Me too. I bought the Orange Box at Gamestop so I had access to the other content as well as long as I'd create a Steam account. If Gamestop knew what was going to happen maybe they would have banned the Orange Box from the storesCortilian wrote:My 1st Steam game was Half Life 2. Had to have steam to play it.

My joystick came in. Bought a used Thrustmaster T.FLight X ($25). The poor sod on Amazon paid $12.50 just to mail it. Poor guy. Seems it worked just fine. Will try it out in flight sims later.

Re: PC Gaming Randomness
I'm not sure of my Steam history. I thought I'd also bought it for the Half-Life 2 release, but that was in November of 2004, and I joined Steam in July of that year. My first activation was Half-Life: Platinum Pack. I have no idea what the story was. Perhaps they were giving it away as incentive to introduce people to Steam?
I didn't make my first actual purchase on Steam for several more years. Again, that was a decade ago, and I don't remember why. I'm going to guess that I still thought of Steam as an activation for store-bought games rather than as a storefront (as did most people.)

Re: PC Gaming Randomness
I'm pretty sure something happened where people who activated Half-Life 2 on Steam (as required) ended up with a variety of Half-Life titles appearing later, so there's no telling how it shows up in your history. I ain't looking' because it will probably break if I scroll back that far.

Wish I could list my games by date of activation or purchase.
Steam says April 28 2004.
The only thing I see offhand online for that exact date is a TF update.

Finished Remember Me. I had the combo lab pack so I was basically swapping combos as I need to... Swap in regen when I'm low on health, swap back the timer reduction when I need those special sensen powers. Those are good twists in the plot (not spoiling them), except I am surprised that the head of Memorize cannot get someone immunity, if it was that uber powerful.

Id love a way to see everyone's avatars over the years. I cant even remember what mine used to be. I know I changed it once. Guess that will never be. At least i can remember my online names since I started in 1994. Ive basically had 3.
EDIT: Whoa! Holy crap. I was looking up my old nicks and found where I was posting about Arcanum on the Terra Arcanum forum in 2001 as Daehawk. Only 14 posts but its a trip back. Awww the feels. Now I know when i was playing that game at least Just 16 years ago.

Slacker! I was working on my Masters *and* wondering if STEAM was the beginning or end of PC gaming as we know it.
But seriously, I can't believe how long ago that was. For some reason I can only go back to December of 2007 for my account with respect to purchases, and everything after November of 2012 is a wallet transaction.

Re: PC Gaming Randomness
Try to get started with one of the Freespace recommended mods with my newly acquired joystick. Dang, I'm horrible.
Furthermore, "Between the Ashes" mod REQUIRES a TKL keyboard... my existing small keyboard (no function row) is completely inadequate, as it gave several secondary objectives and allow me to press Function key to jump among the groups rather than scroll through large number of contacts... but my keyboard with no function row (have to press FN + Number) means I have to take hand off joystick. That won't do at all. ARGH.

Re: PC Gaming Randomness
Between the Ashes is a very sweet mod though. It has "news articles" and editorials and even a system map showing you progress you made in the game. It has you and your ship trying to navigate among pirates, the local civilian population and station militia, and the Hammer of Light trying to screw things up. You can't shoot civilians (until authorized), you have to go scan stuff, you have to protect stuff... messy. There's a TON of chatter among station, ship, and your squadmates. It makes regular FS/FS2 missions feel "sterile".
I better go pick on something else, unless I want to bring back my large keyboard.
Speaking of which, I found that I tend to twist my stick to the left, inducing a roll. I had to unmap the axis altogether.

And in Future PC Gaming Randomness (tm applied for), Kalypso teases a new Tropico game in 2018 (thanks to Blue's News). And (I can't find the link) we got further confirmation via someone advertising a T-shirt that the next Assassin's Creed will be set in ancient Egypt, which to me sounds like a dumb idea. I really, really was hoping for a Gilded Age (late 19th Century) New York City. You know, robber barons, JP Morgan, anarchists, Teddy Roosevelt. The thing would have just written itself

I worked one summer at Spectrum HoloByte (the Falcon place) back in the 90's.

Tried MotoGP, I think I really really suck at these road courses, even with track aid turned on. Hahahahaha. I suck at road courses even in cars. No patience in braking, probably.
Tried Offroad Drive. It's circuit racing with a twist... you have to manipulate 4WD controls while you drive. Lock differentials, change tire inflations, even use winches to help yourself. But in a weird game-decision, they decided to mark you off for 10 seconds every time you hit the edge of the course and knocked over a boundary pole. HEY! WTF?! It's an OFFROAD game!

