in Seattle, so many Sanders stickers and signs that you'd think he'd won the nomination. some Clinton, but only a handful as of the last few weeks.
i did see a Johnsonweld sign in the eastside suburbs, once.

Re: The Art of the Donald Trumpocalypse
Back near my old place, there was a Ben Carson 2016 sign that went up about two years ago, nailed to a tree. For all I know, it's still there, although the last time I saw it, the "Carson" part had worn out. So now it just says Ben 2016, in fading gray instead of bright white. Kind of melancholy if you ask me.
As for drug tests, well, Trump just wants to prove that he has the biggest, best drugs. They'll really grab you by the pussy, those drugs, I tell you. And the Mexicans will pay for them. What the hell am I talking about again?

Oregon's got a very stark urban/ rural divide - typically I see tons of -D signs in the city which switch to -R signs as soon as you get outside the suburbs.
I drove from Portland to Salem last week and saw a few clusters of -R signs for governor and a few other races - but not a single Trump sign.

Arkansas is a Republican state and has been for decades. And the northwest corner is the heart of that. It just blows me away at the support he has here. Lots of rednecks and retired people I recon.

Billy Bush is out at Today after reaching a settlement with NBC.
"Billy Bush will be leaving the Today show's 9 a.m. hour, effective today," reads a memo from Today senior vp Noah Oppenheim sent out to staff on Monday. "While he was a new member of the Today team, he was a valued colleague and longtime member of the broader NBC family. We wish him success as he goes forward."
In a statement, Bush says: "I am deeply grateful for the conversations I've had with my daughters, and for all of the support from family, friends and colleagues. I look forward to what lies ahead."
A source close to the negotiations says NBC did not require a non-compete agreement in Bush's settlement. He is free to take another job immediately.
The Today show host was suspended, pending further review, last Sunday, two days after hot-mic audio emerged from a 2005 Access Hollywood taping
...
Bush, 45, and NBC were negotiating the terms of his exit last week, with Bush hiring prominent L.A. litigator Marshall Grossman to work out his separation from the network.
Grossman, who represented Erin Andrews in her peephole case and Steven Spielberg and Clint Eastwood in other matters, defended his client's role in the Trump tape, arguing that the then-Access Hollywood anchor was interviewing a fellow NBCUniversal star in The Apprentice's Trump, so he wasn't exactly in a position to challenge his interview subject.
...
Sources at NBC confirmed to THR that Bush was heard bragging about the tape last summer, right around the time of the Rio Summer Olympics. Page Six first reported that Bush boasted about the tape during a party in Rio, when the former Access Hollywood host was making his debut as the newest member of the Today show team.
...
Management knew the tape would have consequences for Bush and began immediately discussing how to handle the situation. On Oct. 7, the day the tape become public, Bush issued an apology: "Obviously I'm embarrassed and ashamed. It's no excuse, but this happened 11 years ago — I was younger, less mature and acted foolishly in playing along. I'm very sorry."
But an initial plan to let him apologize again on the Today show was nixed after the show's staff, which is heavily female, protested to Oppenheim, say sources. And by the evening of Oct. 9, less than two hours before the second presidential debate, Oppenheim sent an email to Today staffers informing them that Bush was suspended indefinitely.
...
But in the end, the damage was deemed irrevocable for an anchor on a program with a majority female audience. There was also the very real concern that Bush would become a liability for the Today bookers if celebrities, particularly women, balked at being interviewed by him.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

Re: The Art of the Donald Trumpocalypse
After his inevitable victory, Trump is willing to pay obeisance to Putin prior to inauguration day.
Donald Trump said he would be willing to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin before Inauguration Day if he is elected president, breaking sharply with precedent and showing little compunction over stepping on the heels of President Obama’s final months in office.
“Putin has no respect at all for Obama. And I think that you have potentially a really catastrophic situation here, I'll be honest with you,” Trump told conservative radio host Michael Savage during an interview. “I will say this, if I win on November 8th ... I think I could see myself meeting with Putin and meeting with Russia prior to the start of the administration. I think it would be wonderful.”

