Re: The Art of the Donald Trump Sideshow
The problem with Rubio is his perceived lack of experience. I think Trump needs someone who doesn't come off looking like a kid playing dress-up.
A woman would help combat Hillary's strength among women, and a minority would go a long way to smooth over his perceived racism.....
There is only one choice!

Is there where we post polls?
The new CNN/ORC Poll, completed ahead of Trump's victory last night, found Clinton leads 54% to 41%, a 13-point edge over the New York businessman, her largest lead since last July.

Knowing he needs to repair the rift somehow created between himself and various ethnicites, here's Trump's short list of running mates:
Will help smooth the transition back to relations with Cuba
Will aid in forcing manufacture of salty, fried snack back to the US
My money's on Carmen, since he gets the two-fer of the Hispanic vote and the women's vote.

I really wish the anger had materialized as votes for the Libertarian candidate. However I don't even know who the hell that is, so I wouldn't know how to vote for them at this point. I was forced to vote for Cruz in the primary, but he didn't carry the state.

I can see Palin turning him down and honestly and she's just as polarizing. I can see Gingrich doing it. Wait, what?!? Nothing says anti-intellectualism like asking for space lasers. Of course, all the sources I can find want to label him that based on the 60s.
I would posit that being Governor of California during 60s student unrest and trying to get things under control is a bit different than being a blanket anti-intellectualist.UT Arlington wrote:Reagan based his political emergence on anti-intellectualism in part by exploiting the gulf between the university community and the general public by calling faculty and students troublemakers and “self-indulgent snobs.” He condemned universities for “subsidizing intellectual curiosity,” and threatening to dismiss university chancellors if they failed to control campus unrest (this was in the 1960s).

Palin has been humping Trump's leg from the beginning--she's probably texting him "Yes" every fifteen minutes just in case he offers. (He won't. She distracts attention from him, and he already has her supporters in his pocket.)tru1cy wrote:I can see Palin turning him down and honestly and she's just as polarizing. It could be Gingrich, but announcing Gingrich as his intended Secretary of State would do just as well. Trump might want to work the demographic angle for his VP.

I predict he will work the demographic angle. Look for a black, female, or Hispanic VP nominee-- or a combination of the three.

Yes, but you must use the proper format, which demands ending the post with the ninja emoji.Exodor wrote:Is there where we post polls?

In fact, I am getting a little weirded out by the lack of finishing ninjas in the last few pages...for a while there, seemingly every post had one, and now? Where did they go? Vincent Vega wants to know.

I agree. It will not be an old white male. It's not going to be Pail either, even Trump knows she is general election poison. The further he keeps her away from the campaign the better.msduncan wrote:I predict he will work the demographic angle. Trump isn't going to be politically correct and balance the ticket with anyone other than a former party leader.
Newt fits Trump's credibility gap too perfectly--and has deep experience fighting the Clintons. He'll also say Yes.

Re: The Art of the Donald Trump Sideshow
I can't imagine anyone with future aspirations would want to be associated with such a disaster-in-the-making. The stench of failure would cling to them for life. Either it will be someone who is already a joke (Palin, Gingrich), or some doddering old fool who'd likely not survive the term if ever there was one. I guess a third option would be a nobody who's on the fringe and unlikely to amount to anything -- such a candidate may take a flyer on it since the odds of assassination would have to be the highest they've been in quite some time.PLW wrote:Condi Rice would be an amazing choice, but I doubt she'd accept.

If Rice wanted to be in the White House, the top of the ticket would have been hers for the asking before Trump even farted onto the scene. There's no way she's interested in going down with his ship.

I think I summed up nicely how desperate they must be! Who can they pick (that would take it) that would give the ticket more credibility? Their best option will be one with a neutral effect, but I think it's more likely they'll double-down on the crazy.hepcat wrote:I think you underestimate how desperate the GOP is right now.

Re: The Art of the Donald Trump Sideshow
Rice would be a terrible choice for everyone involved. For Rice, like Jeff V said she would immediately get Trump's stink on her. Right now she has an above-the-fray stateswoman perception to her, which is invaluable in any future public or private ventures for her going forward - that would be immediately tarnished.
For Trump there are a couple problems. First, her involvement in the Bush foreign policy team, and most specifically her connection to the Iraq War, hurts Trump's ability to knock Clinton for supporting the Iraq War. Second, it's unclear that "balancing the ticket" by including a minority / woman VP would really help Trump all that much. It's, shall we say, not entirely clear that Trump's base is terribly desirous of making sure that public representatives come from across the rainbow. For people who *are* significantly motivated by ensuring minority representation at the highest level of public life...is the VP choice really going to get many of those people to vote Trump?

You're right. I keep trying to think of the Trump campaign as wanting to appeal to a hypothetical reasonable voter, so I think in terms of balancing Trumps weakness on foreign policy and inclusiveness. In fact, all evidence suggests he will double down. Thus I predict Joe Arpaio (?), or whatever the name is of that crazy charismatic anti-immigrant Arizona sheriff.
