Didn't a "major" release debut at $60 a few years back? I seem to recall it was Warcraft 3, but I never buy RTS so my memory could be fuzzy.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein. I remember I was working at EB at the time wondering why it was so much, one of my co-workers said it was because there were so many mouths to feed.

unfortunatly for all of us the price on games is going to rise no matter what just like everything else. All we can do is say "is this game good enough to drop $x on?" if yes then get it if not wait and see. I normaly wait until a while after games are released to get them but i have had a couple that got my attention and i bought them at or near relase date. Most of the time i regret it just because i don't have the time to play as much as i would like. My 3 most played games now are UT2k4, C&C Generals 0 hour, and the only preorder i did Guild Wars. Most games i get bord with playing only single player so me and my roomate play great co-op games and head to head. Just got to get him to get his copy of GW so we can pwn some mob's and other people if neccisary.

How many games does the average person buy a year? Far less than the average person on this forum, I'm sure. When you only buy a few games a year, the impact is much less. Spending an extra $50 or so on games a year isn't a huge deal.

Honestly, game companies could start charging $100 for games and it wouldn't matter to me. I'd just wait until it reached an acceptable price before purchasing it. As long as games continue to drop in value immediately upon release, and as long as eBay is around, game companies will not see this magical increase in revenue; they'd only strenghten second hand demand.

Amen to that. That could charge eleventy-thousand dollars a game and I'd still wait for $19.95.

My price elasticity of demand is very high PEoD = (% Change in Quantity Demanded)/(% Change in Price) and I would simply not buy.

However, as long as they sold one 2 gazillion dollar game they'd be in the black!
