Thank God or any other higher power for helping someone develop Time Machines for the computer. Would love to leave a tip in the jar for that genius fo' sure.

What a horrible introduction to the series for me.

To be fair, adolescent power fantasy tripe is way easier to write than absurd existential horror, and every community has got to start somewhere... right?

Maybe allowing me music isn't such a good thing.
Lyric my boss walked in on in my office this morning:
"I don't mean to alarm you or seem out of place
I don't want you on my conscience, I want you on my face."
Man, she has the best of luck when interrupting my work.

Try working in (or closely with) law enforcement for a while and then watching any show that features a cop, a crime, or a firearm.

There's a safe handle you're always supposed to hold it by, which will leave you with the spine of the knife only coming into contact with your hand. You should be able to identify it based it being the one that closes over it. If you hold it by the other side, yeah, you're going to slice bits of yourself off.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

Heh. I would suggest using a trainer (e.g. something like this) rather than practicing with the real deal. Failing that, you can probably tape up the blade until you get the hang of it.dbt1949 wrote:I got a butterfly knife yesterday. Watched a youtube on how to open and close it with one hand.

(Rest assured, I learned the hard way when I first bought a balisong as a teenager; a trainer is definitely the way to go!)

Listen dude, it's just common courtesy to close your goddamn office door when you're conducting a conference call on speakerphone. No need to be a dick about it when I shut it for you.

All the people who have office doors but don't close them so us people who work in a cube have to listen to their speaker phone conversations can go to hell. A lady down the hall from me never picks up the phone. She hits the speakerphone button to start a call which results in a very loud, very annoying dial-tone, followed quickly by the number tones. What's worse is this person is so lazy, she will call someone internally a few offices away.

Work wants me to attend more of things and I wish I had a life of leisure. There's always about a 1 in 20 to 1 in 30 chance of getting cool shit. The problem is my work doesn't go away just because I go away, so I only hit the really important ones about once a year, twice at the most.hentzau wrote:I would totally bail on the rest of this Cisco seminar if I didn't have about a 1 in 25 chance of winning an iPad at the end of it.

I can't F-ing take TV anymore. AMC (??!!) has just given approval for a reality show called Owners Manual:
Firefly was able to air 11 episodes before being cancelled and now we have TV shows about people that read instruction manuals. In each episode, Extreme Makeover Edition‘s Ed Sanders and Hammer Heads‘ Marcus Hunt will face off in a weekly challenge in which they attempt to operate powerful and complex machinery with and without using the manual.

Re: Random randomness
More Fringe ranting, not really related to the show... just my trials in attempting to get into the series.
So I've skipped ahead to Season 5 just to see how things kind of play out - plus that's what's free. I'm bumping along just fine towards the end of the "Bullet that saved the World" episode, and I get to the part where they're all standing around after the antimatter bomb goes off and wipes out a city block.
Walter turns to Peter and says "She's gone, son."
Shockwave Flash agrees and goes all
It was immaculate timing unlike any other app crash I've seen in a long time.
This is why I buy DVD's still.

I'm still trying to figure out if I like it enough to buy it. I can find ~10 Season 1 episodes (a couple that don't work) and 4 Season 5 episodes for free. I'm not a Netflix or other "channel" subscriber and don't have cable - so my options (short of piracy) are pretty limited for evaluating the show.Smoove_B wrote:You really can't skip around with Fringe. It reminds me a lot of the X-Files, but without the dark aspects and lacking the chemistry of Mulder and Scully (it's more like an X-Files/Sliders crossover).

Edit, here's a great writeup on the massive river of precip potentially coming to N. Cali.
