How would that make things more ridiculous? Of course Palin is endorsing Trump. It would only be shocking if she endorsed someone other than Trump or Cruz.

Well according to Cruz's communication director:El Guapo wrote:How would that make things more ridiculous? Of course Palin is endorsing Trump. It would only be shocking if she endorsed someone other than Trump or Cruz.
Let that sink in -- we've reached a point where Presidential candidates are fighting over a potential Palin endorsement."I think it would be a blow to Sarah Palin, because Sarah Palin has been a champion of the conservative cause and if she was going to endorse Donald Trump, sadly she would be endorsing someone who's held progressive views all their life on the sanctity of life, on marriage, on partial-birth abortion, he supported [the] TARP bailout — it goes on and on and on," Tyler said.

Carson would be a more logical choice since he is the least-qualified national candidate since Palin. Re: The Art of the Donald Trump Sideshow
If true, Palin would be endorsing the man who disparaged John McCain's service.
McCain is the only reason anybody knows who she is. I'm sure he's not at all regretting his VP selection. In retrospect, that pick was the first huuuuuge harbinger of the current state of the GOP.
It's kind of hard to believe that there are now presidential candidates more wacky (Carson) and extreme (Trump) than her.

Why not? He's already nailed the Putin, Busey, Sheen, and Rodman endorsements. Once Randy Quaid comes on board, it'll be a lock.

The Trump quotation of the week is from his attempt to court Evangelicals at Liberty University, where he referenced "Two Corinthians, 3:17."
No doubt it looked that way to him on paper, but the audience knows that 2 Corinthians is always and without exception called "Second Corinthians." It's like the guest of honor at a Star Wars convention announcing that his favorite droid is "Cee-Three-Pee-Zero."

Re: The Art of the Donald Trump Sideshow
NIV
CNNNow the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
Donald Trump pitched himself Monday to Christian students at Liberty University as a politically incorrect protector of Christianity, tailoring his classic stump speech to the evangelical audience with mixed success.
"Christianity, it's under siege," Trump proclaimed early in his speech to the crowd of about 10,000 -- overwhelmingly Liberty University students who are required to attend the university's tri-weekly convocations.
...
[The verse is] the university's "School Verse" which is prominently displayed on campus.
...
Taylor Timmerman and Victoria Clay, both seniors, said they thought Trump's focus on Christianity during his speech did seem authentic, with Clay pointing Trump's friendship with Jerry Falwell, Jr, the university's president who spoke glowingly about Trump in introducing the Republican candidate.
Falwell, the son of controversial Christian evangelist and Liberty University founder Jerry Falwell Sr., noted that the university does not endorse candidates for office and has invited both Democratic and Republican presidential candidates to speak at the university.
But Falwell lauded Trump in a lengthy introduction that he offered to neither Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, a Democratic presidential contender who recently spoke at the university, nor Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who announced his presidential bid here last spring.
Falwell glowingly compared Trump to his father due to their shared propensity for eschewing political correctness.
...
Trump's use of the word "hell" prompted some students to point to the university's student code of conduct, "The Liberty Way," which notes that any "obscene, profane or abusive language is punished with Reprimands and fines."
Trump used the word in reference to the U.S. conflicts in the Middle East (wanting to "knock the hell out of" ISIS, or "we don't know what the hell we're doing"), sparking local reactions on Yik Yak, the anonymous commenting website.
...
Trump's invitation to speak on campus on Martin Luther King Jr. Day prompted backlash from some corners of the largely conservative student body.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

I still don't get it. Or perhaps don't trust it. Can you not be a devoted Christian if you don't know that 2 Corinthians is pronounced second Corinthians or perhaps don't honor that 2 Corinthians is pronounced second Corinthians.El Guapo wrote:It doesn't make him the enemy, it's just that he's trying to pass himself off as a devoted Christian in pandering to a devoted Christian audience and failing in an embarrassing way.

No, but not knowing basic lingo of the community suggests that you are not a member in good standing of that community, that the underlying material is something that you haven't really spent much time engaging with.LordMortis wrote:I still don't get it. That's not inherently good or bad, it just makes the pandering sound especially disingenuous. The listener can do what they want with that information.
But I didn't know about the who "two Corinthians" thing (not being, you know, a Christian, engaged or otherwise). The rest of it was what I found so amusing - the whole "is that the one you like? Because I loved it."

