I'm already doing more cruise planning and daydreaming than actually working...
I saw John Roderick with JoCo in Tulsa in November. That guy is a stud.

I saw him with JoCo on his San Francisco stop earlier this year. They're doing a lot of collaborating recently with the Christmas album and other projects, so I'm really interested in what they have planned for the cruise.

So Umphry's McGee is next week. The price isn't bad $27 after service charges but I hate the venue and I've been having back problems so standing room only isn't a turn on either. Has there been a verdict on these guys. The look like a good live show and I think I've been on a jammish band kick lately.

Which puts me thinking also about seeing MOE the week after but I'm not sure I can warrant $42 to see them on a Thursday.

Since moving from Denver to Maui, my opportunity for concerts have essentially went down the proverbial drain.

Since moving last year I have had the chance to see Michael McDonald, Chicago, Journey and now Carlos Santana is coming.

Mind you I actually like all of those acts and would surely see then, but the premium ticket cost of artist coming here is ridiculous. Couple hundred $$ for Chicago isn't happening.

Guess I had to sacrifice something moving here.

On a cool note, I did meet Mick Fleetwood recently and I swear I saw Dr. Oz yesterday on the beach.

Anyone remotely into metal needs to see both the Devin Townsend Project and GOJIRA on their national tour. Gojira is amazing.
Today I will gladly share my experience and advice, for there are no sweeter words than "I told you so."

I swear, LordMortis makes me feel ancient. I don't think I've heard of more than a handful of the bands he's talked about in this entire thread.

It's another change in sound for them, as every album seems to have been. So I need to adapt to it. I think the only album that really pulled me in hard on first listen was Winter of Mixed Drinks and accessible as it was, it's what I listen to least nowadays.

It's not young youthy bands I listen to. My listening is just very niche and I much prefer small venue shows. I think a 2500 seating capacity venue is about as large of a show as I go to and I'm so spoiled by small venue performances that 2500 feels too big and impersonal. I typically do shows that bring out about 300 to 1200 people from a metropolitan commuting area of about 3,000,0000.

Edit:

The lyrics are coming through more and more after a couple of listens in and his consistent gift for language never fails to blow me away.

I saw Jeff Mangum over the weekend. The show was decent in that he played well and his voice sounded great, but it was one of the least energetic concerts I've ever seen. Just him and a guitar sitting in a chair. That would be fine in an intimate setting, but we were in a 4,000 person venue. In other news, he looked completely insane. If I saw him walking down the street, I'm pretty sure I would cross over to the other side....

Song "Holy" immediately appealed to me.
wot?

To be fair, adolescent power fantasy tripe is way easier to write than absurd existential horror, and every community has got to start somewhere... right?

Unless one loses a precious thing, he will never know its true value. A little light finally scratches the darkness; it lets the exhausted one face his shattered dream and realize his path cannot be walked. Can man live happily without embracing his wounded heart?

It's been on repeat at work for two days now. I'm used to the lyrics sticking out more and the music sounding less "traditional" for lack of a better word. On the previously three albums, the music was almost a frame for the lyrics, designed to be a setting for the picture Hutchinson was painting and the frames changes with the change in mood on the albums. On this one the music is.... um... music... (I have no idea how to describe musical things) I'm only now just beginning to understand some of the lyrics.

MUSE last night.

What a great show and what a production. The sound was loud but among the clearest I've experienced at an arena show. The stage was spare but rigged with lights seemingly everywhere.

Over the band was an assembly of 5 video screens that moved independently - at one point they lowered to the stage covering the band completely.

Oh, and fricken lasers, too:

3:01 - Presale sold out. FFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU....

The +Merch package is still available, but I don't need two t-shirts, especially white ones. And the tickets would be GA.

No thanks, I'll wait for the balcony seats to go on sale Friday morning.

And for the general sale, no balcony seats were available. I'm not paying over $100 to stand for three hours to see a concert, I don't care who you are.

Assuming that we are talking about rock and roll, if your seat is behind mine, then you will be standing for three hours or you won't see the show. I don't sit at rock concerts, I don't care who you are. :tjg:

Sorry, but it had to be said. My pet peeve is people who go to rock concerts, sit, then get mad that others around them won't sit.

You're conversion is almost complete. Once you start supporting small artists and small venues, you really wonder what the attraction to most stadium shows is. (The answer is all in production. I'll still do one or two large shows a year if the production strikes me. Roger Waters revisiting The Wall was worth $160 on my budget, IMO and that was the last large venue high price show I saw.)

I'm sure by now all of the $20 lawn seats are gone of oM&M but it doesn't matter. I had not takers and I'm not making the hour and forty five minute one way commute on a Tuesday by myself. Too bad. Because I'd imagine that's as intimate and inexpensive as it's going to get. For that matter, how much of a tradition do Icelandic bands make of touring the US?

It's Of Monsters & Men. It's hardly "rock & roll". I've gotten balcony seats at the HoB for Flogging Molly and The Pogues and never had an issue sitting through the show, nor with people around me standing. The GA area is full of young-uns that are content to mash about as they see fit. I've never been one of those types.

Last night's Turisas show gave me a new entry in my personal Top 3 concerts I've ever seen. It redefined "epic". Warlord is one of the best frontmen I've ever seen...he had the crowd eating out of his palm the entire show. An absolutely incredible time.

Stolen Babies tore the roof off as the opener as well. I'm in love with Dominique Persi.

I've seen Jay Z a few times, so this is more about Justin Timberlake as he doesn't tour very often.

Ticket prices are going to be crazy, but I feel comfortable with the price I'm about to pay.

Going to see Yes at the Fox in Detroit. The cool thing about this one is that they are doing 3 albums in their entirety. The Yes Album, Close to the Edge and Going For The One.

Picket up my Ra Ra Riot ticket for tomorrow night and saw this:

http://www.ticketweb.com/t3/sale/SaleEv ... l=majestic" target="_blank

I wonder how much tickets will be. He sold out a venue 6 times the Magic Stick's size not that long ago for $35 tickets. He's a total diva, but a full night of Bauhaus for only a few hundred people? I'm totally in, unless ticket prices are insane.

Lindsy Stirling sold out and I have vowed I will never see another sold out show at the Crofoot after Adam Ant.
Frightened Rabbit is the 30th.

SuperSuckers just announced and they're playing a club that holds maybe 150 max, so I need to get up off my duff and get a ticket to that ahead of time as well... I never buy tickets ahead of time. <harumph> I've ended up bombing out too many shows for one reason or another or worse, made show going into a chore because I got tickets ahead of time but didn't really want to go DoS.

I haven't done any shows since Clutch, I don't think, because my back basically said "fuck you" all night long then and it's gotten worse since then, so tomorrow will be an interesting test. At least the Blind Pig have a few tables and chairs so I can go sit if I need to. I'm debating whether or not to try and wear a back brace just to make sure I can stand for several hours. How sad.

Smalls in Hamtramk. June 14th. $13.

Be warned the capacity is 200. (I just looked it up) I need to talk to be people and get organized soon because I assume they will play to a larger crowd than that. Cha Cha Cha
