If he does, it doesn't bode well for the Republican party.
Moore is a uniquely bad candidate, so at least *some* of the closeness of the race is due to him and not the Republican brand. Regardless, the Republican brand is also in the shitter, so it is going to be rough for the GOP.
And yet, the RNC just decided to the their brand directly to moore.

Other issues arise from the fact that lawmakers are mostly skipping the custom of having a transitional period between current tax rules and the new ones, in order to give the public time to adjust to the changes.

Time Person of the Year: Silence Breakers
Time magazine is featuring "silence breakers," a group the magazine identified with some familiar faces behind the #MeToo movement and at least one that is obscured, as 2017's Person of the Year.

The focus is on those who triggered a #MeToo national outcry over sexual harassment.

"This is the fastest-moving social change we've seen in decades, and it began with individual acts of courage by hundreds of women, and some men, who came forward to tell their own stories of sexual harassment and assault," Time editor-in-chief Edward Felsenthal said Wednesday on TODAY when making the reveal. "The image you see partially on the cover is of a woman we talked to, a hospital worker in the middle of the country who shared her story with us and some others but doesn't feel like she can come forward without threatening her livelihood."

Franken appears to be doomed. By last count four senators (all democratic women) have called on him to resign. There's a new accuser. I imagine the Time "Person of the Year" thing doesn't help him either.

If he does resign Minnesota's governor (a democrat) would appoint his replacement until the next election, which would be November 2018.

Probably for the best, as much as I like Franken generally. Going to be a little disheartening when they wind up swearing in Franken's replacement at the same time that they're swearing in Roy Moore, though.

Exactly. It will be hard for the GOP to claim to have the moral high ground when Democrats have a senator resign due to accusations of groping while the GOP is swearing in a senator accused of pedophilia and attempted rape.

Of course, since the GOP has no shame, I'm sure they'll still claim to be the party of family values.

Are you suggesting that because they have a jewish editor the article doesn't exist? Or that the jewish conspiracy they are touting must truly exist and therefore is not racist because an organization with a senior jewish editor would never make up random shit to promote their agenda?

Seriously, what's your argument?

Maybe it's that breitbart is not inherently racist, it only publishes racist stuff in order to exploit other peoples' racism to promote their political objectives? This somehow makes it less offensive because the racism isn't really in the "heart" of the organization?

Try. Harder.
Where? I have searched all over Breitbart for this article that say there is a jewish conspiracy in Alabama to no avail. Sounds like someone is taking something they said and adding the jewish part to it.
I too tried to find it before responding but could not. I have no good explanation for why I can't. Some possibilities are that I conflated 2 separate articles that google search brought to my attention, that I was reading breitbart, infowars and articles on Moore's comments all at once I mixed up who said what about who.

Since I can no longer find the information I was referring to, I withdraw my comments re: breitbart and infowars pushing racism in Alabama.

Whether it was my mistake or something else has occurred, without corroborating evidence I am left with less concrete evidence than I demand from you, so I back off my claims.

I can totally understand some racist charges being thrown at some of these sites (although disagreeing with it) but the frequent anti-semitic accusations are almost always deflecting dog whistles. It plays well with all the people that love screaming Nazi while applauding the numerous actual anti-semites out there who would like to destroy Israel and kill any jews living there.

I'm sure we all remember Kim Davis, the vile county clerk in KY who became a conservative martyr after denying gay couples their marriage licenses? One of the men she wouldn't give a license to is running for her job.
David Ermold will return to the Rowan County courthouse Wednesday, nearly two years after Clerk Kim Davis refused to give him a marriage license because he was gay.

Only this time, he does not want a license. He wants Davis' job.

Ermold filed to run for county clerk on Wednesday, hoping to challenge the woman who two years ago told him "God's authority" prohibited her from complying with a U.S. Supreme Court decision that effectively legalized gay marriage nationwide. Ermold and others sued her, and Davis would spend five days in jail for disobeying a federal judge's order. She emerged to a rapturous rally on the jailhouse lawn, arm-in-arm with a Republican presidential candidate as a newly crowned martyr for conservatives.
Please let this happen. :csmile:

I love how Roy Moore surrogates keep implying that 1979 was a "different time" and that a 32 year-old dating a 16 or 14 year-old was somehow acceptable and normal and pure as the driven snow.

Dude, I was there. 1979 Alabama was Lynyrd Skynyrd and Donna Summer and Charlie's Angels. We knew it exactly what it meant when an old perv was chatting up high school girls at the mall.

My takeaway from that: Roy “Laredo” Moore’s spokesbeast literally started out saying: “He wants to put out a welcome mat in front of these young girls. If you are a jr high school girl or a high schoolgirl....”

