Amazon has the new netrunner for $32 with free shipping. I now have to decide if I want to do that, or put in a $100 order from CSI for Netrunner, Flash Point, and Mice and Mystics. Decisions...

Trickier since I'm now living with the fiancée, and such silly purchases are harder to hide.

I don't know the other games but flash point ought to be very gf friendly. It's also a very good game.

I just got my firemen figures and urban structures expansion with the structural engineer role card. I love flash point and can't wait to give these new maps a try.

May be a moot point. CSI apparently isn't taking orders for Netrunner. I guess I could wait until they are. Future wife basically said it was okay.

Edit: They turned Netrunner orders back on, and I've got an order in. Now I just have to wait for all three to come back in stock.

I got mine a couple of weeks ago and have played a few games on the Urban Structures map. One side is a high-rise building with elevators, and new rules for how the firefighters move in and out of the building. You have to either use the elevators to go down to the lobby (apparently there are no "Use stairs in case of fire" signs in this building) or you can exit via a destroyed wall on the exterior of the building if there is a fire engine on that side, so you use the ladder. It definitely changes some dynamics. So far we're winless on that map, it's hard.

I'm on vacation with some friends (my wife and another couple) in the Outer Banks. We brought a bunch of games and have been getting some in here and there:

1) HansA TeutonicA - Never played it before. We had a lot of fun with it.

2) Settlers of Catan - A classic. Everyone had a great time with it.

3) Twilight Struggle - The guys only here. We both never played it before and played 3 games. I was the US all three times and lost the first game in the 3rd turn. And won the next two.

4) Labyrinth - Again, guys only. We got in one game. I was the US. We played a single deck game and I had a pretty convincing win. We are going to get a second game in because we both know the system better now.

On deck: Puerto Rico, carcassonne, Agricola, Andean Abyss (I'll be surprised if this gets played), Smallworld and Smallworld Realms, Dominion.

Hansa is one of my favorites, and I know a lot of people who love it and others who hate it, but I will say I'll only play with the expansion map.

Cracked open Last Night on Earth and played a couple games with the gf. We swapped sides, but the heroes won easily. Both times, we just holed up in the police station and played whack a zombie. The starting scenario is just too easy for the heroes.

I couldn't find a rule that prevents a hero searching when a zombie is in the hero's space. Did I miss it, or is it actually not there?

Anyway, we'll bust out the advanced stuff next time around for a little more flavor.

Not sure I'm a fan of that. But then again, one space is 1/4 of a basketball gym, so I suppose I can see the logic.

If they want to search rather than run away that is their choice. Simply means they have to fight the Zombie that turn as well.

I can see that. But something in me still recoils at the thought of having a zombie in close proximity while you riffle through the detritus under the bleachers.

I looked at it more as desparately scanning the room trying to find something useful to bash the zombie in the head before it bites you.

This is what I picture it as as well. I envision the player desperately chucking things at the zombie then possibly stumbling upon something they don't want to throw and being forced to grapple with the thing because they were not with it enough to run away.

and Zombiecide is on the "to play" list for Octocon - assuming it is available to play there.

Are you still waiting for your work PC to be reimaged? I am off all next week with nothing to do 8-5, but outside working hours I still have all my usual father and husband duties. I could probably sneak away for an evening, but that would need to be coordinated with the wife. We'd also have to find someplace to meet up that is mutually inconvenient, like Fuddrucker's?

Escape from the Aliens in Outer Space and Tsuro are on a fedex vehicle for delivery as we speak. Have you played Flash Point yet?

We should really work on this.

The turnaround on my laptop was quick, so I'm back up and running.

Evening-wise, there's a Tuesday game night at Ziggy's Tavern at the NE corner of Campbell and N Plano Road in Richardson, which I frequent. The DGM also does Thursday nights at their 930 West Parker Road location for a $5 cover. I haven't done the Thursday nights there, but the location is pretty sweet for gaming.

Last night was the test run with Heroclix Papertown. Other than dealing with trying to get a handle around the ruleset (again), I'm nearly certain the consensus was that having a 3D city to run around in is big fun. Unfortunately I think the "magic" of Heroclix is playing characters you're invested in. We just have mostly random C and D list figures that were picked up on the cheap from buying in lots. However if you're really into people like Nitro, Element Woman or Invisible Kid then this would probably be a blast. Since the teams were mostly random and we weren't playing with the complete set of rules (like traits offered by having actual teams - Avengers, Watchmen, etc...) it's no surprise that for the most part the higher point characters dominated. While Wonderman went to task on Robot Hulk, the Wasp was no match for Dr. Manhattan.

After that we switched over to Wings of Glory using a custom 3.5' x 6' map, Unlike our last game with the smallest map size possible, this definitely worked out better. However, even with four players, we still only managed to get in two games because they were taking rather long. I don't know if it was the larger map or incredibly lucky draws from the damage pools, but they weren't super quick like the last time we played. Still fun though and it's a great game. Our biggest problem (I think) is that it would seem whatever player draws the Kawasaki Ki-61-I-KAId seems to absolutely crush the competition (all stock planes for the box set + early model Spitfire).

And that was the night. There's never enough time...

Cracked open and played a game of Nightfall: Martial Law in standalone with the gf last night. Will take some time and more plays to get a good feel for the cards and attendance strategies. It would be easy to power through it if they would release the expansion for the iOS app.

This weekend I picked up the Android:Netrunner remake. It's as good as I remember, can't wait to play it again, possibly tomorrow.

Played a few games of Tsuro with my 6 yr old son over the weekend. He's able to understand the gameplay, if not the strategy. Interesting game, but I'm not sure it will have legs for me. I may try it on the wife and she what she thinks.

I have a copy of this ordered from CSI, but shipment is waiting on Flash Point and Mice & Mystics to come in stock, which probably won't be until mid-late October.

Of course, yesterday Amazon put this in my gold box, and I could've gotten it in two days for the same price as as CSI. Blarg.

I'll second this. Tsuro is an alright game with 2 players but it is a ton of fun with 4.

I guess I didn't realize it was a filler game. It plays super fast. With 4 players you wouldn't get more than a handful of turns. Fine, but not what I was expecting.

Hanabi is getting a reprint.

My love for this game knows no bounds. I highly suggest anyone who likes cooperative games pick this up. It's good with 2 and 3, and great with 4 or 5.

And the new version is an improvement over both old editions:
