I saw someone driving a crappy mid 90's car with Hawaii plates over the weekend. I'm sure someone can come up with a good reason for this, but I got nothing...
Capitalism tries for a delicate balance: It attempts to work things out so that everyone gets just enough stuff to keep them from getting violent and trying to take other people’s stuff.

This is why I love Montreal. 1.65 million people. 35 murders in 2012. 18 of those are underworld related. 10 were conjugal violence. Leaving 7 murders only that you could call stranger on stranger. There might be a safer place out there but this will do nicely.

I see that as a plus. YMMV.

But if you really want to see it, you can climb Mauna Loa, Mauna Kea or Haleakala. I hear it snows up there over the 9,000 ft mark.

Just make sure there's no one standing behind you.

I think it was Haleakala I was on top of at one point, but it was summer and I couldn't really see the ground to check for snow because there was so damn much fog. We were so impressed we took several pictures of the fog... of course there's no way to tell we were anywhere special.

43% of all murders in Hawaii in 2011 (3 of 7) didn't involve a weapon of any kind. A footnote on the statistic indicates that murders by pushing are in the hand/foot/etc category.

My city is like that. Something around 55 murders last year. Probably 45 of them gang on gang violence. Not belonging to a gang I feel pretty safe.

Our cat is a reverse-mouser. She brings in mice and sets them free to play with them. Invariably one gets away and sets up shop in our residence. Off we go to get mouse traps.

One of my cats does the same thing except that he specializes in Chipmunks which, incidentally, are about 20 times harder to catch than a mouse.

That's probably for the best. The last cat I had was a ferocious mouser (and squirreler, and gopherer, and birder, and lizarder, and pretty much anything else he could sink his teeth into-er). But he would tend to leave a rather nasty pile of intestines and viscera after consuming most of the rest of his prey.

My cat was a champion mouser in his day. He's semi-retired now but still brings down the occasional slow or elderly rodent. I used to find half-mice pretty often. He only ever ate the head end because

Fuck viruses. Fuck bacterial infections. Fuck cold and flu. Fuck coughing so hard you puke. Fuck getting 2 hours of sleep. Fuck, fuck, fuck.

Mrs Skinypupy is as sick right now as I've ever seen her in the 16 years we've been together. The doctors have put her on what medicines they can (she's pregnant with twins) but have basically told her they can't do much and her body's just going to need to recover on its own. Problem is, the babies get what they need (I.e. nutrition, fluids, etc) before she does so it could be a very long recovery.

I'm a little freaked out because she's actually lost 5 lbs over the past week, but neither the OB or our reglular doc seemed overly concerned. We have an ultrasound on Monday...I'll feel a lot better once we get those results.

It's shaping up as an early and severe flu season this year. I know MA has diagnosed thousands of cases already compared to just 20-some at this time last year. I'm glad I got my shot...hope it works.

I can attest for the severe part. I wouldn't wish the flu I had over Christmas on my worst enemy- it was the sickest I'd been in years, I think.

Canada gave us the business in the round-robin portion. I liked our chances for revenge, but never thought it was 5-1 type of revenge. Glad we could take down the gold medal game as well.

Sickest I had been since my 2-week pneumonia bout back in middle school. Protip: don't get the same strain of flu MHS and I had this season. (Also, flu shot fail, though maybe my body-ache symptoms were reduced from MHS's non-flu shot symptoms.)
