I miss playing Magic: The Gathering with friends. If I move to a new town I have my eye on, the giant comic shop there has a basement where they have tournaments but I just don't think I can bring myself to randomly join an event. Besides, I'd only want to play with my old cards and not buy new ones. I would someday like to finish off all of my sets, though.

$6000 a year maintain software licensing for what is essentially a 16 bit application developed over 20 years ago. Company was sold first to (then) SBC and then to IBM. Haven't called for support in years. I just found out they disconnected their toll free support number. I had to call a general IBM dispatch number. Waiting for a technician to call back for over two hours and suspect I won't get a phone call today. I'm going to ask what it is I'm paying support for when I do get a call.

Re: Random randomness
Tru dat! I was going through the photos with my oldest last night when he dropped the car off. There are some real desktop wallpapers, even with the cheap camera. That is part of a river that drops into a faultline, travels for miles underground and then resurges out of the side of a mountain. It was discovered to be a continuous river when there was a accident at a brewery and a huge amount of absinthe was dumped into the river. Downstream, the water turned white and smelled of anise. A guy dipped his cup into the river and realised that it was diluted absinthe.
Unfortunately, I seem to be doing nothing but sleeping since I got home.

How effing ridiculous is it that you need a former roommate to sign a removal form for you to renew my effing lease?!? The term of the paperwork he signed is expired. I've asked for a renewal, he's no longer a resident, and I'm asking to sign a new 1-yr lease. I fail to see how he has any impact on this paperwork.
And because the month to month rent is higher than the lease I've requested, you put a late notice on my door?!? What sort of cluster are you people running here?
I swear, I am glad that this is the last lease I'll be signing with you. As much as I like the complex, dealing with the office staff is like pulling teeth.

Had a fun party on the patio last night. Amazed at how trashed the kitchen got (figured of I posted, it would give me five more minutes of not cleaning up).
"We" decided with the sale of the house, we would put a clause in the closing contract stating we could stop by now and then to party on the patio! Our friends are so ingenious!

Malibu Speedzone is closer to me, but I don't think their speeds get that high on the karts. The 15-20 minute clinic covers everything from line choice, throttle and brake technique, and turn-in points to passing tips and how to look for the fastest way around the track. The clinic usually helps drivers shave 2-3 seconds off their lap times.

I haven't been to speedzone is about 10 years but at the time their "fast" karts were on a no passing track. The best fun to be had there was the slick track which was more or less the go kart version of a very small drifting course. Also speedzone is outside. Nature (and exhaust fumes) is bad for me.Isgrimnur wrote:Pole Position Raceway? Q: Why haven't I updated the standards on the schoolwide tests?
A: Because when I told you three months ago that I needed you to change my permissions so that I could do it you never did. Nor did you respond to my subsequent email requests that you do so. Dickhead.
Alright, maybe I didn't say that last word. I only wish I had.

Some doctors can tell when their "orders" are not being followed but don't make it obvious (as in eye rolls or the like). It's good of you to go because a second set of ears is always helpful. My Dad does the same thing. He goes ~6 months or so to the heart doctor for blood work and a basic checkup. Three days (a week?) before the blood test he changes his diet drastically, cutting out all the bad foods he's not supposed to be eating and loading up on vegetables and salad instead. And the tests always come back great and the doctor congratulates him, at which point he comes home and brags about how he "fooled" them. I swear, the older he gets the more he's turning into a child.

My old man spent three days in the hospital with heart problems recently. He vowed he was going to eat better and quit drinking four to six cans of coke a day. That lasted for a week or two and then he decided he was miserable and he's back to where he was. It's tough. I want him to be healthy. I'm terrified for him. But happiness. If you lifestyle makes you happy and taking it away makes you miserable, what do you do?

Re: Random randomness
My understanding from having people in the hospital then released is it depends on the care and the responsibility the released person has. An example of a hospital release person is my father in law, who is well behaved for a few weeks then tends to go back to his unhealthy ways. An example of responsibility is my mother, who has never been in the hospital BUT controls many health issues with monitoring her food and exercise regiment because many depend on her care. I've said to my father many times, "Be good to her cause if she goes down..." He joked and said, "So you're telling me, I should go first?"
I also believe that attitudes are reflective of the generation too. My parents and in laws have more defined roles according to the sexes than my husband and I do. I strongly believe that every one should be accountable for their own actions with acute awareness of the how their actions effect and affect others. Example, I need to drop at least 20lbs. It's not up to my husband to make this happen. Sure it would be nice to have him make more of an effort to get me moving more BUT it is up to me to exercise more and regulate my eating.

Man writing book on kindness shot in Montana
I hope the gunman at least had a smile on his face.A West Virginia man who told authorities he was hitchhiking across the country and writing a memoir about kindness was injured in a seemingly random drive-by shooting near Montana’s booming Bakken oil patch.
Ray Dolin, 39, was shot in the arm as he approached a pickup Saturday evening, thinking the driver was offering him a ride, said Valley County Sheriff Glen Meier.

I had this dream where I ended up in the zombie apocalypse with MHS, TheMeal, ChrisGrenard, Kayla, and Remus West.
We were in a huge hotel (one of those with glass elevators, a pool in the lobby, and a restaurant on the penthouse level).
I was very sad to discover RW and myself were scripted as the comic relief.

I listned to some Dead Kennedys at work which led me to read the wiki entry for Jello Biafra which led me to this 2005 Episode of "This American Life" featuring a story about Jello's 1986 obscenity trial. It includes a recorded conversation between Michael Guarino, the prosecutor in that case, and Jello.

That's so weird, Kayla and I JUST had a conversation at lunch about how we feel pretty confident we'd survive the zombie apocalypse and we were talking about me, her, ChrisGrenard, and TheMeal meeting up with my brother after it happened. We're so screwed in the big cities. The area I live in is nestled up to the hills, so that might provide us with some relief with the topography possibly providing us with some shelter. I'll make anyone approach us use interpretive dance to prove they are not zombies.
