DFW
A 53-year-old woman gave birth to her granddaughter Wednesday afternoon after agreeing to carry the child for her daughter.

Kelley McKissack, 28, and her husband had tried for three years to have a baby of their own. They tried multiple fertility treatments and experienced three miscarriages, the last of which happened on Christmas in 2014.

The couple's final round of in-vitro fertilization left them with four embryos. McKissack's mother, Tracey Thompson, offered to carry them as a surrogate the following April.

Thompson — already past menopause — underwent a series of medical treatments to allow her body to carry a baby once again.

Manager still hasn't called. I'm guessing they're scrambling to CYA. This was right before the storm on the 28th and I'm guessing someone hurrying to get out of the city screwed up and transferred it to O'Hare without doing whatever they had to do in the computer. That or they went on a week long joy ride.

Regardless, the fact that it's taken them this long to contact me, and that I haven't been charged overage either, tells me that they fucked up somewhere.

This garage is the same way, you can't really see a lot of damage down there but I've never had problems checking in either for the same reason. All they do is record the odometer, check the tank, and sign off.

She asked "Why would y'all just leave it with someone?"
Why would have have a porter on your premises dressed in your attire asking you leave the car with them if you didn't expect us to just leave the care with them?

I have rented cars on more than one occasion where you just get somewhere and leave the car in a space. No attendant. No receipt. No nothing. Keys in the car in an unattended lot owned by the company and walk away. Having a porter take the car from you is a step up.

Despite being a fat bastard, I've never had an issue with my appetite being the thing that causes me to overeat. It's just been a lack of desire to say no to large portions or eating when I could rather than only when I need to.

Of course, now that I'm diabetic, 'need to' isn't about appetite anyway.

I no longer know what songs and music are out there. Just hit me. As a kid I listened to radio. As a teen I carried my boombox. As a later teen and early 20 I was in my car a LOT and heard it. But after 2008 I started going out less and less. I haven't been anywhere in nearly 2 weeks. The only time I hear radio is in the car. Oh sure online I look stuff up. But I cant look up stuff I haven't heard. So I no longer know any music thats out or has come out in years. Thats a first.

Most of your local radio stations are online these days, either on iheartradio or their own websites. So if you really want to listen to your local radio while not in the car, just google "<your town name> radio". Added benefit is that usually the online version will give you the name of the song and artist, so you'll know what you're hearing.

Powerball is $1.3 billion. Cash value = $800 million. Gov takes $500 from the top :)

No, the cash value isn't the government taking $500 million off the top. $1.3 billion is the full value if you choose an annuity; $800 million is what you get if you take it all at once. The government takes their cut from $800 million; that would leave you with roughly $483 million (and that's just the federal taxes).

I was watching a report about this. 1.3 billion is the projected value. They divide the pot in 29 equal parts and invest it. Each year, you get 1/29th plus the interest. If it does well, you do well. If it doesn't, all you get is the 1/29th.

Either way, I'm pretty sure I could find a way to live on the result. :)

Read a thing on it the other day. Always take the lump sum .....well unless you are young and cant control your spending. Also on that pay out over time...if you die then your estate is liable for the ENTIRE tax on it right then...no more paying it from the payments. Im sure the relatives would love that one.

I keep seeing the statistic that about 70% of major lottery winners go broke again--all of these, of course, are people who took the lump sum rather than an annual payment.

The basic pattern is that most people don't know how to manage money, and suddenly having a ton of it very stressful: everyone you know wants a piece of you, as does every scammer everywhere for as long as you're still rich.

If someone offered me $100,000,000 or a guaranteed annual income of $300,000 for the rest of my life, I'd like to think I would still take the annual. Secure wealth > precarious wealth regardless of the total.

It would be nice to find out. For me it would largely depend on how inheritance works. I'd see a Zarathud before I made my decision. I don't think I'd do well with a jet setters life, but I'd want to make sure my family are comfortable after I'm gone. I think Ideally I'd take an annuity but I'd have my siblings and parents and nieces and nephews somehow attached to it.

Anyone who plays the lottery makes terrible financial decisions -- while economically you would be better off with the lump sum if you made good financial investments, you probably won't if you just won the lottery. All of the family, friends and scammers come out to feed off the jackpot. If you don't have the money and still on a (large) budget, it's easier to say no.

Got the receipt for the rental car. No charges, no problems. They did record 740 miles, there is absolutely no way I put more than 250 on it, but I'm just going to let that go (no mileage charges). Some employee got a free 500 miles out of the deal. *shrug*