It's getting pretty ridiculous how any of Trump inner circle - from his campaign staff to his running mate - mostly start sentences these days with "What Donald Trump meant was..." Now Melania is basically saying the same thing, just differently worded. How surprising (not).

MSD certainly seemed to announce in the Electoral Vote thread that he was voting for Trump because Hillary was coming for his guns. I haven't heard Rip denounce his Trump love, but maybe I missed it. You're totally right, though - I automatically discount anything em2nought says as maximally tuned trolling. It's MSD and Rip, though, that I can't understand. As foreign policy hawks, Trump's incoherent positions and obvious affinity for giving Putin what he wants should make them livid.noxiousdog wrote:

I can't tell if Smutly is actually voting for Trump or just anti-Hillary.
Regardless, it's way more skewed than previous elections.

The gun thing drives me nuts, because I have zero interest in guns, and the "they're coming for your guns" lie perpetuated by the NRA is just so patently false that I can't believe anyone actually believes it. They're running ads over and over here in NC saying that Hillary is going to take guns and leave women completely unprotected in their own homes, which is bullshit.
If the Democrats were truly going to take your guns, then Obama had ample opportunity to do so during his eight years in office.

Ironically, the gun nuts have taken away our guns more than Obama has (sorta). I don't go to the shooting range as much as I'd like to because the cheap ammo has been so hard to find, and the cheap ammo is only hard to find because gun people are hoarding it out of fear of Obama's impending takeover of our country.

With one notable exception. Way back at the beginning of her husband's federal level political career, she was the driving force to begin the discussion of bringing socialized medicine to the table in the US and she stuck to that discussion, even in the face failure. Something that would be uncharacteristic of her later career. It's an exception but it's huge one... and yet still not enough to overcome WalMart, IMO.Kraken wrote:And I see a neocon who's in Wall Street's pocket.

Re: The Art of the Donald Trumpocalypse
Important information for people for whom e-mail security is their #1 presidential issue.
In what might be one of the more delicious cases of irony to ever grace a presidential election, a researcher has found that a number of email servers linked to Donald Trump’s hotel and others businesses are running horribly out of date software which receive no security patches, and are lacking other precautions for keeping hackers out.
The findings come at a time when cybersecurity is a crucial topic in the presidential election, with hackers dumping documents from Hillary Clinton’s campaign online, and Trump and his supporters continuing to criticise Clinton’s use of a private email server.
“Running outdated software and operating systems for your publicly facing email infrastructure is problematic, especially when you're a high profile organisation,” security architect Kevin Beaumont, who highlighted the issues with Trump’s servers, told Motherboard in an email. “During an election where cybersecurity is such a big issue, I was a little amazed at what I saw.”
A number of mail servers for TrumpOrg.com, a domain registered to The Trump Organization, are using end-of-life software, according to Beaumont. Those include the operating system Windows Server 2003 and IIS 6.0, which comes shipped with it.
“IIS is a webserver, and it’s particularly dangerous to run unpatched,” Beaumont told Motherboard.
“During an election where cybersecurity is such a big issue, I was a little amazed at what I saw.”
According to Microsoft’s official website, “Microsoft will no longer issue security updates for any version of Windows Server 2003. If you are still running Windows Server 2003 in your datacenter, you need to take steps now to plan and execute a migration strategy to protect your infrastructure.” Microsoft ended support for that operating system in July 2015.
“It's rather worse than just using an out of date OS that can’t be kept up to date with security patches as vulnerabilities are discovered,” Professor Alan Woodward, visiting professor at the University of Surrey’s Department of Computer Science, told Motherboard in a Twitter message. “The configuration of the server appears to be somewhat less than ideal.”
On top of all this, Beaumont said the email service only uses single factor authentication. That is, users can’t link a device, say their mobile phone, to receive an extra login code, and to keep their account more secure.
