Re: [TV] New Star Trek Show in Development?
After thinking off and on all day about a new Trek Ive come to only one conclusion.......other than a Klingon crew show there could be only one new Trek that would rock the socks.....one all about Shran and his ship. Shran and crew enter a new sector of space to 'pacify' it for Andoria . With all the Federation troubles that would come of it...a cloak and dagger Shran and crew.
So what do you pink skins think of that?

Re: [TV] New Star Trek Show in Development?
Ive always thought there were 3 Star Trek shows Id watch...
Riker and the USS Titan
Sulu and the USS Excelsior
Klingon ship and crew conquering a new area of space
But now theres a 4th one that Id give up all the others for....
Shran and the crew of the Kumari.

Trailer
Pretty much just shows us the ship. Which looks similar to the prototype for one in the aborted Phase 2 series (that was replaced with the motion picture):
In the trailer, the bottom does look a bit like one of the old style klingon or maybe romulan ship from TOS?
It looks ugly and clunky, IMO.

Damn, that ship looks like the illegitimate rape child from the unholy union of a Bird of Prey and the Enterprise D.
Well do you ever get the feeling that the story's too damn real and in the present tense?
Or that everybody's on the stage and it seems like you're the only person sitting in the audience?

Interesting. There is a lot not to like in that trailer, the ship aesthetic, the militaristic soundtrack. This could be a disaster.

My first thoughts:
~That music, had I heard it without context, I'd have pegged as Klingon music.
~That looks like a Klingon Battlecruiser - a lot like a Klingon Battlecruiser.
I wonder if that is coincidence?

That ship is actually based on an old Ralph McQuarrie design. Looks promising, but makes me wonder if this is supposed to take place around Enterprise's time given how clunky it is.
Now to hope that this can be seen outside of CBS All Access for those not fortunate enough to be able to access it.

Should be broadcast on Space or Z, from what the wiki says. On my phone, or I'd provide links.

Does look like a cross between Fed and Klingon. Also looks a lot like the Vulcan IDIC symbol.
I cant believe so many people are already bitching online. Well ya I can. Buncha asshats. Hope they dont watch cause I dont want it canned before it gets good. Trek fans are such jaded asholes. Not a bit like they used to be.

Do you not remember the hubbub when they announced that the new Captain of the Enterprise would be a bald guy, and that there would be a Klingon and a robot on the bridge?

It's a shame it's only on CBS All Access. I do not like the platform and certainly won't be paying $7/month just for this show.

I'm guessing it will show up on Netflix for the U.S. and Canada. It will be at least one season behind, but I bet that's part of the deal they made.

Seems like the sensible thing would be to wait for the entire first season to be out, sign up, watch, and then unsubscribe.stessier wrote:It's a shame it's only on CBS All Access. I do not like the platform and certainly won't be paying $7/month just for this show.

Are you sure it will work that way? For their TV programs, you only get 7 episodes as a subscriber - a situation which fuels most of my rage over the product.El Guapo wrote:Seems like the sensible thing would be to wait for the entire first season to be out, sign up, watch, and then unsubscribe.stessier wrote:It's a shame it's only on CBS All Access. Wait, they only give you access to seven episodes (presumably the most recent episodes) of each series? How does that make any sense? Presumably if you fall more than seven episodes behind you have to wait for the DVD or something?stessier wrote:Are you sure it will work that way? Do we know how many episodes are going to be in a season for the show? Even with that dumb restriction, I would assume that it would make sense to wait until week 8, sign up, watch episodes 1-7, then watch the rest the next month. Depending on the number of episodes you could probably get it done with two or possibly three months of subscribing, so $14 or $21 for the season, which isn't crazy for a show. If it's any good.
But anyway for whatever reason I find myself mostly indifferent, as I'm not dying for new Star Trek at the moment.

If its going to cost $21 you may as well wait for the blu-ray and buy the series.El Guapo wrote:Wait, they only give you access to seven episodes (presumably the most recent episodes) of each series? Yes, "All Access" is very nearly false advertising in my opinion. What they really mean is "here is ALL we are going to allow you to ACCESS. And yeah, I'm pretty sure they are trying to protect DVD sales.El Guapo wrote:Wait, they only give you access to seven episodes (presumably the most recent episodes) of each series? Re: [TV] New Star Trek Show in Development?
What this is, is the growing pains of the new direction of entertainment. Cable is dying, its a slow death for sure but streaming is taking over the market. Eventually cable will fade. Right now you have all of the various channels and networks trying to find how they are going to get their slice of the pie. CBS has been particularly aggressive in this area as they withhold their tv series from other services like Hulu, Netflix and Prime, and have set up their own plan to monetize their properties. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out and if the other networks follow suit. Its no coincidence that they chose a strong brand franchise to use as a test series for their pay stream.

Same here, as much as I'd like me some new Star Trek, I won't be extorted by CBS to pay for their service, and I'm pretty certain they will quickly need to cut their losses by making it available elsewhere. Of course, by then the show might be bagged due to lack of interest, but at least networks won't be inclined to jack us around like this again.Blackhawk wrote:I think they're in for a rude awakening.rshetts2 wrote:It will be interesting to see how this all plays out and if the other networks follow suit.

I've probably said this before, but just getting streaming TV would require a personal tech revolution beginning with a new television. We will inevitably overhaul our TV situation someday, but not for this. I'm patient. I can wait for DVDs or cable rebroadcast.Jeff V wrote:Same here, as much as I'd like me some new Star Trek, I won't be extorted by CBS to pay for their service, and I'm pretty certain they will quickly need to cut their losses by making it available elsewhere. Not that I am advocating it, but CBS All Access is available on Roku. The Roku Lite connects to the TV via component cables and wirelessly to your computer. If you can watch a DVD, you should be able to stream. It runs about $50.

Re: [TV] New Star Trek Show in Development?
Most of the holes in my tv already have wires going into them. I do have one set of "Component" sockets left open though. I thought those streaming boxes needed HDMI -- that's what their setup page shows -- but if the Roku can really use the connections that I have available I might go for it.stessier wrote:Not that I am advocating it, but CBS All Access is available on Roku. Ah, I see: "Roku 1 comes standard with Composite cables just in case your TV doesn't have HDMI®. For full HD, you'll need HDMI® though."
Theoretically I might be able to give Roku my HDMI input and switch whatever's using it now (my DVD player? cable box? IDK) to something else. But this is where it starts turning into the overhaul that I don't want to do.
