Got in on a presale for Opeth and just bought my tickets for the show in October!

Skinpupy, if you are interested i can give you a link to a presale for all shows. I know it's early, but i'm not missing this show and it wouldn't surprise me if it sells out.

When i saw Amon Amarth a couple months ago it had sold out and there were lots of people begging for tickets outside the venue. Didn't want to be one of those guys....thats for sure!

Back on the fence for Creepshow versus the Cobras. Some friends of mine are going to Creepshow and we never see each other. They told me about seeing the Flaming Lips and kidnapping the band after the show when their manager wasn't looking and I feel like I totally miss out if I'm at a different show then them now.

Toots & The Maytals will be in Las Vegas two days before we arrive. They will be in Tucson the day before we get back.

Stephen Stills/Neil Young/Richie Furay are doing some Buffalo Springfield reunion shows in So. CA, but not playing anywhere else (for now).

The Decemberists show was a lot of fun. They played the Raleigh Amphitheater which is a smaller venue than I'm used to, and I loved the more intimate setting. They were actually better live than I expected, even though I had heard good things.

Sara Watkins from Nickel Creek filled in for Jenny who is undergoing cancer treatment. She did an awesome job - I saw her solo concert a couple of years back so I knew I would not be disappointed. Colin was in top form - the band really sounded great.

My only minor disappointment is that they played tracks off their most recent albums almost exclusively - while I love a lot of those songs there were many I was not as familiar with. "July July" and a couple of tracks off Picaresque was as far back as they went, and they kept it very mainstream with none of their more unusual "novelty" songs.

Still I got to see one of my favorite bands live under the stars with my wife by my side, so I'm not complaining. Had a blast and can't wait to go back because that is an awesome little amphitheater.

The Moody Blues show last night was great, but it was COLD as hell out on the lawn. Along with a persistent drizzle. So conditions sucked (along with the sushi at the park. Ew.) but the music was great.

Saw Deep Purple with an Orchestra this past week at the Wang in Boston. Old guys still do great job. Would highly recommend seeing them if they are in your area. Opening act is Ernie and The Automatics who do some great classic sounding music. It helps they have two members from Boston and the sax form the Beaver brown Band.

So far the rest of our summer line up is

And recently added to our schedule is Ryan Bingham at the Royale in Boston. Unfortunately it is a Friday night and they start the music early so they can clear you our at 10 for the NightClub scene. Although it does make it easier to get back to the Cape that night.

Saw Black Jake and the Carnies again this weekend. On the rare times they leave SE Michigan, they will need to be a band you see. So much fun. They are the carnies for a reason. They play games with the audience all night long and their music is fantastic. Their crabgrass version of "I Turned Into a Martian" was a particular highlight, which is not to say their own material isn't incredible.

Saw the Doobie Brothers last night. Those guys know how to jam. I wasn't familiar with them but a friend had his son back out, so I went along in his place.

Very entertaining.

I remember going to see the Doobie Brothers back in the early '80s with a bunch of my friends. It was a great show until one of them got busted trying to bootleg the concert. I tried telling him that the rain coat was too much, but he didn't listen.

Tonight is opening night for the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra at Millennium Park, a free, top-notch orchestra and venue publicly funded since the depression (the 1930's one, not the current economic cluster fuck). The schedule this year is awesome like it always is, and tonight is Berlioz Symphony Fantastique as well as Ravel's Piano Concerto in G Major, two pieces I like a lot.

Weather forecast for today was rain, storms, and rain.

I checked last night, and the concert is broadcast live on WFMT.com. Yay! So I'm at home instead, sipping wine along with some goat cheese, and I can hear the heavy rain downtown (as well as outside my window). I'm glad this one was broadcast...I would have been tempted to get soaked otherwise.

I saw the Doobie Brother's about 9 years ago myself and damn they were great. They are one of those bands that play alot of songs you forgot or you didn't know it was them. Kinda like when i saw Hall and Oats years ago as well.

Thrill Kill Kult are playing with two local bands I know tonight and Creepshow are playing with local band I know tomorrow.

Sorry Z, gonna miss the Cobras. Hopefully you get out early enough to see Girl in a Coma and they have an on sort of night. When they are aware of crowd and actually playing for them, they are fantastic. When they are just going through the motions, not so much. I was going to go and just too many of my friends are going to be Creepshow... all of whom say the Cobras put on a great show... One day I'll make a Corbras show... One day...

