laptop games

Post by Daehawk »

Help me think of some games to stick on my now working laptop. I already have Age of Empires 2 on it and Space Empires 4 gold. I have a mouse plugged into it and have an extra USB port for a joytstick. I was thinking about the Wing Commander games.

Keep in mind Id most likely be playing these games right before bed. Id have the laptop on my chest and the mouse over to my side as I get sleepy :) . Its a old laptop so nothing new. its either a 300mhz or 400mhz ot 600mhz celeron. IBM i-1200...198 megs ram.

I've always wanted a laptop to play text adventures on.
I can't imagine, even at my most inebriated, hearing a bouncer offering me an hour with a stripper for only $1,400 and thinking That sounds like a reasonable idea.-Two Sheds

Wow, that's hardcore. Don't you worry that you'll wake up with the mouse cord wrapped around your neck?

That depends; is he married?

Very good question.

As far as games, I would recommend blade runner if you have not played it.

I think I traded off Blade Runner. Was in that Wookie007 trade that I never got anything back from. Could be wrong.

And if I got the cord wrapped around my neck I most likely would not wake up :) ..hehe When I get sleepy I turn it off and crash. Wife is already asleep. I have headphones.

My officemate plays Far Cry on his laptop. He's got a better gaming experience than I do.

Evergreen's that work on that iron....

Fallout/Fallout2/Torment
X-Com/Jagged Alliance2/Shadow Watch
Smac/Imperialism2/KODP/GalCiv

Depending on your OS/network access Thief or Oasis would work.

Id like to put X-Com on it but like Master of Orion it would'nt work cause its an old dos game and I cant get this funky sound chip to work with those. Thats also why I have'nt put Ultima 7 on it. Man i wanted to play that too lol.

you could try the rebuilt ultima 7 project Exult

haven't tried it, but the urge does get strong sometimes.

i also wanted to point out that i played my last few games on my laptop, including half life 2 and swat 4. looks great, better than the desktop machine. i wouldn't try it with the beast actually on my lap as it needs an insane amount of ventilation and it weighs 10 lbs, but man is it a kickass portable game machine.

Its wierd..I can play Age of Empires 2 fine...well cept for losing sound after a bit.......but Age of Mythology would not even run because it said it did'nt support my video device...how lame. I also tried GalCiv and ugh it was less than 1 frame a second..could'nt get to the exit button hardly it was so choppy.

Warlords 3: Darklords can play with sound off (will need the wincurs option to work on 2k or XP)

Maybe BG 1/2 or planescape
Black Lives definitely Matter Lorini!

Put dosbox on it and you should be able to run xcom without any sound issues.

I thought about dosbox but games can run like crap even on my desktop with it. Figured it would make them unplayable on a laptop.

About 3 years ago I went on vacation and took a Pentium2-300mhz with me and loaded Diablo on it, it ran well. It should do good on your laptop.

Doom and Quake/Quake2 should work good too.

My laptop contains:

Jagged Alliance 2
Titans of Steel
Capitalism II
Gangsters
Sid Meier's Gettysburg
Total Annihilation
Treadmarks
Steel Beasts
Flying Heroes
GP500

(the last four need a gamepad or joystick, though)

Basically, rpg's and strategy games work great on a laptop. If you play turn based strategy games, you can even play with the touchpad.

WC3 runs decently on older laptops. D2:LOD is a great laptop game.

I may have jumped the gun. It is still messing up on me and locking up and failing to boot. Might be heat related. ARGH.

I used to get heat related issues while using my laptop on a bed. Blankies blocking the exhaust ports.

And my usual Game of Choice on my laptop was Rollercoaster Tycoon.
