Re: [WW] - The Pirates of the Flying Octopi -Night 1
“Where we be off?” Lassr asked as Flying Octopis surged through the waves; the Earl’s fort a receding spot on the horizon.
Remus West who was standing behind the ships wheel replied, “Far away from here!”
“I’ve been giving it some thought and I think I’ve got an idea.” Qantaga said, “What about Port Royal?”
“Why there?” Mr Bubbles asked.
“The treasure is supposedly cursed right but what if we got rid of the treasure.” Qantaga said.
“Nay those be riches there matey. More than I’ve seen in my life.” Lagom stood, glaring at Qantaga.
“No I know what he’s saying,” RMC interjected. “We get rid of the treasure by selling it to buy rum or cigars. Stuff we can trade it for elsewhere. It’s the treasure that’s cursed. Not what goods that it buys.”
“The curse will be gone then! It wont be able to strike us then.” Holman interjected then added “We saw the black stuff. We get rid of the treasure we are safe!”
A shout of agreement came from the crew. A way to avoid the curse had been found. So the ship sailed to Port Royal, through a long night. The longest it seemed many had faced. The crew was bored, sullen and tempers were short due to the worry of the curse. The night stretched even longer.
“When will this night end! Has to be something to do here. The sooner we get to Port Royal, I swear….”Scoop complained kicking at the floor.
An idea all of sudden struck BB2112, “Hey let’s gamble with the treasure. When will we see such gold again mateys?”
Outlooks improved quickly as a deck of cards was found and as they gathered around the largest table. El Guapo rushed to be the first seated a mug of ale in hand, “Scoop ya betting your Tiara?”
Scoop glared at him in response as he adjusted the tiara. The long night was quickly forgotten as the gambling session began. Hours passed and soon the dawn was starting to break.
A small pile had gathered before Truicy, he clicked a couple of doubloons together but then reached for Scoop’s tiara and dropped it into the pot. “I’ll raise ya Scoop’s tiara!”
Vorret had been leaning back in his chair but lunged forth “Ten doubloons to call.”
“And I’ll call that with this dagger!” Proner said as he threw a jewel encrusted dagger upon the table.
There were tense moments as cards were revealed. BB2112 was last and he knew he’d won when he threw them down. “Pair of aces! Arrr! I win it all! Hah! Lucky I be” A smile spread on his face as he reached out to claim his winnings. When he touched the dagger it shimmered to life, black smoke trails swirling it to life. It jerked straight up and down it plunged into BB2112 back.
A quick gasp escaped from BB2112 as the smile and his life vanished. BB2112 was dead, the curse capturing its next victim. Who would be next?

I didn't believe a wolf was killing theohall to silence him or something (since what could he know on day one anyway?). But I'd started wondering if it weren't some kind of staged performance of the kind of move a wolf probably wouldn't make. It seemed contrived somehow.

Princess Pirate Scoop elegantly paces around ship's cabin his feet barely touching the deck as if floating on air.
It seems this curse is more interested in doing away with bumbling voters than thoughtful Pirate Princesses. Odd that it is, We find it highly amusing. One wonders if a side effect of this curse is the drastic lowering of IQ.
With the deaths of Kinetickid, Theohall, and BB2112, We thinks the suspect pool has been vastly reduced.
I suspect that by days end (or sooner) We will identify a servant to this vile curse.
Suddenly, Princess Pirate Scoop walks over to where tru1cy is silently eye pr0ner and stamps on his foot with his high heels causing tru1cy to gasp in pain
And We were not amused by you betting our Tiara!

I feel like there is something to be said about yesterday, but I haven't put much thought into it yet. Off the cuff, bb2112's death is intruiging and there is something about the theohall train that feels odd.
Keep in mind, it's wolf tradition to, when possible, keep a few wolves on a train and a few off it. I've been in situations as a wolf where this rule is broken though. Especially with eager newbie wolves.
I'll get back to this.

After his hasty theo kill vote I was sure BB was a wolf so his death was a big surprise. Now I'm left wondering, though I still have the same opinion on some of the move made in day one....

It's entirely possible that the wolves are trying to make us focus on your (Vorret, Holman, bb2112) involvement in that debacle, getting us to lynch you guys.Vorret wrote:After his hasty theo kill vote I was sure BB was a wolf so his death was a big surprise. Another option is that bb2112 was on to something, or someone (RMC was it?).
I'd like people to chime in on this. Do we go after:
1. The vote-happy newbies who pushed theohall over?
2. The sly cats who started/boosted the train (Remus, myself, Qantaga, RMC, pr0ner)?
3. The guys on the sidelines?
4. Other?

