What are some recent Diablo clones?

Post by Little Raven »

I know about Champions of Norath, but that's just for Playstation. Have any good action RPGs come around lately?

Some people like Sacred, though I (and some others, it seems) thought it was pretty boring.

Dungeon Siege 2 is supposed to come out sometime soon, I think.

Not for the PC.

edit: There haven't been any good diablo clones for the PC. Dungeon Siege 2 is a PC game.

Heretic Kingdoms just came out a couple of days ago in the states, and is action/RPG similar to Diablo.

Some have said Harbinger - a sci-fi themed game - is a Diablo in space clone.

What the hell did that mean? Beats me.

Sacred has been patched quite heavily and also has a free "expansion", which improves it a lot from the original release. Gameplay is more built around obtaining new skills/building combos and ph4t l33t rather than the rather pathetic story.

Heretic Kingdoms has a story and quests the equal of any "real" RPG, although it lacks the super-duper combo attacks and skill trees of typical action RPGs, using a rather unique "Attunements" system instead.

Sacred is closer to Diablo IMO for straight up action but HK has a great story and is closer to a tradtional RPG in that sense.

Harbinger was indeed Diablo in a sci-fi setting, only really really boring and (mercifully) short.

Some Diablo clones, not necessarily recent or good:

Sacred
Harbinger
Cybermercs
Dungeon Siege
Darkstone
Divine divinity/Beyond divinity
Throne of Darkness

I really enjoyed Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, but it's also console only (multiple consoles, not just Playstation) and not exactly "recent". Not much Baldur's Gate, lots of Diablo :). I still haven't played #2.

If you don't mind outdated graphics and going back in time, Diablo was actually a clone of this style game. :D

He's asking about recent ones and Prince of Qin came out in 2002.
