While I don't expect Venn diagrams to be to scale, that is a very bizarre one. I mean you can tell what it's trying to say, but that isn't what it is saying.

Venn diagrams, how do they work?
Since the graphic isn't a Venn diagram, are the workings of Venn diagrams pertinent to the claim that 90% of Americans, and 83% of gun-owners (reasonably presumed to be Americans) support universal background checks (reasonably presumed to be for the purpose of purchasing a firearm)? Or does a graphic design with overlapping circles magically become a Venn diagram because the viewer happens to know about Venn diagrams? In that case, shouldn't you be out there setting the IOC and Mastercard straight too?

Or were you just being Snarky McSnarkface because it's Friday and you won't get to go back to work until Monday? Because I'm totally feeling snarky because it's Friday, and I don't get to go back to work until never, and weekends no longer feel special. :(

While i suppose it could just be a random background design that has nothing to do with the words, to me it pretty clearly impies that it's trying to be a Venn Diagram, in particular since it's related to subsets of sets.

Of course, it comes off about as convincingly as this "dog":

I read the posts questioning the Venn diagram before I saw it. I went back to find it, fully expecting that Isgrim et al would be mostly correct, but after looking at it for two seconds, it's clearly not a Venn diagram. While I understand why people would look at it and say it's a Venn diagram fail, that was not my initial impression nor my final impression after looking at it.

Sure, maybe, it was an attempt to show a great deal of overlap between the gun owners and non-gun owners, but if it was, it was completely broken. So much so that I didn't even think it was, and only because people were discussing it did it register, for me. Again, I can see why some would call it a crappy Venn diagram because it takes the form of one at first glance, but the words put that to rest pretty much immediately.

In any case, it's certainly supposed to represent a meeting in the middle of both sides of the aisle on this topic, but that's more of a graphic design thing than mathematical representation.

Ok, too many words for this. It's a dumb image no matter your viewpoint.

Yeah, that looks like him on the right (ironically). The White Knight himself. But what are you trying to say about Hillary, what with her arms off and all?

Looks like Rip has moved on from his Clinton fetish to something new. From this last post, I'd say that he has trouble stranding up any time a woman wearing a hijab walks by. Full on burka? Rip'll be in his bunk...

No.

Male circumcision is customary for Islamic men just as it is for Jews. Female circumcision is practiced by extremely conservative groups (meaning ISIS and Boko Haram, not the uptight mosque downtown). It is not religiously mandated, and it's forbidden by mainstream Islamic religious authorities.

In the parts of the world where female genital mutilation is common (e.g. Nigeria), it is as widespread among Christians as among other groups.

Sort of, but (Shockingly!) it really isn't what Rip and his ilk would have you believe.

As I understand it (I am not a religous scholar nor an anthropologist), male circumcision (khitan) is pretty much mainstream Islam, but isn't universally compulsory. Female circumcision (khafd), perhaps more properly described as female genital mutilation, is also a thing, but it isn't a mainstream Islamic practice. It appears to be a regional custom in a part of Africa that is practiced by Muslims, Christians and others, which implies that it predates the arrival of the Abrahamic religions in that area.

Edit: Oh noes! I've been isgrimnured by Holman...

Not to mention the "ceremony" often happens right around puberty (ie. fully aware of the torture), outside of a hospital (no sanitary conditions, emergency services or medical professionals), by a female villager who has obtained the honor of slicing the genitals of young girls with a sharp piece of slate.

It's monstrous.

It's common in Egypt, but when it's been outlawed by the government and condemned by Islamic religious authorities you can't exactly call it "Muslim teaching."

Many of the people fighting to end it in Egypt are themselves Muslims.

Not just any old verb, either, but an idiomatic verb with multiple forms and definitions:
  1. to isgrimnur: to research and answer a question, providing citations and references.
  2. to be isgrimnured: to attempt to answer a question, only to be preempted by another answer that is submitted in the period of time required to compose one's own answer.

It's a college football record 61 bowl appearances.
It's 34 bowl victories.
It's 24 Southeastern Conference Championships.
It's 15 National Championships.

At some places they play football. At Alabama we live it.
