I gotta say - the storehouse was *vastly* more useful than I was expecting it to be. I should've picked that thing up awhile ago.

Yeah I think Vorret got hammered by the craftsman / captain stuff happening on the other end of the table (with Moliere and me), so by the time captaining got to him the boats were mostly or entirely full. I guess if that starts to take shape you have to either go for a building based strategy, or pick up stuff like a wharf, royal supplier, storehouse, etc.LordMortis wrote:That's what learning curves are for.Moliere wrote:That would be ideal since I learned a few things playing for the first time. In your learning game you get to see things like timing of craftsmanning is muy muy muy importante.

The online mechanics worked great, I thought. I've never played Puerto Rico in person, so I don't know how it compares exactly (I'm sure there are some differences), but this seemed to work totally fine. Thank you for running it, incidentally.Grundbegriff wrote:I'd welcome feedback about any or all of the following (or anything else):

This is also where the storehouse (or warehouse(s) if those wind up being in the game) become super useful. You don't get hammered by bad craftsman / captain timing, and next round you can then captain while everyone else has few or no goods.LordMortis wrote:El Guapo wrote:Yeah I think Vorret got hammered by the craftsman / captain stuff happening on the other end of the table (with Moliere and me), so by the time captaining got to him the boats were mostly or entirely full. That happens to anyone who craftsman with bad timing. It's part of paying attention to who produces what and part of why you don't want to compete with the guy putting good on the boats before you. The best time to craftsman is generally (but no exclusively, you could have other plans in motion) as the governor is about to pass or in the same round a captain has already shipped. Messing up that mojo to your benefit is part of the game (again in an effort to force someone else to help you)
You have to evolve your game. There are great opening moves but the game really depends on adapting to changing dynamics.El Guapo wrote:I didn't really set out with a master plan at any point though, just evolved as things came up.
I've played it once.El Guapo wrote:The online mechanics worked great, I thought. I've never played Puerto Rico in person, so I don't know how it compares exactly (I'm sure there are some differences), but this seemed to work totally fine.

I don't own a copy but maybe I could fake it. I'd likely just run the basic game as that's all I really know and probably would be easiest to track without actually having a physical representation of the game.Grundbegriff wrote:I've played it once.El Guapo wrote:The online mechanics worked great, I thought. If anyone else wants to run one, I'd be happy to play...
Weird that it didn't show up when I've been reading this thread. Too many updates happening, I guess. Thanks for taking the time and effort to run the game. It was a good experience all around.Grundbegriff wrote:You mean something like this?Moliere wrote:Do we get a VP tally or just the inference that El Guapo won with the "moot moot" comment?
Thought that was Morliere's jobEl Guapo wrote:It's too time consuming for anyone to do it, but it'd be interesting to see what the final breakdown was in terms of actions chosen by each person (like, how many times did I pick trader vs. settler vs. mayor, etc.), who chose which action the most, etc. I don't think I chose craftsman even once, for example.
We really need to get an OO intern.
Did you not see the link to the spreadsheet? That includes everything: choices and actions on tab 1, and outcomes on tab 2.El Guapo wrote:It's too time consuming for anyone to do it, but it'd be interesting to see what the final breakdown was in terms of actions chosen by each person (like, how many times did I pick trader vs. settler vs. mayor, etc.), who chose which action the most, etc. I don't think I chose craftsman even once, for example.