Going to Hard Rock Calling next weekend. Have inlaws that work/did work at Hard Rock so got back stage passes for almost free (cost cheaper than the free food/drink we'll enjoy). Don't really care for the bands though wife likes some, but gave us an excuse to finally take a trip to London. The Killers and Kaiser Chiefs are the closest thing to tolerable to me besides Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks since I do like classic rock (have no albums but dont mind them on classic rock stations). Still, it beats just sitting at home even if its a live band I dont like, at least its free food and drink and I'll be in a different country.

Show is at 9:00, two bands before Girl in a Coma, then the Cobras. So we should be good...it'll be a late night show...

I would love to see Kaiser Chiefs. I've been watching out for them for several years.

I saw them...um...31 years ago?

1980 at Alpine Valley. They were good, but their opening band was more fascinating to me: The Dixie Dregs.

While the show was fandamtastic, the thing the struck me is I can't remember that last time I have seen such a crown beautiful people. The night was simply stunning to watch people.

Went to Millennium Park to see Iron & Wine a few weeks ago but we didn't stay long for the free Monday night concerts. We didn't stay though, there isn't any point standing out in the heat for a band you can't see or hear.

As a sort of do-over date, my wife and I went to Evanston last week to see a small folk/rock band Horse Feathers. It was a complete opposite experience than our attempt to see Iron & Wine. A small intimate venue with a table, a/c, and beer. The band was pretty good too.

In July we are going to see Tinariwen at Lincoln Hall. Bluesy West African Desert music goodness.

Late August I'm taking my wife to see Alison Krauss for her birthday. She's much more excited about it than me, but I guess that's alright since it is her birthday.

I have tickets for Dream Theater in Rome of July 4th and Zurich on July 6th... I want to make it back over for the moscow and Kiev shows a week or so later but not sure I can swing it with work.

If not then, Ill head over for the Katowice Poland at the end of the month.

I love love love Alison Krauss. I don't guess it will be the most entertaining stage show in the world, but as far as vocals/musicianship I'm sure it will be top-notch.

I really like Melissa Etheridge up until about Yes I am. The whole direction she took with all that "Come to my Window" kept all of her thematic longing but it started feel too woe be to Melissa for me and it overshadowed groove of the music.

Stevie Nicks just announced is coming to Red Rocks in August!!!!

Stevie is in the top 2 or 3 of my favorite artists of all time. Really wanted to see her a few years back with Fleetwood Mac but just couldn't spend the prices they wanted on tickets. She was "my girl" growing up as a kid in the late 70's early 80's.

Never seen her and now i'm not passing up a chance to see her at Red Rocks. Wife told me it doesn't matter the price, she wants to take me.

Reasonable for a big band but more than I'd pay for FF whom I was debating. I'd pay that price if they were still playing railroad stations with with Mumford and Sons and Edward Sharps. But not so much for an evening at the Hill Aud.

Oh, I know what you mean. I think at that point, it started to feel like her sexuality was driving the music rather than the music itself. I never was very enamoured of her material after that, but it seems like she's getting back in the groove, with this song at least.

Fleet Foxes are playing three consecutive dates here in Seattle (their 'home town') and all the tickets are priced for $34... i can't imagine $80+ for this band.

went to ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead last night. i was more tired than anything, so i didn't get hugely into the show... but it was a triple Austin TX lineup, and the first opening band, Follow That Bird, were pretty good. second opener Ringo Deathstarr were leaning waaay too heavily on the late80s/early90s Jesus and Mary Chain influence for me to take seriously.

just got a one-day pass for this (Biosphere!) but the field trip tickets were already sold out:

As the name “substrata” implies, it is about subtle aesthetics that go beneath the surface and into deeper aural territories.

At its nucleus: a two-day performance program, followed by an auditory field trip to the beautiful Cascade mountain range. During the field trip, a small group of participants will spend time with the performing artists while capturing environmental recordings. Saw Rush last night at the Clark County Amphitheater. They played a great show. By far the highlight was the beginning of the second half when they played "Moving Pictures" in order.

Looks like a summer of mostly nothing so far. It's a good thing the Creepshow were so good because I'm not seeing much otherwise, really. I need to expand my musical tastes and I'm not sure how nor where to begin.

But I should finally see Roger Clyne and Peacemakers this time around. There on a Saturday and everything and at a venue I've never been to before, the Eagle, in Pontiac. I always like seeing shows at new places. It's a sort of bonus to going out and gives me that sort of Critic feel for the night where I not only get to see the band but give the thumbs up or thumbs down for the venue. For instance, being in New Pontiac, I already know I am going to have to pay to park in an otherwise vacant lot in a dead community and that annoys me as independent parking lot owners often do. I hope they get taxed to hell for the "service" they provide and they get audited.
