Formula D League Race 1: Hockenheim

Post by Isgrimnur »

Welcome to a bright, sunny day here in Hockenheim for the first race of the Formula D Racing League. It's a beautiful day, not a cloud in the sky, so we're expecting some wide open, precision racing. (Weather roll is 16, no possibility of change).

For the seeding today, the teams will be be selecting their opening grids in a sort of snake draft fashion. Starting grids will be 1-6, 2-5, and 3-4. Team selection order will be in order of White, Yellow, Blue. Driver position between the slots is at the team's discretion for this first race.

I need your car builds and tire selection. Hard tired are what we ran last time. Soft tires will let you take an additional one space per movement, but overshooting is a 2-point penalty. Rain tires will stay on the truck. Remember that you each have one nitrous boost, giving you (current gear) spaces at added to your roll. This is a once-per-race option.

hentzau, I will let you make our team's selection on starting grid and order.

2 on the last number for shocks for a 20 point build, but otherwise correct.

And a reminder: If you take soft tires, you must pit after one lap to maintain the one-space bonus on lap 2.

You pick the pairing and order for Team White.

Right, but which team chooses first? I guess I'm just confused.

Ah. Ok, following my naturally moderate bent, let's take the 3/4 slot, with White 1 in 3 and white 2 in 4.

Oh, and I'm going to go with stock build and tires for the first lap, because we can switch out to other tires on the second lap, correct?

bb2112 can have the burden of choice, I think my preference is for the 1/6 slots and am happy taking the back of the pack position. bb can decide if he agrees and make the official call.

Isg, add the ?race=1 to your URL as well. I've completed the ability to maintain history of movement and multiple races in the database. The ability to view anything but the latest state is a work in progress however. It's mostly to protect us from bad code and browser Back buttons.

Hmmm... My last post didn't take.

Anyway, I would prefer the 2/5 slot. Coop can take the 5 position.

Standard build, normal tires please.

What he said.

Also, assuming it still works you can see the ability to view movement history on the public URL. Of course if Isgrimnur blows it and saves something wrong or adjusts things we'll know. You will see the state of things every time he hits save.

Question: the rules summary in the Singapore Formula D thread says that you can use up to three brake points to reduce your movement by up to three. Then, if you want to reduce your movement by more than three, you can use up to three tire points. (1) When you use the tire points to brake more than 3, do you still use brake points as well? Like, if you stop 4 movement, do you use 3 brakes, 1 tire, or 4 brakes, 1 tire?; (2) If you have soft tires and are braking more than three, are you paying 1 tire point or two? So if you brake 4, is it 3 brakes, 1 tire, or 3 brakes, 2 tire?

1) Yes. You may brake up to six spaces. The first three take 1 Brake WP each, the next three take one Tire WP each. Brake usage is capped at 3, so 4 spaces is 3 brake, 1 tire.

2) The tire rules apply only to overshooting, so you can super-brake and still use only 1 WP each for each space 4-6.

Shock 1

Soft tires.

Also, after team discussion, Blue will take the only slots still available. My car will be in front.

I'll be taking a 6/4/3/2/3/2 setup with soft tires.

I believe the board is set. Coop, if you can reset the turn counter to Turn 0/1, we can get everything started.

Turn is set to 0. I am not sure my code is set up to handle Turn 0. I'm still considering enhancements where you can mark a save as a "Turn." Right now every time you save the turn counter increments. I'm also considering gear selection and dice rolling, but that would require logins or something to differentiate players who are using the system and I am trying to avoid that, though I do have the code for it from previous sites.
