Video Games Randomness - Prioritize specific game threads!

We've seen a lot of Steam sales crash. They crash during sale updates (and there weren't any), after even updates (and this happened way before that), and they don't take everything peripherally related t Steam down with them (even Valve's corporate site is gone.)

If it isn't DDOS, it is something catastrophic.

Yeah, it would seem to me that Early Access titles would be rather problematic.

Yes, but it's also an actual game you can play. Kotaku did a bit on it a couple weeks ago, looked hilarious (in a 12-year-old sort of way)

Playing Infinium Strike, starship defense (i.e. tower defense in space, where enemies come at you from the 4 cardinal directions at 3 different ranges, and you have to build turrets to take them down). Sure is pretty, and challenging enough even on easy. I got killed when I was on easy's "Mission 5" despite 3-star all previous 4 missions. When I won it, I only got 2/3 stars as I didn't leave enough money in the bank. Should have sold most of my turrets just before the end of the game, eh.

ABout ready to kill MS Security Essentials. It keeps popping up boxes with random things asking me if I want to send this to them that it may be a threat .And its always my pc games....some have been coexisting with it years and now all of a sudden its on some kind of annoy Daehawk crusade. Anything from paladins to Steam to Battlenet to Star Trek. Just totally random it seems. Ive told it NO repeatedly..Ive let it send it a few times. Still will randomly pop up asking. About to remove it.

I remember discovering mods and how much they added to games. Right now I dont recall if it was a Morrowind mod or an Oblivion one but 2 mods really changed the game for me for the better. One added windows that glowed with light from within at night. The other added weather sounds for inside. If it was raining you finally heard it. Really loved those two mods. Was just thinking about them as I was watching videos on new mods for Skyrim SE. Come so far but still today mods make a big difference.

It's been a couple of years since I played the original Skyrim but the new SE graphics are fantastic. I don't know if the gameplay has been tweaked or not. I'm playing my character a little different this time.
The 1/2 price got me.

While I like the idea of mods but I prefer to play games as the developer released them. If they suck like that I tend to walk away. I just want to experience the designer's and developer's vision for the game.

My son won't even load up games the first time without installing mods right away, so we have very different views on mods.

2016 might be the year that breaks my STEAM sale participation (in any realistic sense). A single AAA title (DOOM) is a 66 GB download. According to the download manager, that's 40 hours for me to grab. Which, I know - you're thinking ok, that's less than two days to start playing. Except it's not because with bandwidth limited my times for download need to be restricted to hours when the internets aren't being used for other purposes in the house. Like...say browsing or Netflix. I'm beginning to actually wonder where I can reasonably go with my laptop, leech a ridiculous transfer speed and then come home and sneakernet the files to my desktop. I was going to buy Overwatch but between DOOM and Arkham Knight...that's 100GB. Perhaps it's time to gain a new appreciation for small footprint indie titles.

If annual revenue for Valve is generally between $700 - $900 mil, I wonder what their profit is? I bet the margin is ridiculous.

Heh, I seem to remember Steam not doing that during the big sales. Kind of pointless at this point in time seeing as the prices aren't really changing during the sales anymore.

I agree. It's part of my appreciation of the medium as a skill over the diversion of graphics/gameplay.

That's why I use isthereanydeal.com where you can set the discount that triggers an email.

But yeah, I send the Steam sale emails to a different folder that I can usually ignore.

With the resurgence of Star Wars' popularity, it baffles me that there hasn't been any sort of action oriented Star Wars game since the awful "Force Unleashed" titles back in 2010. We really only have a mediocre MMO (SWTOR) and an MP shooter (SW Battlefield), with nothing for us single-player types to play except the Lego games (ok, but too "kiddie" for me), or stuff that's really old (KOTOR or Jedi Knight). After seeing Rogue One again, I just want the chance to go pew-pew a Stormtrooper or force-choke some poor Rebel sap.

Just think how awesome a cinematic Tomb Raider/Uncharted-style game set in the Star Wars universe could be. Or how much fun you could have in a Star Wars open-world, a la Shadows of Mordor. How are these not a thing?

Going retro a bit by playing the original Dark Forces. Looks really great running on the XL Engine, which adds HD resolutions and adds effects such as bloom among other things.

I'm actually the same way. Unless it is a simple texture upgrade (and those are rare), I rarely mod my games. Bethesda games are actually an exception, as part of the game is customizing the experience.

Got to disagree. The Unleashed games were a lot of fun with cool cutscenes and such. It was way overblown ya but was fun. And SWTOR is one of the greatest MMOs made....if you like solo play which i do.

But ya I would LOVE a Star Wars / Uncharted type game. I loved Republic Commandos and would really enjoy a sequel to that too. I like having a squad to order around that follows me and helps me out. I was really looking forward to both Star Wars 1313 and Prey 2 original because they were both space bounty hunter games. They both looked amazing.

Maybe I need to revisit the Force Unleashed games. I remember being frustrated with the first one for some reason and never trying the second because the general feedback was so negative. Oh look, they're currently $5 on Steam.

Even if they do suck, I won't be out much.

Ok, so playing Rebel Galaxy with a gamepad is definitely the way to go. Trying to play it with mouse & keyboard just left me confused. I got a Logitech F710 recently and out of all the games I've tried so far, this game has got the best implementation of vibration I've seen. Some modern games such as ETS 2 don't seem to really take much advantage of it even though it's the best selling wireless gamepad.

Finished Rebel Galaxy two weeks ago.

Finished Ace Combat Assault Horizons last week.

Playing Red Solstice. The instructions aren't making that much sense, esp. when it comes to special combat. Just finished mission 3, when it blah blah about using explosives to trigger the EMP generator. Tried multiple mines and whatnot, nothing worked. Then I "repaired" the EMP generator and without prompting, EMP fired and poof went the gunship without any timing. Gah!

Maybe I should be playing Satellite Reign...

2 hours spent so far on on the Fibonacci challenge on Human Resource Machine. still trying to figure out the exit criteria algorithm - i shouldn't be having such difficulty with this.. anyways, i seriously go into another world with this and TIS-100. i'll get so absorbed that hours just go by without me noticing.
