Never saw this website mentioned, so I thought it's worth posting here...
There's a website that checks and verifies that a certain game has been liberated (i.e. offered for free) by its developer. That website is
http://liberatedgames.org/
While a lot of the games are only released as source code, many classics such as Grand Theft Auto / GTA2, the Cinemaware games, and so on are now available in playable form!
And this website can cite each and every license deal. No abandoneware myth here... This is the real and legal thing.
