Re: The Art of the Donald Trump Sideshow
Remember when Drumpf said he saw hundreds of muslims cheering in NY during 9/11? And when he was refuted, he scrambled a bit trying to back up his "facts"?
Those were the good old days. I miss them.
Now he says whatever random shit he feels like and if anyone calls him on it he just insults the person's mother and the crowd goes wild and that's the end of that.

Re: The Art of the Donald Trump Sideshow
This article is thoroughly unconvincing. All it really says is "Trump has more appeal to white working class voters, there are white working class voters in traditional democratic states, therefore Trump might win traditional democratic states." But all they have in there in terms of objective data (which isn't much) cuts against their argument:Defiant wrote:How Donald Trump scrambles the general election map
A University of New Hampshire poll out this week shows Clinton with an 8-point lead over Trump in a hypothetical matchup — but there are some warning signs for Clinton. She trails Trump by about 15 points among non-college voters, a group Barack Obama won by 2 points four years ago.
Wisconsin has been part of a Democratic blue wall for decades; the last Republican to carry the state was Ronald Reagan in 1984. And while a Marquette Law School poll released last week showed Clinton poised to carry the state over Trump, the race was neck-and-neck among less-educated voters.
So....Trump is poised to take several traditionally democratic states by capturing a lot of working class votes! Only Hillary's still leading notwithstanding Trump doing disproportionately well among blue collar voters, who the data suggests are less likely to vote.“Can he succeed in mobilizing new voters in November? When we look at our data, Trump’s supporters say they are less likely to vote than others’,” Franklin said. “I had a great illustration of that. Some anonymous caller left a voice message yesterday that complained that our poll must have only included people in Milwaukee because 80 percent of his friends in Appleton are voting for Trump.”
Hillary must be terrified by this article.

More Latinos Seek Citizenship to Vote Against Trump.
It's great to see Trump and his supporters doing their part for U.S. diversity.
These numbers themselves won't be decisive, but I imagine they're a pretty good predictor of a big rise in Latino voter turnout.Over all, naturalization applications increased by 11 percent in the 2015 fiscal year over the year before, and jumped 14 percent during the six months ending in January, according to federal figures. The pace is picking up by the week, advocates say, and they estimate applications could approach 1 million in 2016, about 200,000 more than the average in recent years.

Re: The Art of the Donald Trump Sideshow
That's the core problem. As was referenced in an article I posted earlier in this thread, some people are saying that Trump could win the general by driving up white working class turnout (including capturing normally democratic working class votes). But not only would he need to get a historically high level of white working class votes to be competitive, even if he could, that's implicitly assuming that he could run the requisite nativist campaign without simultaneously driving up minority turnout in the process.

If the election were today, then Clinton (or Sanders) would win in a landslide But the election isn't today. There's eight months and a whole general election campaigning to go through, so I remain unconvinced of hypothetical matches this far out.
I think Trump in the race has the potential to fundamentally change the basics of the electoral map that we haven't seen in a long, long time. While not the best article, it at least touches on the issue.

Re: The Art of the Donald Trump Sideshow
Oh yeah, head-to-head polls at this point are not super probative. My overall point is that Trump is staring down some hard numbers in a general election. That starts with his favorability numbers (or lack thereof) outside of the GOP base, including most specifically an unfavorable rating of 80% among Hispanic voters. That poll shows him losing Hispanic voters to Clinton 73-16 (!!!).Defiant wrote:If the election were today, then Clinton (or Sanders) would win in a landslide But the election isn't today. Yes, there's lots and lots of time, but it's REALLY hard to see how Trump gets anywhere with Hispanic voters after the shit he's thrown around during the primary, and really hard to see how he wins with his abysmal polling with them (and other minority groups).

Re: The Art of the Donald Trump Sideshow
I think the real question is one of turnout. Hispanic turnout has been much lower than that of white and black turnout. In the past few elections, they said that "this year, they'll turnout in large numbers", but they didn't. Maybe Trump's demagoguery will manage to change that.El Guapo wrote: That starts with his favorability numbers (or lack thereof) outside of the GOP base, including most specifically an unfavorable rating of 80% among Hispanic voters. Re: The Art of the Donald Trump Sideshow
Maybe. But Trump would almost certainly need to increase white turnout / vote percentage for him above recent levels (Romney did decisively win the white vote last election, I want to say getting 62% of the white vote). Given that Trump's level of the Hispanic vote is likely to fall below Romney's sterling 27% share, can Trump increase white votes (share / turnout) without also correspondingly increasing minority turnout for Clinton?Defiant wrote:I think the real question is one of turnout. Re: The Art of the Donald Trump Sideshow
I'm ok with several of them.
Omarosa would be great anywhere but at Treasury is a perfect fit. No one is hiding a dime without her knowing about it.
Gilbert would put the fun back into killing people.
No one would dare piss off the Attorney General.
Penn would at least make it appear that there was some development going on.
Geraldo would help find all those resources because we all know how talented he is at finding stuff.
Finally the Dice Man would straighten out anyone with his verbal poetry. I doubt anyone would be late for an appointment more than once.

Honestly Attorney General Ferrigno would be totally in play. The only problem with that specific cabinet listing is that Dennis Rodman is absolutely a lock for Trump's Secretary of State.

Interesting, but it's worth pointing out that In his first claim, he says that 78% of the words Trump uses are "one syllable". However, he counts multiple two-syllable words in that total: country, Sweden, people, fourteen.Kraken wrote:That's enlightening. Trump yanks on Christie's chain.Hitching his star to Trump has gotta be the worst move he has made in recent years. I think as a populace we the citizens of NJ are going to have to revoke his buffet card soon. A major transit strike is looming that will cripple the region and our useless sack of shit Governor is sniffing around the Donald. WTF?!?

The Hindus for Trump Facebook page, which has 500 "likes", has gone so far as to place the business tycoon on the same pedestal as some of the most revered Hindu gods. They have come out with a poster where Mr Trump is seen sitting in a yoga posture on a lotus with the "Om" symbol—an uncanny resemblance to the Hindu Gods Brahma and Vishnu. In Hindu beliefs, Brahma is the creator of the world and Vishnu the protector and restorer of moral order. A post on the group's Facebook page appeals to "Trump Haters". "Donald Trump promises to make America Great again. It means more jobs, less warmongering, protected borders, treasury surplus and a better life for LEGAL Americans. He's going to win and you are on the wrong side of History."

Seeing reports that Ben Carson will endorse Trump tomorrow. I did not see that one coming.
I assumed his mostly Evangelical voters would go to Cruz. Maybe they still will to a large degree, but this can only help Trump. I guess Ben still is smarting from Cruz's dirty tricks in Iowa. Or maybe he's angling for VP. Now THAT would be one insane combo.
