I seem to only get half the needed cards from a game...like I lack Maya, Jack, and Zero but have the rest. Someone the other day left me a msg asking how I got so many badges. Mine are mostly from being there so long..think this is my 9th year and from playing a lot of games and participating in sales.

You only get so many free drops per game (roughly half). If you go to the badges page it will tell you how many card drops you get per game. The rest you need to trade for or buy from the market. Technically, once you have all the free drops for a game you could get a booster pack to drop which contains more cards, but I have about a dozen games that I am eligible for booster pack drops and I have not seen one in three weeks

I just got a Mystery (Trading Card) (This card is very mysterious. Very, very mysterious. The kind of mysterious card you might want to hold on to.). Too lazy to search for info on it :)

I might be persuaded to go in on a 4-pack for Sanctum 2 while it would come to $5.62 each for Steam keys from Gamefly. But I can't decide. Any interest? it looks like it would drop about $2.50 in cards.

Well if it's just the two of us, I'll wait until the real sale and see what happens.

I got that as well after crafting the Borderlands 2 claptrap badge. It was well worth the 14 cents for the BL2 profile background.

Got a Jagged Alliance booster today, which is cool because that's only a 5-card badge. But they also sell pretty high. One is in the $0.90 range at the moment. But as I am without mystery card, I might hold on to them and try to craft a badge before the sale. Is that the only time mystery cards have appeared, crafting badges?
JetFred wrote:At the moment, all of the games that I have wot drop cards are now listed in my badges page, whereas before the ones I had gotten all drops from were unlisted unless I played them.
And I also realized this isn't actually true, it's only most of the games. Which is weird.

Sold some of my higher value cards to get more lower value cards and crafted a couple of badges, giving me two mystery cards so far. Hopefully they have some value in the sale.

Yeah, I have to think they have something to do with the upcoming sale. I'm a little bummed I crafted so many badges in beta now :-(

Word is there are 10 different mystery cards based on some codes people have been able to unearth. Hopefully you don't have to collect all 10 to get something from them.

Hopefully not, and it makes sense that if they are worth something, there would be a limit. Like if it is % off a game already on sale, they surely would want a limit of 10. I wish I knew whether it was worth crafting more badges right now. I've made $30 off of cards that I didn't use for badges, and I'm assuming the credit is worth more than 10 mystery cards, but I could be wrong.

By the way, Left 4 Dead 2 is about the cheapest cool badge you can craft right now. It'll cost you $2. It is possible that these mystery cards are worth more than $2, but I'm reluctant to gamble.

Thanks for the tip -- you're right, it's definitely cheap. I think TF2 cards are also cheap, but I could be wrong.

Managed to get an FTL booster pack yesterday -- first one since the last week of the beta test for the Trading cards. So they exist, but they don't drop nearly as fast as you might think. Quite honestly, I'd be happy with a booster pack a week.

Right now I'm definitely holding on to everything to wait and see what happens this coming Thursday as I really am hopeful more drops will be handed out...which means there is a good chance at finishing off some of the badges. I probably have another ~$3-5 worth of cards in my inventory, but I'd rather just wait and see what happens.

I'm seeing rumors of System Shock 2 getting trading cards? Good lord.

EDIT: And people are already trying to figure out the mystery cards based on the changing artwork and the id numbers.

Well I decided to try again and I did indeed get a second mystery card. I did Psychonauts because the badge's worth of cards was only about ~$2. I guess that's all the gambling I'll do on what these are worth. I have two and my son has one.

After 3 unique drops, only had to sell a few to get the other 2 Ion Assault cards, giving me another mystery card. I'm going to feel stupid if they aren't really worth much, but it's fun anticipating.

Best guesses are they mystery cards can either be crafted into discount coupons --or-- crafted into a Summer Sale 2013 badge that will also drop random coupons. Considering the only way you can earn them right now is by crafting badges for existing games, it supports my theory that we'll all be getting additional drops for the games you own or purchase.

Here's hoping...

EDIT: I'm also seeing now that Orcs Must Die! 2 is getting trading cards - no ETA.

Someone made a good point that if the mystery cards are used in the sale, people who crafted their badges during beta are actually punished for doing so.

That's true -- unless you're now over level 20 as that (in theory) has increased your chances for random booster pack drops over the last few weeks. Even still, if they just give out more drops for all games, everything will work out.

Ok, looks like the mystery cards are for a 2013 Summer Sale badge. Every $10 you spend gives you another drop, 10 cards needed to complete the set.

You also get cards for every 3 flash sales you vote on.

Or you can just let it sit on the title screen for a few hours.

I will say that I beat Hotline Miami, and with a controller. If I can beat it, anyone can.