I remember Spectrum HoloByte as a hard sim company when I drooled for a PC in the late 80s and early 90s. I didn't have a PC but wanted to play Falcon 3.0. I do have , played, finished, and loved their Star Trek games. Can still see their colorful little squiggly line in their logo in my head.

Any way to view inventory by date? Steam said it added some items but when I looked the items wouldn't load. Now they're gone. I don't know if it was a bug right from the start (i.e. there weren't any items) or if they were added but I just couldn't see them.

Re: PC Gaming Randomness
I found a way to see my games in order of purchase. Seems on that day in 2004 I got Half-Life Platinum Pack as a free gift from Steam. Musta been a way for them to start us on our Steam journey.
I found a few ways to view the games but all but one ended me at 2008 instead of 2004.
Anyways if you want to see you games ....from newest to oldest with no way to flip that...try this.
Keep in mind this will only show the ones you activated..if you bought it and never used it it wont show up. Both ways kinda suck. In one you can view your purchases but it wont go back to the start probably..mine stops at 2008. The other ..this one...only shows what you've activated but it seems to go all the way back in history.
Open your Steam app
click your name top right
go to account details
click View licenses and product key activations
And of course to see purchase history ...what little they show...click purchase history instead of licenses.
EDIT: I clicked this link https://store.steampowered.com/account/ And it shows how much Ive spent since 2004
Wish i knew how that shows it because with just checking my account I cant find that amount listing.
This is me supposedly. I dont recall in game purchases like that or the market which I hardly ever use.
Store Purchases: $1,882.63
Gift Purchases: $207.01
In-Game Purchases: $60.27
Market Transactions: $77.71
Total Spent: $2,227.62
The gift purchases are all our OO Xmas Im betting.

That's because it's not regular Steam. You have "Enhanced Steam" Chrome extension loaded when you go through the browser, but not with regular Steam client. The extension did the calculation for you.Daehawk wrote: Wish i knew how that shows it because with just checking my account I cant find that amount listing.

Gotta say when I install a game its a little weird to install to G drive. its cool as in G for Games ya. But I started in 1994 with nothing but A B and C and C was the HD where everything was. Then came D with the CD drive. Then one year I had E drive for games for the longest. This time its G. I have no F..it skipped it or I made it G for Games. Heck if I remember . But C was the thing for SO long. Im old.

My drive naming scheme was a little weird but fits my circumstances.
I started with C:, of course.
with DVD on D:
I bought an external for backup, that became E:
When I found my laptop has a second drive bay, that became F:
As for now I have no G:
But right now, I'm on my 2nd C: (upgraded to SSD) and 3rd E: (two dead externals)

Yeah, the atmosphere is pretty incredible in that game. The setting is actually perfect and I can't believe a GTA-style game hadn't been done in that matter before. It's something I feel Rockstar should do, maybe go back in time a bit and explore other time periods. Can you shoot while driving?
I'm playing on a gamepad and I had to delete settings for "other gamepad" in order for it to work properly, as apparently it likes to run the two profiles at the same time, causing conflicts. In this case, the camera would spin around while driving because of how the buttons were mapped in the "other gamepad" settings.

Re: PC Gaming Randomness
I remember its release but had forgotten about it. Wasn't interested then but now I am. It isn't on Steam and GoG wants $20 for a 8 year old game.Rumpy wrote:Started playing The Saboteur last night. I can't believe I hadn't heard of this game until recently. I bought it on GOG about two weeks ago which is when I first heard of it. I like that the vehicles feel weighty, and the gameplay is quite fun.

Enjoyed it quite a bit when it came out, played it on my PS3 with the oh-so-naughty Day One Free Nudity DLC.Madmarcus wrote:I love that game! Nope, it takes them time and they actually travel. The reason it seems that way is that when you fast travel, the game also makes that time pass for you.Daehawk wrote:Didn't want to read so watched the video. Pretty cool. As far as I can remember if you fast travel then then the game will insta move stuff. So if he had just teleported home DM would be there. But thats cool to follow him. I wonder if he went into a store if DM would poof?Pyperkub wrote:This story of a dog and his guardian angel in Fallout 4 is pretty cool: Dogmeat's Journey Home

Heh, that's funny. I hadn't even noticed there was even any in it until I happened to go into the option menu and saw the toggle..

It may not be as impressive, but I got the Little Rocket Man achievement in HL 2 Episode 2. That was a chore, but it was a worthwhile experience to play the game in such a weird way.JetFred wrote:If I haven't said it before, I just wanted to say that the first time I beat Half-Life 1, I played the whole game with a flight stick.
