Re: The Art of the Donald Trump Sideshow
Not the whole olive, if that's what you were thinking? Think diced, or maybe sliced. Small bits and pieces. HOWEVER, the "arabe" version (again, in Argentina), DOES have whole green olives, IIRC, but again, so delicious I would eat them anyway, in spite of that nasty little culinary surprise every time I would bite into one. I think they even left the damn pits in. Blech.LordMortis wrote:Olives could be a deal breaker. For reasons I can't explain I love black olive slices. I think I actually like the taste of lye or something. Aside from that, nope. Olives are the of flavor revulsion. They are the flavor of looking at someone getting a limb amputated. They are the flavor a slow Elvis Costello song. They are the flavor putting you hand on an electric stove turned up all the way. If putting a 9 volt battery on your tongue was a flavor, that would be the flavor of green/greek/etc olives.

And thus my "nasty surprise" phrase. You chomp down on that delicious looking and smelling pastry, only to bite right through a sometimes HUGE, juicy green olive. And if you're particularly unlucky, you'll bite the pit.

Trump may not realize it, and he probably doesn't really want it, but he's most likely the favorite candidate of every racist hate group around right now.

I think some of what he says is gibberish even if I agree with his overall sentiment. I was thinking yesterday how Trump is making a mockery of the entire election process. Now this might be good in the long run, as shaking up the status quo can have some positive effects, but in the short term, the world (ok, just some of the world) is looking at America and see that this clown is who they are looking to for leadership. And he really is a clown.tgb wrote:I like the cut of this guy's jib.

Y'know, I was going to say that only Trump's lack of brownshirts is preventing an anti-Hispanic kristallnacht...but I decided nah, don't godwinize. It's not that far-fetched an idea, although I think he's still more within the entertainment category than in threat territory. In another time and another place we would probably view Trump’s rise to prominence along a fascist trajectory similarly to the European movements of the early 20thth century and discuss his every move as a cautionary tale, but as of yet we have not. But we should pay attention when the Daily Stormer, a conservative, Neo-Nazi and white nationalist publication, endorses Trump for president, as it did Tuesday.

Me too. It's the public's reaction (obviously he and his followers don't represent all of America. Yet) that is the most upsetting about this whole thing. It's not like we haven't seen him pull this stunt before, but the fact that he has got the lead (so far) for one party in a 2 party system...Kraken wrote: although I think he's still more within the entertainment category than in threat territory.

No, what it means is that America is already primarily straight and white. While it might be possible to make it a little more whiter with enormous effort and expense, how would you propose to make it straighter?noxiousdog wrote:Does that mean you just defined "American" as straight and white?GreenGoo wrote:I'm not sure if the white and straight people are aware, but America is just about as white and straight as it gets.LawBeefaroni wrote:Depends how you define "great." Telling someone that their reasons for voting for a person aren't valid is like policing flag code violations. At the end of the day, not many people care, and there's even less you can do to affect actual change.

So yes, America is about as white and straight as it gets. If you want to talk percentages, then yeah, it's not pure white, but it might as well be. White outnumbers the next race by 4 to 1. As an ethnicity White outnumbers the next by even more. It's about 2/3rds white, or so. That's a lot of white people in one country.
Good luck making it more white. or less non-white, whichever.

http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/252 ... d-by-trump“Throw out the rulebook when it comes to Trump, that’s not even in the parameters of what we see as unusual,” Murray insisted.
Trump’s dominance of the race has flustered the Republican field, with many of the candidates trying their best to bring him back to earth.
But as the attacks on Trump have intensified, so has his level of support.
Polls released on Tuesday show Trump lapping the field in New Hampshire, where he leads his nearest Republican rival by 24 percentage points. The story is the same in South Carolina, where the latest poll gave him a 15-point edge.
While political scientists and other experts continue to insist Trump will not win the Republican nomination, he’s converted at least one high-profile skeptic.
GOP pollster Frank Luntz had dismissed Trump from the start, and declared after the first presidential debate that his campaign was doomed.
But after convening a focus group on Monday evening, in which Trump supporters showed an unflappable allegiance, Luntz changed his tune.
“This is real. I’m having trouble processing,” he said, according to Time.
“I want to put the Republican leadership behind this mirror and let them see. They need to wake up. They don’t realize how the grassroots have abandoned them,” he added.
Polling experts, including Marist College’s Lee Miringoff, say Trump is weathering political storms that would doom other candidates because his appeal is more about attitude than ideology.
