Sounds about right - he has to have some assurances he won't be linked to things he knows are wrong for the country but also being part of the process and guiding someone who is frankly inept has got to be compelling.

1. Keith Blackwell

3. Steven Colloton
4. Allison Eid
5. Neil Gorsuch
6. Raymond Gruender
7. Thomas Hardiman
8. Raymond Kethledge

The more I think about it I wonder just how much a person might be wise to avoid the Sec of State job and exactly why Romney might be the guy for the job

Wouldn't being Sec of State for Trump be like being the guy Capone sends around to "give someone a message". Kind of a messenger boy.

Trump: OK, Mitt so here is what I want you to do. You tell Khamenei that we aren't afraid of his ass and he either accepts this agreement or they face the consequences. Then you spit in his face and storm out.

Not the kind of job you give to someone you actually like.

The only way I am taking that job is if I have a terminal disease.

Also, I cannot wait for the showdown between the Republican Congress and Trump when it comes to raising the nation's debt ceiling. I know how much the Republican Congress refuses to raise that and constantly threatens to shut the govt down over that.

That was before they had a budget and a plan. I predict for the first time we will actually get a for real budget and see it approved the way it is actually supposed to happen. The the debt ceiling becomes just what it is supposed to be, a simple formality to pay for what has already been discussed and approved of.

In other news, Trump has settled the Trump University lawsuit for 25 million dollars. I'm guessing part of the terms of the settlement is that he doesn't have to admit fault...

The Trump Presidency Thread

Post by Zarathud »

The neutral budgetary groups (CBO) knew they are going to be asked to "dynamically" score the next round of Republican tax cuts. That means adding in assumptions that lower tax rates lead to more growth, thus more revenue, etc.

It was expected this budgetary "new math" would apply only to tax law changes. In the last week the reports are that the economists should start modeling how infrastructure and regulatory changes can also be "dynamically" scored to effect the economy and show economic growth.

Complete Republican control of Congress means they can assume the economic benefits of their plans in the math, so magically the economic models will show greatness and no deficits!

The snake oil is brewing. Thanks, Congress.

Sessions has been Alabama's Attorney General and has been a US Attorney. So whatever you think about how he did those jobs, he's not a fish out of water as the US AG. I don't like it because I don't like the man making the appointment, and I don't like the sorts of things that I suspect Sessions will focus on as AG (or rather what he'll choose to have the DoJ ignore). But I understand it...
As a Liberal from Alabama, I just wanted to chime in that RunningMn9 has the right take on this guy. Other than being a very conservative Alabama lawyer, there's nothing essentially wrong with this guy.

On the other hand, I'm really shocked that you guys are so excited about Romney for Secretary of State. The GOP has traditionally despised the State Department since at least the earliest days of the Cold War, and whoever Trump picks will be a figurehead who'll be hung out to dry ( think Colin Powell, not Henry Kissinger). Which, of course, makes Romney an excellent choice for the job...

Forget the racism, the misogyny, and the lies that come every other sentence.

The one thing that scares me the most out of the Trump presidency is that the guy has never held a single public office. He has absolutely zero experience. And I don't ever, ever, ever, want to hear another Republican bitch about lack of experience - because that's all I heard when Obama was elected.

And yes, I do believe Obama's lack of experience was a detriment in his first term. This is going to be a thousand times worse.

I phrase is a slightly different way. For 70 years, Trump has never even spent a single moment in service of anything but himself. How anyone thinks that is going to change is beyond me. How anyone would even agree to let him experiment on us is beyond me.

But here we are.

It's a good thing the Trump International Hotel in DC is in a blind trust and diplomats aren't at all feeling pressure to stay there to curry favor with the soon-to-be Con Man in Chief.

Re: The Trump Presidency Thread

A senate rule change championed by outgoing Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid could leave Democrats powerless to stop any of President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet appointments.

In 2013, Sen. Reid and other Democrats pushed forward with a rule change dubbed the “nuclear option” to eliminate filibusters for all presidential nominations except Supreme Court justices. This means that a simple majority of 51 votes instead of 60 votes is necessary to confirm executive office appointments.

The Republicans are set to enter 2017 with at least 51 senators and can gain another seat with a likely win in the December senate run-off race in Louisiana.

So while Democratic National Committee interim chairwoman Donna Brazile has called for the senate to reject Trump’s nomination of Republican Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions as attorney general, Trump’s cabinet will get confirmed as long Republicans vote along party lines.

Many Democrats have publicly displayed a lack of regret for the rule change.
