Re: Random randomness
I dreamed that I was in a Marvel movie -- or maybe it was Asians of Shield, I don't remember any superheroes but I did watch a couple episodes of that tv show before I went to bed. I was being chased by bad guys, and running uphill on a highway. I was too tired to reach the top, but there was a construction crew working so I ran to them. The construction supervisor was Stan Lee. He said his throwaway line, as he always does in Marvel movies, and I knew it was going to be alright.
His line was funny, and that's all I can remember.

Alright, if this isn't the first time he's made a "kill jews, ha ha, so funny" joke, then fuck him. Would be a real shame if he forgot to actually invest any of that money and he found himself looking for gainful employment with a giant "remember me? I used to make anti-semitic jokes on the internet" banner at the top of his resume wherever he goes.KDH wrote: a follow-up to the pewdiepie story ...

some of it ...PewDiePie, or Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg, is likely one of the most powerful individuals in gaming. His channel has over 53 million subscribers, and his videos have made him incredibly wealthy. Forbes estimated his earnings at approximately $15 million in 2016, making him the most successful personality on YouTube by far.
It’s part of what makes his anti-Semitic humor and use of Nazi imagery so hard to dismiss, and what likely forced Disney and YouTube to terminate or limit their relationships with him. But that’s only part of the story: Kjellberg is a young guy with a huge audience who loves laughing at his own messages about killing Jews, and he’s very upset the media isn’t willing to laugh along with him.

Got carry out at Captain Ds. They proved me right as when I got home instead of the 7 pieces I ordered and paid for there was only 5 in it. Also proved I gave up checking my orders when I should not have.

I remember the smell of card catalogs and remember them fondly. How long did ribbon typed cards need to age inside their oaken box with lubed slides to achieve their library in a container smell. Surely new inkless cards 2x3 cards didn't come with the odor prepacked.

I watched the University of Michigan dispose of its library card catalogs in 2000. It was necessary as there was no way for physical print records to keep up with the volume and searchability of electronic records.LordMortis wrote:I remember the smell of card catalogs and remember them fondly. The library sent the card catalog cabinets to be sold off at the warehouse where UM got rid of old furniture and appliances. When the day came, there was a line out the door, and all the cabinets were gone in an hour.

I have two card catalog cabinets. One, a smaller one, I'm going to use to hold tools/paints/minis in progress/that need to be painted. The larger one I'm going to use to store my painted minis and armies. If I was going to be completely honest, I should probably switch the two around, as I have away more unpainted lead than painted.Holman wrote:I watched the University of Michigan dispose of its library card catalogs in 2000. Prairie Belt vienna. If not for my wife I probably would never have tried these. Im not a fan of cheap vienna sausages. But last year while in the dollar store I passed them up for the millionth time and she grabbed some to try. She hates the normal Armour ones. Just smelling them makes her sick. SO we tried these. Man are they GOOD. Really good. Probably the best non extra flavored out there. I love them and they are my favorites now. In fact they are so good I dont even like mustard on them and I usually eat it on all vienna I have had over the years.
If you've seen this brand and just passed them on by I suggest you try them. Deeeelish.

My new favorite word.
Ionno - to display personal doubt or deflect the possibility of guilt.
Used in a sentence:
yaaaaa, Ionno bow da.
In conversation:
TheHell? Who thefuck ate all my cookies?
Ionno
In conversation it is also common to use a lazy speech contraction of Ionno, instead using the commonly understood I-u'u.

Re: Random randomness
Having read a couple hundred romances in the past few months, I find it interesting that a lot of them retread the same plot, and most of them require nothing more than "change of heart" to resolve the problem, which makes the book really lame. And a few of them are so bad or so lack of fact-checking one wonders if they actually have any test readers, or are their test readers completely ignorant of facts.
A novel is about a journey, about a hero (or heorine) meeting and defeating a problem that prevents him/her from achieving their goal. In romance, it is to win someone's love, often by resolving that person's problem, or resolving oneself's problem. But often the author does neither, but simply pile some random small problems or even NO problems in front of either male main character or female main character, then it's not a novel, but simply a narrative with no plot. Yet there are dozens of novels like this... Two characters meet and instantly they know they want each other, then engineer circumstances to meet each other, lots of meeting each other, then finally they kiss / fuck / whatever and declare they have to stay together. There was no STRUGGLE to stay together or even to fall in love. I'll give two examples.
Example 1: The book was scatter-brained, with plots all over the place. After a one-night stand, the girl got pregnant, and by chance she found the other guy's location and went to... confront him? Upon arrival, she claimed she only wanted him to know, but obviously he invited her to stay, while he figured out what to do with her. Then the book diverted to the guy's sister and her plans to go to college, and the girl's plan to go to art school... the book has no idea where it wanted to go, so it just added a bunch of different scenes and left a lot of plots up in the air.
Example 2: The book was marketed as second chance romance. He spent a week with a girl on the beach, but used a fake name, then he just left, leaving no way to contact, and obviously she was pregnant. Ten years later, she came as a date on someone else's arm to one of his family parties, which is where she learned his real name... He's rich, and she always wanted to acknowledge he's the father, and she... kinda wanted him back, so he proceed to woo her back, but really, why bother? There's no struggle here. Bleh!
Makes me want to write one. Hahahahaha!

You're one up on me. My memory of the romance novels is that their cover are looked a lot like choose your own adventure cover art. That was the extent of my "knowledge". I can't even remember where I saw those covers. I don't remember anyone actually reading them.

Harlequin Romance -type novels got started in 1950's and 60's as, basically, the original fan fic. They were decent imitations of soap operas slathered over with (depending the setting) poor imitations of Jane Austen.Kasey Chang wrote:Having read a couple hundred romances in the past few months, I find it interesting that a lot of them retread the same plot, and most of them require nothing more than "change of heart" to resolve the problem, which makes the book really lame. i think a sizeable percentage of most books are a bunch of bored individuals taking a stab at writing, regardless of one's talent at doing so. (in the case of small-press or self-publishing, this percentage reaches 100.) i wonder what kinds attract the most amateurs, hmmmm (thinks back to 12-year-old self and the self-penned giant-monster-attacks stories)

His name is Eugene, and he polishes the vats.
Unless you meant the root. In that case, it is probably lumped in under 'natural flavors', a catch-all that includes various flavorings that they don't want (and aren't required) to disclose, as it would give away their trademarked recipe.

Re: Random randomness
It depends on what you mean by 'natural.'
If you mean 'I can find it growing in the woods', then no. Not natural.
If you mean 'it comes from a natural source' as opposed to being entirely synthetic, then yes, it is natural. That may mean it has been extracted, distilled, condensed, or whatever, but began its life as an organic material.
Be careful googling this one, though. A vast majority of the sites you'll find are over-the-top health conspiracy sites that have as much in common with actual science as they do with winged pig-monkeys. I did a search out of curiosity, and probably 80% of the results were complete nonsense.
