, but if you have questions and observations those would very handy.

Re: (WW) Runebound - Descent (under construction)
Some thoughts...
When Avatar's attempt to create a minion and select a hero and fail, will the hero realize he was targeted?
Is there no action that allows the Avatars to kill a player outright? Maybe - 7 Threat - Crushing Block - Attempt to kill on player. The Avatars may spend Threat to use one of the following abilities:
1 Threat - communicate during the following Day
2 Threat - Scan one living player and learn whether that Player is a Hero or a Townsfolk
3 Threat - Scan one dead player and learn what that players role was (Townsfolk or Hero, in the case of a Hero, the actual Hero is known)
10 Threat - attempt to create a Minion. Only Townsfolk may become a Minion. If this is attempted on a Hero, the Threat is spent with no effect.
15 Threat - attempt to create an Avatar. Any player may become an Avatar. Avatars will lose all previous abilities.

Re: (WW) Runebound - Descent (under construction)
Couple of questions or rather things to point out -
1. The Avatars can easily tell the number of heroes left, but not the identity through the # of threat that they receive in the evenings. I dont know if this is game breaking or not. But it's a source of information.
2. The Good guys really have two ways of knowing if anything has happened...conversion or bad guy actions. One through the Landrec the wise. And two is Astaran the witch. I would think that landrec the wise is powerful, information wise. Because with a reasonable guess, he can decipher what the bad guys did with their threat...which is good and bad.
I think the threat idea is interesting, however I almost want to think that initially the game is geared more toward the good guys, the bad guys dont have many powers to work with and cant do much besides lay low and wait on threat to accumulate. Conversely, as the game progresses if the bad guys accumulate enough threat, then they can rock out in the end. But, if too many heroes are alive, then that can severely hamper them, because the good guys will have cleared enough innocents. I think it really depends on the number of heroes who are present in the game or which ones which will see how balanced the game can be. The more heroes, the higher difficulty for the bad guys, but they want the heroes so that there is the threat generated.
Just putting some #'s out, if there are 4 heroes, then the bad guys get 5 threat per night as long as they are alive. Obviously they would want to save up to make a minion or avatar...so they would not be able to make an offspring until night 2 or three at the earliest. Ok Ramblings off.

Edit: Nevermind, misunderstood. Multiples of the same in the game is good. Multiples of the same in one day/night is bad.

Unless there is a Masking going on -
Bogran the Shadow - Rune of Masking: may Mask one or two Players each Night. Masked players count as Townsfolk for the purpose of determining how much Threat the Overlord receives. Bogran may target himself with this ability, but if he does, the Avatars are informed that Bogran the Shadow is alive (but not who he is).
