So the cardiologist says I really need to get in the habit of at least moving for a half hour straight every single day and hopefully can strengthen my cardio to the point where I can start doing something strenuous for a half hour straight every day.

I found my thing! I find an OO mentioned game that looks interesting and watch a half hour's worth Let's Play while pedaling but going nowhere. Because, while I don't really bore all that easy, when my objective is to repetitive thing x for a half an hour, I go nuts.

I looked it up too just for shits and grins...I saw them on 01-06-87 and then again on 03-29-87. It was the exact same show, with the exact same stage patter and shtick from both bands. I kinda liked Ratt at the time but we were mostly trying to cruise for chicks. I remember big hair and ripped jeans...

The show on 01-06-87 I got in trouble for going to. I told my parents I had to work that night and they dropped me off at my restaurant downtown where I washed dishes. My friend picked me up in a piece of shit car that he borrowed from somebody he worked with. The show was about 70 miles away and we had to pull over several times to add coolant and oil to keep the car running. We had to keep the windows down so we didn't choke on the exhaust.

I drove because my friend had already gotten a drunk driving charge even before he got his license. There was a bunch of booze under the seat that belonged to the owner that we weren't allowed to touch. We were just itching to get busted!

I got in trouble months later when my Mom found my ticket stub. Ironically I had to beg to get off being grounded so I could go see Ratt that second time. Told you I was a dopey kid!

Branched series Christmas light can bite me. Dog destroyed one loop. I didn't know they were branched until I was halfway into taking off that and the three working loops.

Why are you fooling with Xmas lights?

And I may have gone on the 21st...seems to be conflicting dates for it online.

Now if I EVER find out the date of that dang Star Trek convention with John De Lancie. I even asked him and he couldn't remember. Sigh.

Denver named 2nd best place to live in the U.S. - pretty cool. Austin took the #1 spot but I think I'd rather live in Colorado than Texas :D

Oh hell ya. Having lived in both places. Weather is generally better in Denver. WAAAAYYYYY fewer insects. Traffic, while getting worse in Denver, is nothing like the horrible traffic (and road design) in Austin. And then there are the allergies. Essentially, unless you really like warm weather (and humidity).... well, and maybe Mexican food. Austin definitely kicks Denver's butt in that department. (At least based on what's available around my area.)

They both have one of the strongest music scenes in the US, however, as much as SxSW has sold out the town, Austin still wins. (I've live in neither place)

My property taxes are ~$1800. For ~2500 sq. ft. on slightly less than <1/4 acre.

There are definitely other ways that Texas gets it's money out of you. (Cost of air conditioning?)

Also... see counterpoint above. :D

I'm not saying it's a slam-dunk case by any stretch.

We'll call the income tax / property tax difference as a draw. Denver sales tax is about 1% lower that we run here.

And as for the counterpoint, I don't have to shovel the heat, invest in hot weather tires, or worry about ice dams on the roof.

I've never been unable to get out of my driveway due to heat. Cost of living is higher in Denver. I'd love to be able to snowboard without flying or driving for a day, but it's irrelevant since my employer is in Dallas (and Richmond, VA :P).

Haven't had to get on a plane in 8 years. Haven't had to travel for work in over a decade. I have to attend a seminar in preparation for a rollout for looks like a "doing more with less" initiative. The first step is a mandatory reading of a 300 page book in my spare time before the seminar, that I've yet to receive. Trying hard to stay positive. But I really have become that cranky old guy that's going to tossed out on his ear for being a cranky skeptic.

Know this story from my wife. Just a little memory.

When her cousin was around 3 I think it was he had to get his tonsils out. So while in there the parents had them circumcise him too and get that done with a bit late. After surgery the nurse came to check on him and he asked her if she had had her tonsils out. She said yes she had and then he says "It sure does make your wee wee'r sore doesn't it?" :)

The saying around here has gone to "doing less with less". In other words, what services do you kick to the curb and stop supporting.

As someone who loves pasta, I approve this message.
According to a new study presented at The Obesity Society’s annual meeting in November, those who indulge in everyone’s favourite Italian staple tend to have healthier diets than those who don’t eat it at all.

But, there’s more.

Researchers from Nutritional Strategies, Inc. compared data collected from U.S. adults between 2001 and 2012 as part of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) and found that pasta eaters also tend to eat less saturated fat and added sugar.
Also, in comparison to their carb-shunning counterparts, those who eat pasta have a better intake of essential vitamins and minerals like folate and dietary fibre.

“Pasta can be an effective building block for good nutrition, as it serves as a perfect delivery system for fruits, vegetables, lean meats, fish and legumes,” says registered dietitian Diane Welland, Nutrition Communications Manager for the National Pasta Association.

“This analysis underscores the nutritional importance of grains, such as pasta, as consistent with a healthy diet.”

Started the required reading for our seminar initiative whatever. I am unimpressed by their ideas and would like to unsubscribe from their newsletter... but... It feels like the first time I'm doing back in school like things in ages and I'm really eager to discuss the ideas I'm reading about. How does it go? Something like The contents so far are both original and engaging but the problem is that was original wasn't very engaging and what is engaging isn't original at all.

I think my retreating into social media in lieu of spending an evening talking to people has really taken away from taking the time to really think about stuff and put it together in larger pictures, from really digesting and discussing stuff and being nearly 25 years out of the classroom as a student and over 20 as any sort of instructor, I've forgotten the joy of digesting new stuff.

Maybe I need to join a book club. Do people still have those?

I know how you feel. Last week our Chief Security officer sent out an email on Friday at 2:30 pm telling us that we had to reply by 5 pm saying that we could guarantee that there was no PHI on our computers.... or else.

Talk about an ant hill of activity...

Luckily I've only been there for a few months. I felt really bad for people that had been there for years. People were nuking years worth of emails because they couldn't be sure what was in them and didn't have time to go through them.
