"Columbia" is a frequent alternative spelling of Colombia, a large country in South America. See also Colombia (disambiguation) for other uses of that spelling.
But I was actually talking about Columbia, Alabama. South America still has way too many escaped Nazis. Plus, Alabama doesn't allow extradition to the United States.

Fine, I will just start writing Mexico as "Maxico". Maybe it will catch on. Maybe "MaxiCo"...looks spiffier somehow.hepcat wrote:"Columbia" is a frequent alternative spelling of Colombia, a large country in South America. See also Colombia (disambiguation) for other uses of that spelling.

"Canuda" also has a nice, weird ring to it. Cunada!

In my defense, I can't really help it that Big Lebowski fans are legion, and took all properly spelled "CARPETPISSER" usernames all over the internet!

He used to game with us on board game nights at my place years ago...but then he just disappeared (as did Snow, another long gone OOer). I saw him on Boardgamegeek.com a while back though and we corresponded over a game we both liked for a couple of posts.

Skinypupy wrote:Trump apparently used "End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" when entering a rally yesterday. REM was none too thrilled about this.
Michael Stipe, the band’s singer, said in a statement to the Daily Beast: “Go f--k yourselves, the lot of you — you sad, attention-grabbing, power-hungry little men. Do not use our music or my voice for your moronic charade of a campaign.”
I never understood why artists get bent out of shape if someone you don't agree with uses your song. You put it out in public, too bad.

Also, just because you release it to the public, I don't see why that means you stop caring about how it's used. I doubt Stevie Wonder would be happy to hear that his songs were being played at KKK rallies.

Re: The Art of the Donald Trump Sideshow
Trump says he bought back Miss Universe stake from NBC:
Donald J. Trump said Friday that he had bought NBC’s stake in the Miss Universe Organization, the group that produces the beauty pageant the network refused to broadcast this summer.
...
Mr. Trump also said on Twitter that he had “settled all lawsuits against them,” referring to NBC, but it was not immediately clear if he had actually ever sued NBC. He had said that he intended to. NBC, the Miss Universe Organization and a lawyer for Mr. Trump did not immediately respond to requests for comments.
Previously, Mr. Trump owned 49 percent of the Miss Universe Organization, according to Mr. Trump’s lawsuit against Univision. Now, according to his statement on Twitter, Mr. Trump owns it entirely.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

In related news, Trump announces his own TV network, which the pageant will be a cornerstone of programming.
"I love women, and in their honor, I am pleased to announced the Trump Women's Adoration Television Network. The TWAT Network will have everything a woman could want -- beauty pageants, cooking shows, and childcare talk shows. It's not going to have smart-mouthed women reporters, I'll tell you that...women don't need that sort of thing, nobody does. But craft shows -- you better believe it; we signed Martha F'n Stewart!"

Anger at the audacity of not being asked for approval? Especially when their song is being used by people who bring out personal emotions counter to those the singer intended? Fear that their hit will be tarnished by the politicians?

This reminds me of the Lincoln/Douglas debates. I think it was in the second one that Lincoln established what historians now refer to as "rubber/glue" argument.

Former California governor and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger is the new host of NBC’s The Celebrity Apprentice.

"Look at that face!" Trump said while sitting with a Rolling Stone reporter as Fiorina appeared on TV. "Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president."
"I mean, she's a woman, and I'm not s'posedta say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?" Trump said, according to the magazine.
And yet he's got the support of 33% of Republican women

Re: The Art of the Donald Trump Sideshow
That was awesome. I'm repeatedly impressed by her.
My one concern was addressing the Democratic party as if they were marginalizing women somehow via special interest grouping. I realize it was a free shot at the democrats just because (it's not like her party has a great record on the subject) but it kinda ruined mildly tainted the non-partisan message that women matter.
She doesn't even mention Donald. That was a class act ad.

I'm not a minority and I live in a predominantly white country. I didn't notice the racial makeup of the ad, only that it was empowering to women. I guess to white women.Chaz wrote:To his audience, he still won.LawBeefaroni wrote:Not sure if it's a win for her but it's certainly a loss for Trump. Shrug.
It was an ad about gender equality and the right not be judged on physical appearance like an object, particularly by someone who's winning the Rep nomination race (kinda important. This isn't bob in accounting), not a racial equality ad. Do I think it should have been more inclusive, yes, probably. Do I think it ruins the message, not at all.