Re: The Art of the Donald Trump Sideshow
The entire point of what he was saying was to impress upon the audience how much he was one of them and he basically achieved the opposite. I am not one of them either so it's not clear to me, but it sounds like if you were part of the group you wouldn't make the mistake. If it were a casual conversation someone would have scrunched up their eyebrows and when he paused with a questioning look they would have interjected "You mean Second Corinthians?" and from then on he would use the proper phrasing. Presumably that would have happened at some point if he were what he claimed.. I mean other than you don't correct The Donald.

I could have been clearer. The only take-away is amusement at Trump stumbling over a very (and I mean very very, as obvious as "C3Pzero") point of usage in a crowd where literally everyone else in the room has known the proper form since childhood. It marks him as an outsider precisely when he is attempting to sound like an insider.LordMortis wrote: So is the take away here, if you don't know/speak proper bible lingo then you are the enemy?
It goes along with his recent gesture of waving his Bible around ("the Bible my grandmother gave me," although it looks like it has never been opened) when speaking to other Evangelical crowds.
The problem isn't his ignorance of shibboleths; it's his pretense and hypocrisy.

What is funny is seeing people who aren't even religious try to make political hay of it. More than a little strange to mock people for clinging to their guns and bibles one day and then try to call them out the next for "bible grammar".
Besides he really loves that "Corinthian leather".

It's official - Palin is down for the T:
However, this is actually my favorite quote:“I’m proud to endorse Donald J. Trump for president,” Ms. Palin said in a statement provided by his campaign.
Using Trump's voice, it sounds perfect. However, I also then imagined Mitt Romney saying it and "high quality person" sounded awful. Like she would be in the first few pages of the AAA binder. Game on.“I am greatly honored to receive Sarah’s endorsement,” Mr. Trump said in a statement trumpeting Mrs. Palin’s decision. “She is a friend, and a high-quality person whom I have great respect for. I am proud to have her support.”

First, no, I don't think you can be much of a Christian if you don't know your bible. That just makes you a person who behaves nicely and hopes for the best (and even that is too much to ask of Trump).
Second, in an attempt to identify with his audience (well, pander, but let's say otherwise) he is trying to talk the lingo. But he's not doing it as if he's an outsider (in which he might be excused for "mispronouncing" the language. In fact that can be endearing to an audience if done without pretense) he's attempting to show that he's part of the community he's speaking to. His screw up (one I would make too, as it happens) was so bad that it's not only clear that he's not one of them, it's clear that someone else told him what to say in the hopes of "fooling" the audience. That's not just pandering, that's insulting to the audience.
So for you it's "no big deal" but for most of the audience, it has got to be at least a little off putting, if not downright insulting.
I don't know how El Guapo could have made it more clear. And like he said, it's fine if it doesn't bother you, but that's not a typical response.

I can't disagree with that. Sure, he is trying to pander to bible thumpers and since he isn't one it comes off poorly. Not much different than Hillary when she tries to pander to poor black people. It doesn't matter because both groups will support them because their other choice is someone they find offensive far beyond the offensiveness of someone pandering to you.El Guapo wrote:Trump's obviously not the first politician to pander badly, though this is probably in the Top 10 of bad pandering.Rip wrote:Which not so ironically is the polar opposite to most of you guys.El Guapo wrote:Ah, the classic Rip two-step.
(1) It isn't true.
(2) Well, regardless, it's no worse than what Hillary does.
(1) Hillary doesn't do that intentionally and if she does it isn't offensive, so they will still vote for her.
(2) Can you believe Trump miss pronounced a bible word? All those religious folk must hate her, or they are just stupid because they should run out and vote for the lady that attacks the women who her husband victimized. Like good christians.
In the end of no importance from a "winning the election" perspective.

Incidentally, Sarah Palin's son was arrested last night on domestic violence and weapons charges.
Normally this would be an embarrassment, but in the present cycle it probably somehow translates into right-wing credibility. (How many AR-15's has Chelsea Clinton been arrested with, after all?)

I just watched her endorsement speech. That was so painful. It's like they are running a student body president campaign.
