Top 5 games in your backlog

Post by yossar »

It sort of bothers me that there are so many great games and there's not enough time to play them all. What bothers me even more is when I spend money on a great game and never get around to playing it much. So let's see who's the worst in this regard. What games are there that you own, haven't finished (or played much of in unfinishable games), aren't playing currently and don't expect to come back to any time soon, yet would really like to play again. Games you haven't even opened/installed count too.

1. Half-Life 2
2. Morrowind + Expansions
3. Mafia
4. The Suffering
5. Battlefield 1942 (although this one I have the least faith that I'll ever get back to)

And that doesn't even include console games :(

That is my favorite game of ALL time. When it came out, the only hardware accleration for it was 3dfx (glide). I don't remember if there was a 3rd party D3D patch for it or not, but if not, you'd have to play it in software mode.

That game was SO fun, and well ahead of it's time, with fully rotational 3D maps, 3D rolling terrain, a terrific physics engine, destructable environments, and just a blast to play.

My own backlog:

* SW Republic Commandos (started it, liked it, but haven't played in a while)

* Rome Total War (played only a bit. I really want to get into it more)

* Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 (with 1.2 patch. installed, never played)

* Empire Earth 2 (only played the tutorials. I like what I see)

Because that wasn't the question that was asked? I don't have the time nor the inclination to list all of the games I have around that haven't been played, especially since most of them will NEVER be played.

You're right - it asked two questions, and only gave space for one answer.

This isn't exactly a scientific study, and I figured this thread would be a lot more readable if we only listed 5. And most people (ie. me) probably wouldn't want to list out every single game.

These rankings are based on faith in the opinions of other people, since I haven't played the games themselves and don't yet know how much I will like them:

1. Fallout
2. Gothic 2
3. Thief
4. Warcraft III
5. Planescape: Torment

2. Vampire: Bloodlines - quite a ways along and haven't touched it in months
3. Phantom Dust - a ways along and havent' played in weeks
4. Beyond Good and Evil - i was quite a ways along, but then my Xbox was stolen and I haven't restarted it
5. Baldur's Gate 2 - Throne of Bhaal - can't even remember where I was, but I still have the saves

Hmm good thread other than Blackhawk's explosion of length and size comparison :D!

Anyways, for me right now:
Jade Empire (about 1/3 through, stopped cold about 3 weeks ago-need to get back into it)
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory (I really, really like this game, but with the computer problems I had been having [and have still never solved] it got very hard to play this smoothly, so I stopped after Hokkaido. This is a must-finish)
Brothers in Arms (was about 1/5 through when I lost my saves and havent had the heart to do more than the first 4 missions again since)
Panzers Phase 1 (I have liked the 2 missions I played very much-need to play more)
Last is a tie between: Digital Devil Saga (Stopped about 8 hours in for no real reason) and Forza (which I have yet to play once).

I've posted my complete backlog before; I'm not inclined to do it again.

I took the question from yossar to query who had great games that they just can't get to in their backlog? Hence my listing of excellent, older games that I will likely never play. But, then again, I did recently move Anachronox off that list so there's hope for me yet.
