Re: OO Boardgamers, what did you play this weekend?
My make Knight order from FunAgain ships today, woo!
I shoulda bought it the first tiime around once I saw who the designer was.
There are 4 designers that I am a big fan of:
Uwe Rosenberg - his games are similar, but are all at least good, and sometimes awesome. Agricola is one of my top 10 games, as is Ora et Labora
Vlaada Chvatil: TtA is a masterpiece. Space Alert and Galaxy Trucker are both awesome. Not one of his games is a retread of a past game, something that Rosenberg is guily of, to some degree.
Antoine Bauza: Hanabi is probably my 3rd favorite game. Seven Wonders is good, and Ghost Stories is awesome.
Stefan Feld: While I've only played Castles of Burgundy and his new game Trajan, but both are fantastic. I need to try Notre Dame and In the Year of the Dragon.

Boardsandbits.com has stated that they will be getting all of their copies of Mage Knight in, plus some extra. Price there is 55 bucks, plus shipping (but I think shipping is 9.00 flat rate, I believe).

oooh...me like. Honestly, the trash phase never sees play in our games so having an alternate method to thin your deck of ensigns is a welcome change. Plus, you can upgrade the other basic crew cards as a reward for completing missions.

I think there needs to be more deck manipulation so you don't run face-first into a big ass ship your first time out. I dunno. Or the Crystalline Entity.

Re: OO Boardgamers, what did you play this weekend?
And I'm okay with the format change. I don't want to combine this with the previous two games. Each generation of the show should have its own separate game (and expansion) in my opinion. Plus, they learn what works and what doesn't from feedback and incorporate those things into future iterations as we've seen (the mission deck from phase 2 was better than phase 1 i thought, for example). I'm on this the moment it shows up in my FLGS.
p.s. if they don't have this card in the set, I'll be royally pissed....and there should be a table rule that when played, you have to yell, "Tranya FOR EVERYONE!".

Thinking about bringing one of these to Smoove's this Saturday for an all day gaming event. We'll be in a basement with no shitters and my intake will not warrant the constant up and down the stairs to the bathroom. Any thoughts from the OO gaming community at large on the effectiveness of such an apparatus?

Have you thought about trying to reintegrate back into normal society after the numerous years you've spent apparently living as a hermit in the woods of Romania? I know potty training seems hard, but it's just like riding a bike...although I'm pretty sure you'd want to wear pants and not lower yourself rapidly onto the latter.

Most events you're dealing with timing, food or mixing a variety of gaming types. Me? I'm trying to figure out how to tastefully suggest that wearing Depends is a better option than using a 5 gallon painter's bucket in a dark corner of my basement.

Nice. Memory Alpha seems like an indirect nod to the planning stage in the new Thunderstone.

Re: OO Boardgamers, what did you play this weekend?
I don't like the Starfleet upgrade. It seems like it will make that opening hand too important, imo. If your opponents get the Leu + Memory Alpha turn 1 while you get don't they get a pretty significant boost for their next turn as well as all other turns since the decks will be small at that point and getting the certain 3exp the 2nd turn woould be huge.

Re: OO Boardgamers, what did you play this weekend?
Update on Mage Knight - apparently Boards&Bits will have more than enough copies come in around May 4. I imagine CSI will be the same way. I'm keeping the faith.
Because I am a hopeless addict, I also went on down to GameSalute.com and pre-ordered Empires of the Void, which is starting to ship to Kickstarter folks. Hopefully it will be what I had hoped Eclipse would be, an easier, quicker, more accessible, yet still fun Twilight Imperium 3rd. Eclipse was none of those things for me... the thinking about the game was far more interesting than the actual playing.
I have no idea when that Empires of the Void will ship. Hopefully soon.

Re: OO Boardgamers, what did you play this weekend?
I've been following the Mage Knight phenomenon on and off for a while now. Did they just re-print whatever version was released in December of last year or is there an update planned for the rules to address any errata, etc...? If I'm to believe BGG, the 12/2011 edition was the 1st and the April 2012 edition is now the 2nd. What's the difference?
I guess I'm a bit gun shy now with newer-ish games that have so many elements. I'd previously been so excited about Mansions of Madness but the misprinted cards, rule changes, etc... really made me wish I'd waited for a newer edition.

The second edition just has three reworded cards and a new edition of the rules that simply cleans up wording and adds an index.

Re: OO Boardgamers, what did you play this weekend?
I believe the 2nd printing corrected some typos and errors. I don't know if there have been any rules alterations, though. As far as I know they're the exact same game.
The one thing I don't like about my copy (2nd printing), and I'll admit this is really picking the nit, is that several of the counters are mismatched in the way they were punched. They printed two-sided counter sheets, where one side is the generic logo and the other side has the details you need during the game. You're supposed to make several stacks of these counters so you can grab the topmost one. The problem is that when you punch thick cardboard counters, one side of the "edge" is sort of rounded, and one side is sharper. In every other game these are always consistent, so you can make a stack of 15 face-down counters just by feel, maybe the rounded side of the edge is always down, or whatever. In this case, half were punched one way and half were punched the other way, so I can't do it by feel. I have to go through the entire stack and look at each one to make sure it's face up or face down.
I have never felt so internet-dorky as I just did writing that paragraph, but I guess it's noteworthy that I noticed this right away. There are a lot of counters, and you make a lot of stacks. However, everything else has been top-notch, and I haven't noticed any errors or typos yet.

Honestly, I don't know what the deal is with Wizkids on MK. It strikes me that this whole debacle with print runs may just be a marketing ploy. Keep demand high and build a rabid fan base willing to sell their grandmothers for a copy.

Re: OO Boardgamers, what did you play this weekend?
I'm guessing it's not a cheap game to make (just looking at all the parts) so by keeping the initial print run small they probably figured it was a way to minimize risk. Now that they've seen how well it's been received, I have no doubts they're slowly dosing copies back out to keep interest high. But in the words of my buddy Ian -- I am a patient boy, I wait. At least, I think he is always saying that. Maybe he's a pastry chef. I dunno.

LMK, what they tell you, LordMortis. I think they will fulfill the orders within a week. The funny thing is that I cancelled a pre-order way back when withy them, because I chickened out that nobody would play MK with me.

No response yet, but I figure most shipping happens late afternoon. So I wouldn't expect a response until tomorrow morning, when they confirm whether or not they will ship today. Now, if I don't have a response by tomorrow afternoon I'll be doubly disappointed because by then the rumors of "second set will by next Wednesday (today)" will be squashed.

You are pretty close. Looks like "early next week" could mean Mon or Tues, meaning shipping Tues or Wed and Fed Ex takes 2 to three days to move stuff right up I75 from Florida to Michigan, stopping in Toledo. So I'm looking probably at next Friday. I guess at least now I have an ETA, even if I'm not thrilled with it. I also get to believe that I am earmarked and not going to screwed with "Sorry we made you wait. We can't fill your order."CSI wrote:Hi Mike,
