Rand and Elayne's blood 'relation' is so far distant as to be practice nonexistent. They're essentially incredibly distant cousins.

The Healing of Logain/Siuan/Leane, The birth of the asha'man and the Black Tower, Rand's capture, the battle at Dumai's Wells. Once the 300-page middle section of dreamwalking and Min-on-the-knee ended, good stuff all around.

The ending of Lord of Chaos was one of the greatest reading experiences of my life at the time I read it - and almost ruined the series for me. It was so awesome that when book 7 went back to covering comparatively mundane stuff about Rand & Co., I got very discouraged. It was particularly disheartening because - at that time - everybody (probably including Rigney/Jordan himself) believed that the end of the series would occur within another book or so, making Lord of Chaos practically the climax of the series, rather than right smack in the middle as it turned out to be. On re-read, I wasn't quite as impressed with LoC as I once had been, but neither was I as disappointed with the books that followed.

I'm in the middle of 13 and I'm finding it is flowing well and the story has been pretty good so far. Many of the minor characters seem to have been banished to passing mentions so it has been more straight forward IMO. It is not nearly as convoluted as some of the other books have been at times.

My only real criticism is that the 3 book split rears its head at the beginning of this book as some of the chapters at the beginning of 13 belong somewhere in the last third of book 12. When Jordan did simultaneous events previously he at least generally referenced an external event to keep the timelines straight. Unless I'm missing it that courtesy has been largely omitted which is a little confusing. That discontinuity only lasts about 10 chapters or so and then everything is back in sync so it isn't terrible by any stretch.

After a 20 year ride, I've finally finished the series. Big props to Jordans heirs for getting Sanderson to finish this off. I think he did a fantastic job of picking up where Jordan left off and finished the series in top notch fashion. He did a great job of weaving a lot of peripheral characters into the storyline while keeping his focus on the main characters. There's a few stories I would like to hear but I doubt we will ever get the continuing adventures of Mat Cauthon, anytime soon. So I guess now it's time for the movie rights to get sold. I figure if they start soon the might just get them in before I kick it.

I never thought of Demandred being on the other side of the Waste either. Once the main nations were basically out of the realm of possibility I thought he may have been sitting over in Seanchan building a new power base.

I'm probably going to have to re-read this whole series a couple of more times over the years. I feel like I know the first 6 books or so by heart and have a very strong sense of the events that take place in them. The later books are a bit of a blur, with certain major events standing out in my memory but a lot of the detail being lost, particularly what happens in which book. I'm glad it's finished, though.

Reading Sanderson's Words of Radiance, Book 2 of the Stormlight Archive. I have the same feeling about this series I had when I started Game of Thrones and Wheel of Time. This will be Sanderson's opus.

I have had so many people tell me I need to read Stormlight, but I'm holding out until the series is done. The one advantage of Stormlight over GoT and WoT is that it won't take 20+ years to finish writing...

Opus just means "work". Now if it's his greatest work, that's where "magnum" comes in.

I think Sanderson is planning 10 books. The first two are both a thousand pages and were published 4 years apart. Sure it won't take 20 years.

Also reading Words of Radiance is what has convinced me to finish WoT. I need to see how Sanderson finishes this thing off.

All the man does is write and teach. He keeps his website updated with his progress on various projects. At the moment, it has listed:

Firefight 2nd Draft 100%
Sixth of the Dusk 3rd Draft 100%
Legion: Skin Deep 1st Draft 100%
Rithmatist 2 prewriting 10%

Book 3 of the Stormlight Archive, per Wiki, is scheduled for Spring 2016.

I read the three original Mistborn books (after finishing WoT and wanting to try some more Sanderson without making a big commitment) and only happened to stumble across the related novel (Alloy of Law) at the library. I like both his handling of the Robert Jordan stuff (it takes a certain talent to not just write a novel well, but to do so while writing in the style of another author) and his own stuff, so I'll undoubtedly read more of it. I'm hesitant to enter into any more long, incomplete series at this point, however. Jordan and Martin have pretty well soured me on that, much as I've generally loved their work.

After a drop in my available reading time recently, I finally finished Book 9 a few days ago...was a pretty uneventful addition to the series with the exception of one major scene at the very end, but Jordan was a good enough writer that it for the most part never really felt like a slog to get through. I'll be starting Crossroads of Twilight soon (the remaining supposed low point in the series) and am still enjoying it overall. My original goal was to finish by the end of this year...with life getting in the way of reading a bit more recently, l'll see how it goes...

I've got about 700 pages to go in Book 14. It's been pretty good so far, though. I'm looking forward to putting this series behind me once and for all. It's been a rollercoaster of excitement, love, hate, boredom, and braid tugging all mixed together.

Interesting that I started this post 8 years ago and I'm still not finished with the damn thing.
