Best pirate game - six months later
Ok, the last time pirate games were discussed, Sid Meier's Pirates was the clear frontrunner, but there were concerns regarding its long-term staying power. Meanwhile, the POTC fanbase has been issuing community patches, possibly taking the crown away. So, six months after the release of SM:P, has anything changed regarding the state of pirate gaming?

I voted for Pirates! it's really the kind of game that's both deep and casual so it remains fresh without demanding a big time commitment and I can see myself returning to it again.
Port Royale 2 which I enjoy in some ways more than Pirates! but I just am not going to devote the limited time I have to it and since actions speak louder than words, I couldn't vote for it.
Tropico 2 - not mentioned - I recently traded for from a friend who never even opened it! and it sounds interesting but got no buzz at all. Not any buzz my rusty Intraweb device picked up but then reception's not too good here.
POTC - Man, I've heard mixed opinions (which admittedly is true for most games) but I hope some of you who are now or have played POTC could give us a clue about its current state.

I am guessing you are 12 or so?Kobra wrote:The new Pirates! was about the gayest game released last year.
For motivation and so Jeff V can make me look bad:
2010 Totals: Biking: 65 miles Running: 393 miles
2009 Finals: Biking: 93 miles Running: 158 miles (I know it sucked, but I had a hernia most of the year)

Actually I think even 12 year-olds are moving beyond "gay" as a perjorative.Lee wrote:I am guessing you are 12 or so?Kobra wrote:The new Pirates! was about the gayest game released last year.
I'm sure what Kobra (= the snake? And Pirates is gay?) meant is that Pirates was gay in the happy, joyful sense. Kinda like how he feels at a monster truck show surrounded by all those beefy, sweaty, burly men.

POTC is said to have been greatly improved from the notorious first release with mods that fixed bugs, eliminated CTDs, unlocked quests, added quests, new characters, new items, new locales - well, ok, but what do OOers playing it now say?

See the remake would appeal to you if you played it.
Really, it's just a hell of a game. Clicks on all cylandirs, makes time pass strangely fast, and reminds you that gaming used to be more about gameplay than simulation. Simulation is fine... but sometimes a game can just be plain fun. And the Pirates! remake is exactly that.

apologies in advance for the off-topic post.
see, it seems to me that you're using the term gay to define something that is bad. why? do you think that gay people are bad? surely not, i would hope. yes, i'm aware that many people these days use the term just as you have. it's just a saying, right? what if we interchanged the word gay with nigger? or chink? would you still feel comfortable repeating what is just a popular saying? fact is, the way you have used the term gay is offensive to many people. so do me a favor and stop using it that way. cool?37 actually, and it still is the gayest game i've ever seen.. Pirate Hunter2 or Tropico2 are nice though. But Sid, well, he just sucks.

The point is to actually say why you don't like it. Comments like that might be why you get so much crap around here I am guessing.Kobra wrote:37 actually, and it still is the gayest game i've ever seen.. Pirate Hunter2 or Tropico2 are nice though. Pirates was pretty damn gay. I don't know why you had to dance with the ladies, except for prestige. Those pirate crewmen were hawt!
This year's gayest game, at least so far, is Guild Wars. My goodness, does everybody in that game look gay or is it just me?
I mean, maybe they're metrosexuals, but fuck! Its gayity all around! The monks are probably the least gay looking, while the mesmers are so gay that it was featured in The Advocate! Check out the dance memser's do!