As a relative noobie, I'd like to hear how Day One could have gone better for us. I jumped on the Theohall vote because I didn't see how we would know anything at all until after the first night.
Is there really a chance that a wolf will make a mistake on day one? If so, what kind of mistake would it be? Since there aren't any patterns of past killing to go on and there's no seer info, what can come out before the first lynching?
I guess I'm looking for tips on gameplay here. What should we have done differently? (My choices so far have been based on the blurriest intuition. Anything has to be better than that.)

While I love that you called me Sly I actually voted for Theohall, because he focused on me, and once he does that he will keep voting for me until one us us is dead. BB was acting like a normal BB this game which is too throw a few accusations out and see who would bite on them. <shrug>
I will have to read over BB's posts to see if I see anything...
And El Guapo always seems to be non-committal about these things... He's a pirate lawyer.

Well, what I was asking was, HOW could we have done better at killing a wolf? On day one, how do we bag one? Often, you get wolves who sneak around the edges, trying to seem like they're participating while not actually adding anything of substance nor committing to a vote.Holman wrote:Committed (or not) to what?Lagom Lite wrote:Actually, reading through the thread

Generally, Day 1 is a crapshoot unless the village is very lucky. It's a starting point for discussions. (e.g. "since we know theohall was innocent that means those who voted for him are guilty", "no they're not", "yes they are and sos' yer mom", etc etc)Holman wrote:Well, what I was asking was, HOW could we have done better at killing a wolf? On day one, how do we bag one? It's not a weird question but a genuinely ignorant one.

BB's game:
He killed Theo with no waiting, which is what wolves like to see. Not sure why they would kill BB off, unless he was on somewhat of a good track.
Theo thinks, RW, BB and myself were wolves. So we can prove that BB was not a wolf (duh). That leaves myself and RW as the common names in the thread. <shrug> I am not a wolf...And it seems like there were better targets for wolves to not give us any information.
Pr0ner springs to mind as a good vote today.
Well not sure if the above will help anyone see a pattern. But I hope it does.

bb2112 wrote:So Theo goes after Scoop for the slip, then sides with him. RMC acts helpful, but really deactivates a potential trap. RMC votes Theo, but he is always wrong as a villager. If RMC is a wolf, would he vote for another wolf day one? Maybe. I'm thinking this all day one huey. However, if we don't act on it, it could be a game long distraction.
The one thing I do keep coming back to though, is Theo's taking the easy way. He jumped on Scoop when it looked like the wind was blowing that way, then when the wind started blowing RMC's way, he was quick to jump on that train.

That's my wolf guesses right now.
Lassr explained RW.
Scoop explained RMC.
bb2112 seemed to be building a straw man argument against me claiming I was just "blowing with the wind" when no one other than Scoop had really said anything significant about RMC and I chose to agree with Scoop.

I find it interesting that both Lagom (a very experienced player) and RMC (an experienced player) don't mention the most likely reason for bb's death.
Wouldn' it go something like this:
- bb kills theo without waiting to hear if theo had something to say.
- Wolves gamble that bb is Seer who knew theo's death wouldn't hurt the village (even if theo is Shooter, the shot doesn't always help the village anyway) and that bb was happy to get to night and get his first scan.
- With little else to go on, wolves target bb as possible Seer.

Really Q? The wolves thought that BB was the seer, and that is why he lynched someone quickly? That is a little bit of a stretch, don't you think?Qantaga wrote:Lagom Lite wrote: It's entirely possible that the wolves are trying to make us focus on your (Vorret, Holman, bb2112) involvement in that debacle, getting us to lynch you guys.

And I did not mention the 'most likely reason for BB's death', because I didn't think of that as any possible logical reason for it to be the likely reason. <shrug> But I guess it could be.
But thanks for calling me an experienced player. I still suck, but I guess I have played in enough of these to be experienced.

And all that stuff I posted from BB, was kind of my point. BB didn't really say anything that struck me as oh wow, he knew who a wolf was.
Q seems to think BB was tipping his hand at being the seer. But I don't see that, but then it has been established that I am as thick as a brick sometimes.

This seems odd, unless Scoop either is the weaponsmith or unless he thinks that there's likely to be a quick vote train (though that seems unlikely). Though I suspect the truth is that this is just general scoop-osity.Scoop20906 wrote:Can everyone check in so we will know if a special has something to announce?

Is there really a chance that a wolf will make a mistake on day one? If so, what kind of mistake would it be? Since there aren't any patterns of past killing to go on and there's no seer info, what can come out before the first lynching?
I guess I'm looking for tips on gameplay here. What should we have done differently? (My choices so far have been based on the blurriest intuition. Anything has to be better than that.)
I'm going back to my original vote from day one... I shouldn't have changed it and jumped on that damn Theo wagon.
