Isn't this the basis of how the universal translator on Star Trek works?
Within a single group, we see a sentence with the same meaning but from three different languages. This means the network must be encoding something about the semantics of the sentence rather than simply memorizing phrase-to-phrase translations.

That was one to the two first albums I ever got. (Billy Squire's Don't Say No was the other)

So that means I understood something before either you or Smoove (Assuming Smoove didn't get the album between when it was released at whatever young age he would have been in 1981) and no one had to point it out to me.

Suck it!

Also, I saw Roger Hodgson a couple years back. He puts on a fantastic musical experience. He remains one of my favorites all these years later.

You should know that I a) never owned the album; b) have never seen the vinyl cover; and c) have probably never seen it any bigger than my phone screen.

Was in my first 10. I owned Greatest Hit on tape first. When I was ten, Aerosmith were my favorite. That lasted probably until I was sixteen or so and discovered there was music you never really heard on the radio and it was good.

I was like 7 in '81 and would have been 5 when the album was released. I didn't own that album, but I was aware of it (mainly the radio songs) so I did end up picking up the cassette (!) of ...Famous Last Words, which the Internet tells me was released in October of 1982. As a child I didn't realize what the cover of Breakfast in America was referencing (but I did want the OJ). It wasn't until some point in my teenage or young adult years that I even remember realizing all the buildings were dishes and cups and that yes, the waitress was the Statue of Liberty, viewed from outside the window of a plane. This was back when album cover art was still a thing. I can still remember visiting older cousins that had hundreds of albums and the best were hanging on their bedroom walls as decoration. They were the reason I knew anything at all about music and I actually wonder if they still have all that vinyl somewhere because their collection was ridiculous.

I still have 20-30 vinyl LPs and another three dozen 45s.
I sold most of them off back in the mid 80s. The 45s I mostly bought from a specialty place 20-25 years ago.

:coffee: Disney ditches Pewdiepie after anti-semitic stunt

Some of the above link:
Disney-owned Maker Studios has dropped YouTube star Pewdiepie over recent videos which contained Nazi jokes and anti-Semitic references.

In particular, Felix "Pewdiepie" Kjellberg received widespread criticism for a now-removed 11th January video where he paid two men to dance and then unfurl a sign which read "Death to all Jews".

Pewdiepie created the video to highlight Fiverr, a website where people can sell their services for $5. The video sees Pewdiepie choose the above phrase and then look visibly stunned when he indeed gets exactly what he paid for.

The video concluded with Pewdiepie apologising:

"So that's Fiverr. What an experience. Wow. I didn't expect that. I don't feel great about this. I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. I don't know what else to say."

When your autistic son who's not great at interpreting his body's signals gets the flu, you spend an inordinate amount of time sanitising and less time actually nursing him.

I am so done with body functions.

Shout out to all the nurses who have to deal with this on a daily basis.

I've adapted to the office office formal OK. It helps that they lock me away in my own isolated world but I've discovered that forcing me to walk the entire open office floor plan to get to the back corner of the world has a horrible consequence. I walk right past all of the sick young parents with their kids constantly getting their new form of sick and whereas it has been a good long time since I was getting scratchy throats and sniffles and ear pain, now I'm being forwarded minor plagues relatively regularly.

Something an open office is supposed to do, is give people the discretion to demonstrate their productivity from off site, isn't it? Keep your low level ick at home and work by VPN and report your woes to HR and let them sort it out. I have to be here, precisely so you are afforded the opportunity to work off site.

I fucking hate being sick. I figured when I left the clinics for private practice docs and my sickness rate dropped to zero that I was in the clear for like ever and I danced. It was the slow awkward dance of decrepit but I danced. Now I'm back in the pool with the germ factories.

I don't have an opinion on him prior to this, but if his quotes are correct, he just seems like an adolescent moron who sincerely regrets (although doesn't fully understand how this is on him) the results of his actions.

The only thing I ever liked from him was a daily vlog he did while in the US. I guess because it was normal. Everything else he has done seems totally stupid and immature so never cared for it. I cannot believe there are so many people who like plain old stupid in the world. I think everything he does is geared towards getting attention and thereby getting more money.

:coffee: a follow-up to the pewdiepie story ...

PewDiePie versus the media
.. How the most popular YouTuber in the world lost the ability to play the victim

some of it ...
PewDiePie, or Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg, is likely one of the most powerful individuals in gaming. His channel has over 53 million subscribers, and his videos have made him incredibly wealthy. Forbes estimated his earnings at approximately $15 million in 2016, making him the most successful personality on YouTube by far.

It’s part of what makes his anti-Semitic humor and use of Nazi imagery so hard to dismiss, and what likely forced Disney and YouTube to terminate or limit their relationships with him. But that’s only part of the story: Kjellberg is a young guy with a huge audience who loves laughing at his own messages about killing Jews, and he’s very upset the media isn’t willing to laugh along with him.

I remember seeing his name in an article about YouTubers making ungodly amounts of money. After that, I noticed him every time I saw one of his Let's Play videos show up in my feed. (I went through a phase of watching a lot of Let's Plays when deciding what games might be appropriate for my kids.)

I watched a few of them, and he's just inane. He rambles in a gratingly valley-boy voice and goes in without much understanding of what he's doing. Perhaps he's got a more polished format elsewhere, but the Let's Plays are just him figuring out a game's interface in real time.

He's a handsome guy, though, and that counts enormously when it comes to YouTube numbers.
