Somewhat, sure. But the characterization by Trump is of course ridiculous. Not that that's surprising.

And as we all know, the market is an accurate representation of how things are for low and middle income families. Certainly has nothing to do with the knowledge that virtually all of these tax savings are going to be passed directly to shareholders instead of employees.

Uhhh...please don't let this be even remotely true:
The White House and CIA have been considering a package of secret proposals to allow former US intelligence officers to run privatized covert actions, intelligence gathering, and propaganda missions, according to three sources who’ve been briefed on or have direct knowledge of the proposals.

One of the proposals would involve hiring a private company, Amyntor Group, for millions of dollars to set up a large intelligence network and run counter terrorist propaganda efforts, according to the sources. Amyntor’s officials and employees include veterans of a variety of US covert operations, ranging from the Reagan-era Iran–Contra affair to more recent actions in Iraq and Afghanistan.

...

Another proposal presented to US officials would allow individuals affiliated with the company to help capture wanted terrorists on behalf of the United States. In keeping with that proposal, people close to the company are tracking two specific suspects in a Middle Eastern country, the sources said, for possible “rendition” to the United States.

The Dow just broke 24,000 for the first time (another all-time Record). If the Dems had won the Presidential Election, the Market would be down 50% from these levels and Consumer Confidence, which is also at an all-time high, would be “low and glum!”
I'd love to know where he gets the idea that the stock market would be down 50% from these levels if Hillary Clinton would elected, other than his own delusion.
IMHO, the 50% corporate rate tax cut prospect is currently what's driving the Dow jump to 24k+. I think it would still be around 22k without that getting priced into investment decisions. Of course, that value has nothing to do with the economy overall, but it sure is helping the shareholders.

I certainly don’t want either to be the case, as I know a small part of the pain that it will bring, but it seems to be the only way that some semblance of sane leadership is going to regain control.

I'm sort of the same way, in the hope that it will sweep DC clean of Trump's swamp. But I'm really pessimistic. There have been too many examples of people seemingly not giving a damn what happens to them due to bad government policy. "I lost my healthcare and my job? Oh well, I guess that's just the cost of living in America. At least we don't have Hillary exposing national secrets through her private email server!"

Trump has been riding on the successes of the Obama years. It's going to end. And sooner than that dipshit thinks. The inevitable finger pointing and scapegoating that's going to happen when that day comes will be monumental. There's zero chance that this idiot has even the smallest amount of leadership capability in him to own up to any faults and try to fix them. It will be firing after firing after firing, and hourly tweets about his enemies being to blame.

At some point, the Trump supporters will either have to admit they support him because they are actually racist shits, or wake up and realize he's a child who will destroy the last shred of dignity the office of POTUS holds.

The problem with being a pathological liar is that it gets *really* tough to make people believe you when you REALLY need them to believe you. Have fun watching your Presidency crumble around you as your family, friends, and associates are carted off to prison you loathsome orange fuck.

Remember when you were a kid and you told mom one lie, then it spun into another to cover the first, then it needed into a third, and then a fourth...and by the time you were done, you told so many lies that you literally couldn’t keep any of them straight and got totally busted as a result?

This feels just like that, except with the supposed leader of the free world.

Yes - and he is the kid who does it all the time so you absolutely can't trust him. Unfortunately he also has his finger on the button that can end the world so you have to pretend to respect him somewhat. :grund:

Even scarier - 71% of Alabama Republicans believe the Moore accusations were made up and perpetuated by the Democrats/media.

I just don't get the complete lack of critical thinking in this country. To believe this is a conspiracy you have to believe:

1. Multiple separate women had to be coerced into going public with embarrassing allegations, putting their reputations on the line on the national stage.

2. Multiple third party folks such as former police officers had to be persuaded to go public supporting the allegations of Moore's shady reputation.

3. These people put all this on the line to give a Democratic challenger a small chance to win the Senate in historically ultra-conservative Alabama.

Seriously?

The problem isn't that these people are stupid. Deep down they know Moore is a pervert. But their self-denial abilities are through the roof.

It is possibly part stupid and part fantasy thinking. I just started reading Fantasyland: How America Went Haywire: A 500-Year History. Some critics claim he did a remarkable job tying together an argument that there is an underlying American pathos at play. It has been a good read so far and is potentially pretty fascinating. Yet also a little depressing since--as far as I understand it based on a partial reading--it implies this condition is hard-wired.

Edit: Also the above. :)

Axios
John Dowd, President Trump's outside lawyer, outlined to me a new and highly controversial defense/theory in the Russia probe: A president cannot be guilty of obstruction of justice.

The "President cannot obstruct justice because he is the chief law enforcement officer under [the Constitution's Article II] and has every right to express his view of any case," Dowd claims.

Dowd says he drafted this weekend's Trump tweet that many thought strengthened the case for obstruction: The tweet suggested Trump knew Flynn had lied to the FBI when he was fired, raising new questions about the later firing of FBI Director James Comey.
...
Remember: The Articles of Impeachment against Nixon began by saying he "obstructed, and impeded the administration of justice."
It's almost as if people are the problem.
