Yes I will.
You won't think it funny or great news when I join the flood of people relocating to Canada in response to her winning.

What was the winning result of GreenGoo's "how long could I stay with you" poll? I'll need to cite that when my family is relocating.

Also GreenGoo, if there's anyone in the race right now that would wind up invading Canada, it would be President Bachmann.

Invading Canada is not such a bad move. If we don't have a plan for defense against them can they have one for defense against us? We'll just tell them we are increasing the number of customs agents to keep their sense of security up and then....wham. Welcome to the newest and largest state. Freedom bacon for everyone. :D

I'm not going to brave the moose troops to flee to Canada. I'd likely either head for the UK, NZ, or Australia. I can't handle tundra. And south isn't an option. Turns out "The South will rise again." is true, it's just that the definition of "South" has shifted over the last 150 years.

Didn't Huckabee win Iowa in 2008? I'm not sure it's a great predictor of the eventual republican nominee. Even if the social conservative Evangelical angle and the home court advantage push her over the top in Iowa, I can only assume she'd get crushed in New Hampshire.

I wouldn't count Bachmann out in New Hampshire. I read that she's already made several visits to diners in Lexington and Concord.

Romney is wisely writing off Iowa, since some nutjob will inevitably carry that state, and putting everything he's got into NH.

Meh.

Expectations are so low for her that unless she runs amok and starts snorting bacon I barely notice any longer.

How people can not only support her, but be proud of her lack of elitism (i.e. unable to understand even the most basic ideas, aside from PR) and their own, is beyond me. It actually might be a sign of the apocalypse. I mean that literally. We have a financial apocalypse waiting to engulf us and some people want to put the dumbest people they can find in charge. It's almost like watching the great drive of humanity to improve itself, but in reverse.

Dear. Lord.

Politicians say stupid shit.

Some just have people recording, analyzing, and beating the drums on them more than others. It became clear early on that the left was going to character assassinate this woman and butcher her until she wouldn't be a threat anymore.

Does Biden -- a heartbeat away from the presidency -- get the same treatment?
Did Clinton?
Did Carter?
Does Obama?

I know sure as hell I've seen this tactic before....
W Bush.
Bush
Reagan

Should I go on? I would call you hypocrites, but I know it's merely the talking points of weaken-the-threats strategy. That's not hypocrisy, it's strategery.
It's 109 first team All-Americans.
It's a college football record 61 bowl appearances.
It's 34 bowl victories.
It's 24 Southeastern Conference Championships.
It's 15 National Championships.

At some places they play football. At Alabama we live it.

Yes, character assassinating Sarah Palin by quotin' her verbatim.

Gee, I wonder why Romney doesn't get called an idiot? It must be because millions of liberals all collectively decided that the best strategery was to spread some slander that Palin might not be up to speed on history and policy. That is the only logical explanation.

+1.

Please tell me you aren't seeing Palin as a viable leader of the free world msd. Or even just the US. What possible traits of hers or even platforms make her worthy of anything but contempt and parody.

She is, literally, a caricature.

My "are you serious" was more directed at the blindered notion that people don't make fun of Joe Biden for what he says. As far as I can tell, the tendency to say amusing stupid things is the only attribute that raises Joe Biden to the level where he is worth attention.

But I share the view that Palin ought not be viewed as a serious candidate.

.
Are you seriously suggesting that every other politician doesn't have the press recording their every public utterance?

The idea that reporting her words is "character assassination" is as laughable as Gingrich's insistence that anyone who quotes his words is lying or Kyl suggesting that his statements "weren't intended to be a factual statement."

I know. My +1 was all I had to say on that. The rest was me being incredulous at msd defending her, particularly in a thread where she is being mocked for giving the Saturday morning cartoon version of the Paul Revere story, including batman and tinkerbell in the tale as well.

Part of me thinks msd posted that just to get my goat after I expressed displeasure at her and anyone who supports her.

We take our Paul Revere history seriously in these parts. What she said:
“You know what? I didn’t mess up about Paul Revere,’’ said Palin, a paid Fox News contributor and possible GOP presidential candidate. “Part of his ride was to warn the British that we’re already there. That, hey, you’re not going to succeed. You’re not going to take American arms.’’

...

