World's oldest living man confirmed as Auschwitz survivor.
The world’s oldest documented living man has been confirmed as an Israeli Auschwitz survivor living in Haifa.

Israel Kristal, aged 112 and 178 days on 11 March, was handed a certificate at his home by a representative of the Guinness World Records confirming him as the oldest known man on the planet.

...

Kristal was born in Zarnow, Poland, on 15 September 1903. When the first world war broke out in 1914, he saw Kaiser Franz Joseph in person but became separated from his parents, later moving aged 17 to Lodz to work in the family confectionery business.

He continued to work as a sweet maker in the ghetto there when it was established by the Nazis in 1940. Four years later he was sent to Auschwitz, where he lost his wife.

Kristal himself survived despite being used as a slave labourer in Auschwitz and other concentration camps.

He was rescued from the brink of death by the allies in May 1945, weighing only 37kg. The sole survivor of his family – his children also died during the Holocaust – he emigrated in 1950 to the city of Haifa in Israel with his second wife and their son.

So much loss though. I hope he was able to find peace after losing everything during that horror.

I am so looking forward to September. Mom is going to get a 24 hour caregiver to help with the load. No way my ex can do overnights and still teach. I look forward the election mailings and then straight into the holiday rush. I can still do the twice a week overnight care, but it would really be fugly.

Chair means vertical. I don't do vertical very well on the day off.

Hah. I told my wife we helped people with kidneys everywhere. All of them. People without kidneys were out of luck.

I have an Aunt that is ancient now (don't let her know I said that) with no functioning kidneys. She's a crotchety old crone (having no functioning kidneys will do that to you I suspect) but I still love her.

On the plus side, the car was fully functional the last time I drove it (which was at least 2 years ago now), and I donated 4 nearly new snow tires with steel rims along with it. They should be able to get some decent cash for everything.

I'm crotchety even with 27% functioning kidneys, so I sympathize. :)

I was just thinking that if I could time travel Id love to go back to the 50s or 60s and see the rat pack perform or some similar music show. Then I got to thinking that in the future if time travel is a thing that someone would be selling time travel vacations. For a small *cough* amount they'd send you back to a time of your choosing for a week. Of course you'd have no items on you to give you away if something happened and if you screwed something up they'd have 'fixers' . Then at the end of your vacation they'd just bring you back. But just think..at some show or concert or even a movie you are at there could be time travelers there in the audience with you.

I'm not a hockey guy, but what was the goalie doing so far out of the goal? If he was in position that would have been a trivial stop.

It wasn't exactly a regulation play. You aren't allowed to start with the puck on your stick from your bench.

You come out to make yourself a bigger target and cut down on the angles that would get to the net. As the shooter approaches, you retreat to prevent him from skating around you to an open net.

Winnetka
Why do goalies frequently come out of in front of their net?

Usually when a goalie leaves the area immediately in front of the goal it is to reduce the shooting area, cut down the angle of the shooter or for the offensive player to release his shot before he would like to. After coming out of the net, the goalie is usually backing up slowly in an attempt to get the shooter to commit himself first.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

Hey, guy in the office who continually tells everyone how good he's being about his diet. Repeatedly cutting the banana nut muffins I brought in this morning into halves and then eating them over the course of an hour, hoping that someone thinks three people are thereby eating said muffins, is fooling no one.

In my younger easier days I poked fun of old people and their fiber and their enemas. Ive stopped doing that as both have helped me a lot lately as I get older and take pain meds. I gotta say that whatever is in those bottles when you buy them is damn amazing stuff. Not only does it help you go it MAKES you go..that stuff is like magic. Using water is not the same.

IMHO, you should have donated it to livercar, if at all possible. Could have helped OO'ers all over the continent ;)

Had some of my best gaming days and nights on that setup :) Could I go back...I like to dream I could but no I couldn't take it. I loved DOS but I doubt I could get a game to run on it now lol. The times, the places, and the people are gone now. So I have my memories.

Id go back for a while though :)
