I know Matisyahu is not for everyone, but I saw him for the 5th time last night after getting on the band guest list, so I got to take selfies with him and talk for a minute. Show was the best yet. If you think he has changed from album to album, his live shows haven't changed nearly as much and they are just awe-inspiring...if you like drum and bass.

Amorphis is touring with Swallow the Sun this spring.

They're not coming to SLC, but are in Denver on 4/11. Mark your calendar Xmann, I might be headed your way for that one. :)

Slayer is here next week. Haven't decided if I'm going yet. Without Lombaro and Hanneman, is it really Slayer?

Traveling sucks. I'm missing both Bad Religion and Skeletonwitch/Gatecreeper this month because I'm on the road.

I saw Slayer a few months after Hanneman died a couple years back. Gary Holt just sheds on the guitar. It's always a good time and I always catch them when they come around. Definitely worth considering if you enjoy their stuff. They are good about playing a really good and variable set as well.

I somehow haven't seen Anthrax or Death Angel over the years, so I'm particularly excited about that.

I would really like to see them, but not going to drive very far to do so (and nothing very big...they would be great in a small venue). I hope they expand the number of cities on their next tour.

Just saw drivin' n' cryin' for the third time and was thrilled to discover (I didn't know ahead of time) that Warner E. Hodges was playing guitar for them.

I don't think you guys go see the same bands as me.

I remember going to a bar while I was in college in Chattanooga around 93-94, can't remember the exact year.

Unbeknownst to me, Drivin' n' Cryin' walks in and sets up and plays an unscheduled set. Right damn there in this dive bar for about 20-30 of us lucky bastards.

Kevin Kinney pulls up a chair at the bar and shoots the shit with us for about an hour.

I still have Fly me Courageous and Honeysuckle Blue on my playlist.

In that case make sure to get the 4 "Songs From the..." EPs they recently released. They explored all the sounds that influenced them and they are pretty fun to listen to.

I love, love, love Drivin n Cryin. I've only seen them once - probably about 10+ years ago at Schuba's in Chicago. I was bummed a few weeks ago when I saw that they had played there again and I didn't even know they were in town. This whole parenting thing is a real time suck!

You are wrong.
Warner also plays with Dan Baird & Homemade Sin and The Bluefields.
If you like Drivin' n' Cryin and you haven't heard of either of those bands, I highly recommend them.
In fact DnC is backing up Dan Baird on their upcoming European tour. Hoping for some US dates.

I saw them open for Soul Asylum at the Nectarine Ballroom in like 1990, maybe. You may have still been in Ann Arbor at that time. I can't remember a thing about them. I wasn't even old enough to drink and yet my clearest memory of the whole evening was the Soul Asylum's "can't feel the beating" Tshirt would be a nice book end for my Jesus and Mary Chain "choice of a lost generation" Tshirt. I vaguely remember DnC had a very country sound at the time.

I was in AA at that time, but I didn't become aware of DnC until Fly Me Courageous came out in 1991. It makes sense that they would sound more country in 1990, since it seems like they really turned up the rock with Fly Me Courageous.

I can't imagine seeing bands play at the Nectarine Ballroom, though. The only time I ever went there was when my roommate dragged me there for some terrible dance night.

On Monday nights, they were hands down the best club on the west side and they occasionally got some great shows. Mondays at the Nectarine were right up there with Leland's on the weekends and the Shelter on Wednesdays on the east side.

Ministry's In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up was recorded there. That particular title grinds my goat. I had my ticket for that show but a snow storm that night was so bad I couldn't get out of our driveway to make the commute. Love and Rockets played there to support Earth, Sun, Moon, though I was still getting my small venue concert going legs during that tour and missed it. The Dead Milkmen started promoting Beelzabubba there. Before the show Rodney Anonymous was out Liberty interrogating people as to if they had seen his chicken.

I envy you guys! I'm such a Ghost fan lately. The closest they're coming to Bismarck is Missoula. I lived in Missoula once when I was 9, but haven't been back since.

I dunno man...wiki says otherwise...2-22-90 Merriville, IN

They played Ann Arbor 2-24-90 and I know that to be true because my wife's best friend was at UofM and went to that show.

We saw them for my wife's birthday on 2-20-90. I wasn't yet as big a fan as her. I had the day off and thought it'd be a great idea to take a bunch of acid in the morning and then go to my friends' house and play D&D before the show. I tripped balls and didn't tell anyone. Didn't get past rolling characters.

KMFDM blew up the PA immediately when they came on and there was a 45 minute delay while they rewired it.

Al switched back and forth between guzzling beer and guzzling whiskey. Sheer mayhem with people climbing the chain-link fence around the stage. Ogre fought people if they managed to get over the fence and threw them back into the crowd.

Probably the 2nd craziest show I've ever seen...

Edit to add for LM: I didn't post this to prove you wrong, I posted to let you know you didn't miss that show. I mean, you MISSED the show but not THAT show...

I really wanted to see Slayer and Anthrax last night, but just couldn't do it. I think Anthrax had Joey Belladonna in the lineup too.

Slayer is only half of what they were in their prime, but Paul Bostaph is a fantastic drummer. I wish I could have seen it.

Going tomorrow night here in Denver.

Belladonna is indeed on the mic. I've somehow never seen Anthrax live, so I'm excited to finally see them.

It's a short set, but I really like Death Angel as well and look forward to seeing them.

Slayer is still Slayer. They play long and really good sets.... what's not to like?

It's be a great show, no doubt.

Slayer, Anthrax, and Death Angel show this past Monday was awesome!

Death Angel was great. They only had a six song set, but they shredded through it. I've been a fan of their music for years and think them and Testament are very underrated thrash bands. Music was very tight and the band had great energy. I enjoy their new album The Evil Divide and I'll make a point of seeing them on this tour when they headline next fall

Next was Anthrax and they performed great. Joey Belladonna sounded fantastic and had really good stage presence. Looked as though he was really enjoying entertaining and not just going through the motions. Scott Ian has been one of my favorite metal musicians over the years and he shredded. Really nice 10 song set which included a few songs off their new album.

And what can you say about Slayer? I go see them every time they are in town. Why, you ask? Slayer is just a damn good live band. They are just consistently awesome. Crowds are always insane and Slayer never disappoints. The new songs are good live, particularly opening with Repentless and a really haunting and rocking When the Stillness Comes.

All in all, fantastic night of metal. Can't recommend enough for anyone to see this show.