After a visit to Old North Church, Palin was asked about Paul Revere’s ride and said he “warned the British that they weren’t going to be taking away our arms. By ringing those bells and making sure as he’s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be secure and we were going to be free.’’

Online video of Palin’s initial telling of Paul Revere’s ride quickly went viral, drawing much criticism from those who said Palin was unaware that the famous ride was to warn American patriots that the British were planning to attack.

Palin, a frequent guest on Fox News Sunday, called the reporter’s inquiry a “shout-out, gotcha type of question’’ and insisted her grasp on American history was firm.

“Here is what Paul Revere did. He warned the Americans that the British were coming . . . and they were going to try take our arms and we got to make sure that we were protecting ourselves and shoring up all of ammunitions and our firearms so that they couldn’t take it,’’ Palin said yesterday. “But remember that the British had already been there, many soldiers for seven years in that area. And part of Paul Revere’s ride — and it wasn’t just one ride — he was a courier, he was a messenger. Part of his ride was to warn the British that we’re already there. . . . You are not going to beat our own well-armed persons, individual, private militia that we have. He did warn the British.’’
The verdict: She was sort of accidentally right.
Brendan McConville, professor of history at Boston University, said yesterday that — contrary to what Palin seemed to suggest — the intent of Paul Revere’s ride was to warn the Concord area that the British were coming to seize their munitions cache, and to warn Revolutionary leaders Samuel Adams and John Hancock that they faced arrest.

“His intent was to mobilize the countryside,’’ McConville said. “His intent was to warn them.’’

However, McConville said that while Revere wasn’t looking to attract British attention as he rode, after he was captured he did give a warning to the British soldiers, telling them that American patriots were ready to take them on.

“What she’s saying there is essentially right,’’ he said. When Paul Revere was stopped by British soldiers the night of his famous ride, “he did say to them that the countryside is mobilizing and you’ve lost the element of surprise.’’

McConville said that while some of what Palin said is historically accurate, her wording is misleading. “I would describe her as lucky in her history as opposed to knowledgeable in her history,’’ he said.

I read somewhere a quote from The Penn. Governor ( a dem, who's name escapes me). In that he said dont underestimate Santorum, in his first house race he knocked on 25,000 doors....thats a shit ton. Taking into account a good rate of knocking on doors per hour is about 15-20. That's an beefy number, to hit, i mean yeah probably over a 6 month period. But still if you include all the other things a candidate has to do during an 18 hour day....having to attend brunches, meetings, press interviews, fundraisers, travel time to and from events....and all that other stuff a candidate does....it just shows dogged determination.

Would be interesting to see what his ground operation in iowa is..looks like it will be a must win (or get a close second or third) ....looks like him and bachman will make Iowa there bustout state...since romney & huntsman are skipping it. Pawlenty probably has more legs and can survive not winning iowa.

Ok, this is even more awesome than the Revere quote itself. As may have been linked earlier, Palin doubled-down (reloaded, in her parlance) on the Revere history:
“But remember, that the British had already been there,” Palin said. “Many soldiers for seven years in that area. And part of Paul Revere’s ride — and it wasn’t just one ride — he was a courier, he was a messenger. Part of his ride was to warn British that were already there. That, ‘Hey, you are not going to succeed. You are not going to take American arms. You are not going to beat our own well-armed persons, individual, private militia that we have.’ He did warn the British. And in a shout out, gotcha question that was asked of me, I answered candidly. And I know my American history.”
Now you might be wondering, what is this "gotcha question' that was asked of Palin? Here it is:
“What have you seen so far today and what are you going to take away from your visit?”
I mean honestly, who could put together a coherent answer to that kind of intense scrutiny?

The more I think about it, the more I think that Palin has no shot at the nomination if she runs. The GOP elite can get just as much conservatism and crazy from another candidate (Bachmann, Santorum) without nearly as much baggage and who can handle a simple question and a debate. Meanwhile the Tea Party has other candidates that it can choose who fill the same policy desires (again Bachmann or Santorum, and possibly other candidates if they get in).

Colbert reenacts Revere's ride, and causes people to vandalize Wiki's Bell page forcing them to revert it.

It also makes me wonder if potentially the edits to Revere's page might have been satire, rather than the work of Palin fans.
