I don't want to start a new thread because the subject is pretty damn nasty, but maybe it deserves one.

This article outlines how police worked together internationally to take down 3,000 to 4,000 child sex offenders on the dark web. The site had a million registered users, but only a few thousand were active. Only a few thousand. Unwitting media outlet digging for dirt on the site hosting it discovers it's a police booby trap and sit on the story until it breaks.

I just don't even. First, that people do. Second that people enjoy. Third that cops have to pretend to. Fourth that the news has to chase it. Everyone on the "legal" side of this fence has s##t in their heads that years of therapy can't cure, and the other side should just be shot off into space towards the sun. Other, clean sites use a lot of people to filter the content we see, and these folks get burned out in months. They monitor people and watch for signs of stress. I can't imagine a job like that. Hell. No.

But someone has to, right? Can't let it go unchecked. Can't let it slide. It makes me hate people sometimes.

One of the reasons I shy away from consulting on child porn cases these days. I can't even go into writing about it because I know it will cause me to recall images I hope to never recall again.

My friend's wife is some sort of specialized Postal Inspector with the USPS, and her job is basically to catch these type of child porn and sex trafficking lowlifes. Some of the stories I've heard have been absolutely sickening, and I have no idea how she's done the job for 20+ years.

I've asked her a couple times how she still does it and her answer is always the same: she feels a responsibility to help the kids who are caught in these webs. Said no matter how horrific the things she sees are, she knows that these kids have no chance unless someone like her is willing to try and chase these assholes down. I can't help but have the utmost respect for what she does, even if I have no idea how she can do it.

My sister is in Child Protective Services, and she describes her job the same way. She has often been part of the first team into an abuser's residence, right after the cops bring the handcuffs.

She's tough as nails, and I don't know how she does it, but she is close to her 20th career year at it.

Mrs. Skinypupy and I went to see "Princess Bride" in the theater today. TMC is showing it as part of their "classic" series, and this year is the 30th (!) anniversary of the film. The theater was packed (a rarity on a Sunday in Utah) with every demographic you can imagine. There was a whole group of young kids sitting behind us who were seeing it for their first time, and they absolutely loved it.

What a blast.

Many Jeopardy! champs have won by a dollar, but only one other time in our history did a contestant actually win with a single buck.

In 1993, Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Darryl Scott found himself at the finish of the Double Jeopardy! round one dollar ahead of returning champ Nancy Melucci. Although his fellow competitor Kate Marciniak was still a factor in the game, Darryl went for the win. “Boy, you guys are gutsy today,” Alex Trebek observed about the all-or-nothing wagers before revealing Darryl’s final response. No one came up with the correct Final Jeopardy! question, but at the end of the game, Darryl was left standing with a dollar.

On today’s show, Manny Abell was faced with a different situation. A strong returning champ who found himself in a distant third place at the end of the second round of play, he faced two strong competitors tied for first place. Whatever his wagering strategy was, it worked out, and when the dust cleared, no one looked more surprised than Manny – except for maybe Alex.

There are a couple of takeaways from a game like this one. First, a Jeopardy! champ is a Jeopardy! champ. Once you’ve earned the title, no one can take it away from you. Next, Manny had a running total of $42,798 coming into today’s game and unlike his competitors, he gets to come back tomorrow and try again, just like Darryl did (he took home another $13,401 after his second game).

Wikipedia for "faggot" is a decent source for this.

"Gay" is pretty straightforward. In the 19th/early 20th century its sense of "happy/uninhibited/unencumbered" became a euphemism for "living for pleasure." Sophisticated homosexuality was thought to aspire to a hedonistic lifestyle, and there you go.

Something tried to dig up my little dog last night.
I'm pretty sure it wasn't any of my other dogs.
It had removed some of the stones and arranged them in a circle around the grave and removed some of the soil.
I don't think coons are carrion eaters. I do have an armadillo that lives under the house but they're just insect eaters, Atho he could have been looking for insects.
