Went to see Collective Soul for the third time. They continue to be a crowd pleaser even though Ed Roland was sick, and he has also started a more countrified side group called the Sweet Tea Project.
I have but one advocate.

Have a feeling all the good seats will be gone by the time the public gets a shot at them.
I randomly looked today and alot of venues still have decent seats available. Pricey, but seats can be had.
I'm considering spending upwards of $200 for a ticket. There are only a handful of acts I'd do that for. And Maiden is one.
Sorry for the late reply, but no, never got them.
Which sucks.

Surprising my wife this Christmas with Garth Brooks tickets for a show in March. She used to listen to him all the time back when we were dating, and when he stopped touring she pretty much gave up on her dream of ever seeing him live. It only made it worse when we'd hear more than one person say that his shows were among the best concerts they'd ever been to.
It's going to be a huge surprise - she doesn't even know he's touring again.

Ahh, I didn't know about this thread or else I'd have posted about seeing Springsteen in Boston on Feb 4th...or gnashing my teeth if it's called off due to a blizzard.

I'm trying to decide if it's really worth $50 each for nosebleed seats to see Lewis Black. Somebody convince me one way or the other.

I might try and force myself out of the house to see Wolfmother at the end of February... We'll see... I've really become a chronic shut in full of health and anxiety problems. I absolutely hate it but I'm not finding anyway to alleviate said problems.
I also paid $50 a pop to Lewis Black from crappy seats from way back when, and meh. The highlight of the evening was a guy every here loves whose name I don't remember. Burnt out guy with sunglasses and deadpan and non emotional high on delivery on strange observational comedy. He has since died some years ago.

ok, it's been almost four years since my last expensive concert (Roger Waters), so i'll spring for this. i'm still skeptical as to whether Ozzy can even stand up straight without assistance, but we'll see.hitbyambulance wrote:Black Sabbath for $150... and middlin' seats at that (plus an hour bus-ride to Tacoma Dome). and no Bill Ward. i dunno...

I forgot to post in this thread when I saw Muse in mid-December but
Really. Go see Muse if you have the slightest bit of interest. This time around they put a circular stage in the center of the arena and we had seats almost directly opposite. Just an amazing production and show.

Re: concerts....who you seeing?
Black Sabbath came out strong but by the end of the show you could tell they were getting tired. Ozzy's voice broke a few times and he strayed off key more and more as the night wore on but I'm not complaining. I was just happy to see Tony, Geezer, and Ozzy together.
Of course, there's always that ONE song you were hoping to hear which the band doesn't play and in my case it was Sabbath Bloody Sabbath which is probably my favorite. I would rather have had that than, say, Dirty Woman. Other than that they hit pretty much all the other ones that you would expect.
Overall, we had a good time and enjoyed the show even despite the folks behind us smoking the skunkiest ditch weed I've ever smelled.

My wife does, but I don't really know much about it, and we don't get out to shows much these days. I linked to it on FB a long time ago. It stopped giving me information some time ago but that might be more a function of my bands going away than it not working for me anymore.Pyperkub wrote:Has anyone used the Band is in Town app/site? my email suggest September of 2013 was the last time they emailed.
I also used Songkick by email for awhile. I still get notifications from them every so often. I actually got one today informing of Gogol Bordello and of Chairlift's tours coming to my area.
it's been a long time since I've maintained these things, in part because I haven't been discovering new music and in part because I just don't go out any more.

Re: concerts....who you seeing?
i used last.fm, but because it's user updated, i was missing too many shows. (also, since the latest site redesign, a lot of people have stopped using it.) Songkick is better, but you still have to input evvvvery single band you want to be notified about. pretty much i have to rely on local venue calendars, and check every few weeks (and i still miss stuff... Psychic TV scheduled a last minute show here in December and i totally did not hear about that)

Brian Wilson will be in Phoenix on his "Pet Sounds & More" tour. If it was Tucson it would be a no brainer, but Phoenix means staying in a hotel in addition to the $80+ for a decent seat.

Re: concerts....who you seeing?
I leave in about 30 minutes for my first my first 70000 Tons of Metal cruise. The lineup has slowly been getting finalized over the last couple weeks, with all the bands except one having been announced at this point. As with any festival, there are some "must see" bands, some "try to see" bands, and some "haha...nope". 60 bands, every band plays two sets over the 4 days. My personal breakdown:
Must see (will try to catch both sets)
- Turisas
- Vallenfyre
- Fleshgod Apocalypse (their new album drops the day the cruise starts)
- My Dying Bride
- Bloodbath
Will Probably see (try to get at least one set)
- At the Gates
- Iced Earth
- Cradle of Filth
- November's Doom
- Carach Angren
- Ghoul
- Eluveitie
- Belphegor
- Vader
- Skalmold
- Nervosa
- Fallujah
- Paradise Lost
- Tyr
This is my first "festival" show in probably 20 years, in addition to being my first cruise, and my first vacation of any sort in a couple years. Going to be fun!

Re: concerts....who you seeing?
Haven't been to a show since last summer but I've got some temptations and a probably talked in to coming up.
Waaves on the 23rd but probably not because it's a Tuesday and I'm not taking the next day to see them.
Locals Twistin Tarantulas and the Ruiners in one night on the 26th might get me out of the house on a Friday if I'm not too worn out.
However, Wolfmother is that same night and if you get me out, I'll probably see them instead.
Gogol Bordello, Saturday 3/26 will be performing all of Underdog Worldstrike for its 10th anniversary, so that will be tempting as it is by far their best album
Chairlift will be in town on 4/4 but it's a Monday and I'm not likely to take the next day off to see them.
Filter are 4/23, a Saturday and I think I may have commit to going.
The Reverend Horton Heat and Unknown Hinson are here on Wednesday and Thursday 4/27 and 4/28.
Off that list I'll probably summon enough energy to hit two of the weekend shows.
