Idea for new WW game
So, given that I have some non-playing time on my hands I was thinking of ways to keep the dead involved.
Each player will be assigned one quirk which they are to play out in their posts. These quirks will not be posted but will be the only spoiler given to the dead. Each night the dead will vote on the player they think played their quirk the best during the previous day. That player will be granted night protection. Since the dead will not be given (and are not to share) the roles of any other player it is entirely possible they grant protection to a wolf. This voting will be by PM with a set time limit. If a deader vote is not in by the time I receive all night orders the vote will not count. No votes will be counted before night begins.
Thoughts?

Sounds like an interesting twist to apply to any game. A random outside source influencing the outcome of the game and encouraging participation - even after death. I like it.

Re: Idea for new WW game
I tried to incorporate a mini-game for the dead into one of my Gallows games. IIRC, the dead were allowed to select someone and communicate once per night with him to give salient advice.
The dead weren't into it.
They might be into it if they were more consequential, providing protecting nightly as you suggest. But then, having that much power over the ongoing game sort of strips death of its meaning. It would be equivalent to leave a character alive (and empowered) but strike him dumb.

Will there be any other roles (priest, hunter) like a normal WW game with just the quirk being the added twist? Or is the only way to gain protection is by having the dead vote for you? How are ties between the dead handles?Remus West wrote:So, given that I have some non-playing time on my hands I was thinking of ways to keep the dead involved.

Ok, I have a thought. The quirks are more for roleplaying I guess.
For example, quirk = swears alot.
Is there anyway the living players can use the quirk of a player to idenity a wolf or special? That way, people can't be obvious about the quirk?

The only way to gain protection would be via vote of the dead. Ties would be broken by first target to reach whatever the tie is at (thus giving the wolves a leg up on that if they have been killedScoop20906 wrote:Will there be any other roles (priest, hunter) like a normal WW game with just the quirk being the added twist? Example:
Player 1 Wolf - Grumpy old dude
Player 2 Seer - Heroine addict
Player 3 is dead. He is told "Player 1 is a grumpy old dude. Player 2 is a Heroine addict. Cast your vote for night protection based on their post reflecting these quirks."

Yeah, this is interesting enough to try. Certainly gives us dead dudes something to do. However, I am guessing we can choose to vote to protect whoever we want even if their aren't performing their quick well. Correct?Remus West wrote:The only way to gain protection would be via vote of the dead.

You will have no information other than the players' quirks and are to use their roleplaying to guide your votes. However, there is nothing to prevent you from casting a vote for anyone you want. The votes of the dead will be done via PM to me and you are not to discuss your votes with other deaders.Scoop20906 wrote:However, I am guessing we can choose to vote to protect whoever we want even if their aren't performing their quick well. I guess what I am saying is that if the Seer is killed knowing someone is a wolf does not mean they have to vote for that wolf no matter how well the player represents his quirk.

Re: Idea for new WW game
So is the point to give the
's something to do or to force the players to Role play?
If it is for the
's, then I don't see the point of the role play. It is a tough mechanic to enforce and you even stated that you are not going to. Why not set up a forum where the ghosts can talk and select someone to protect? If there is a Sorcerer role, then no one will ever know if the Sorcerer isn't manipulating things to his advantage (whether on earth or in heaven). Or go with the Seance mechanic where, as long as the
's aren't spoiled, they can comment on anything right up to their death? I was re-reading old games recently and saw one where the Medium got to talk to one person a night. That could be cool too if properly balanced.
If it is for the players, then I think you are bound to fail. Some people just don't like to role play. And how would you feel if you did a great job role playing but ended up dead because the buffoon
's chose someone else? The inhumanity of it all!!!

Not going to set up a forum because I don't want the dead to talk to each other. Voting blind means that a dead wolf can cast his vote to protect his buddy every night without the rest of the dead knowing thus giving a dead wolf impact as well.

This would be especially amusing if the living players do not know the list of quirks in advance. That way, the dead judge the performances, but the living play the minigame of trying to figure out each person's quirk (which could lead to a sense of who's doing his thing best, and thus to an informed guess about whom the dead might protect).

I had no intention of giving the list of quirks to any living players. Then you've thought of everything!Remus West wrote:I had no intention of giving the list of quirks to any living players. Due entirely to the thinking you outlined.
How else might the death thing be exploited? Perhaps a Medium who's only allowed to receive from his ghost (a) the definitive quirk of one character, and (b) any facts the deader knew at the time of death? Perhaps a haunting in which one among the Living receives knowledge of a quirk, but not of its assignment?

I hadn't given thought to what roles I would use but I like that. Maybe give the old traditional "One post from a deader" but limit the information regarding the quirks that the contacted deader can reveal. Maybe the Medium can request a specific player's quirk. Not sure yet.Grundbegriff wrote:Then you've thought of everything!Remus West wrote:I had no intention of giving the list of quirks to any living players. Due entirely to the thinking you outlined.

I had planned another break from these games after the current one ends simply because I'm getting burned out. But this game intrigues me.

but when you die so early in games, how can you get burned out?

Some claim to be things they aren't.
Some claim things they don't deserve.
Some claim to know more than they ever will.
I don't claim anything, because no one would believe the truth anyways.