Now that is misleading because I didn’t show the rest of that sentence, but STILL, if Moore has any brains at all, he’s gotta be facepalming at that point, no matter the context.

Not sure how Cooper didn’t at least smirk when that came out of her mouth. Pretty sure I would have had to say “yes, we are aware of his predilection for young girls, but thanks for reiterating. Now if you could just answer my question...”

(Wasn't sure where to put this, so it'll go here.)

Well, this is certainly horrible. Gorsuch argues that civil rights training is unconstitutional.

Gorsuch’s startling proposal arrived midway through arguments, as Colorado Solicitor General Frederick Yarger defended the state’s civil rights commission. Yarger was attempting to explain why Colorado’s treatment of Jack Phillips, the baker, did not run afoul of his rights to free speech or free exercise of religion. Gorsuch jumped in with “a quick question about the remedy” that Colorado imposed on Phillips after finding that he had violated state nondiscrimination law.

Gorsuch, with a look of grave concern, said: "As I understand it, Colorado ordered Mr. Phillips to provide comprehensive training to his staff, and it didn’t order him to attend a class of the government’s own creation or anything like that, but to provide comprehensive staff training."

Why isn’t that compelled speech and possibly in violation of his free-exercise rights? Because presumably he has to tell his staff, including his family members, that his Christian beliefs are discriminatory.

Yarger, who seemed befuddled by the question, responded honestly, telling Gorsuch that “a training requirement is a common remedy that is used in many civil rights cases.” The justice, however, pressed on.

“But this isn’t attending your training, Mr. Yarger,” Gorsuch said. “This order was ordering him to provide training and presumably compelling him to speak, therefore, and to speak in ways that maybe offend his religion and certainly compel him to speak.”

By this point, Yarger looked genuinely alarmed. And rightfully so: Gorsuch had essentially declared that a law which requires managers to teach their employees about the requirements of nondiscrimination law violates the First Amendment. If that’s true, then a wide range of civil rights law is at least partly unconstitutional. Many of these statutes obligate employers to inform workers of their duties under state and federal law. That includes training on discrimination: Supervisors must instruct employees not to engage in harassment, unlawful refusal of service, and a broad range of identity-based mistreatment.

Gorsuch’s theory would hobble this nondiscrimination regime by preventing the government from directing employers to tell employees about their rights and responsibilities under law. And for good reason: A hotel supervisor who believes that interracial relationships are sinful could refuse to tell her employees that they must let mixed couples book rooms. A restaurant manager with spiritual objections to interfaith marriage could decline to train her employees in their legal duty to serve customers without regard to religion. According to Gorsuch, these employers hold a First Amendment right not “to speak in ways that maybe offend [their] religion.” Thus, they must be excused from telling their employees about civil rights law to which they object.
More damage done every day.

That doesn't change the non-discrimination laws, however. Not training your staff just leaves you wide open for more lawsuits. *If* this becomes the standard, he'll have to attack the non-discrimination laws next, otherwise he's just made it more likely that companies will violate the law and be sued.

Should be interesting where he goes next.

What does this do to things like OSHA? Is that training government provided or is it just required, as per the non-discrimination laws?

It's against my religion to train my staff on workplace safety so fuck you, government overreach? Hilarious.

A Maltese investigative journalist who had exposed her island nation's links with the so-called Panama Papers document leak was killed on Monday when a bomb destroyed her car as she was driving near her home, Malta's Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said.
BBC
Three men have been charged with the murder of Maltese investigative journalist and blogger Daphne Caruana Galizia.

Brothers George and Alfred Degiorgio, aged 55 and 53, and Vincent Muscat, 55, all pleaded not guilty.

They were also accused of possession of bomb-making material and weapons.
...
On Monday, police arrested 10 Maltese nationals in connection with the murder. Police operations took place in the town of Marsa, and the Bugibba and Zebbug areas.
Times of Malta
Police believe evidence gathered during the investigation into the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia could help crack previous car bombing cases, the Times of Malta has learnt.

Investigators who led the inquiry into the murder said the raids in Marsa, Żebbuġ and Buġibba carried out on Monday had yielded mobile phones and SIM cards, among other items of evidence, that they believe could be linked to previous car bombings.

“We are going to use the same methods and technology to work backwards and see if this evidence leads us back to other serious crimes. We are confident this could be the case and hope this could be a watershed moment for us in these investigations,” the sources said.

The island has seen a string of five car bombs, aside from the one which killed Ms Caruana Galizia, in just over two years, with none being solved so far.
...
Sources yesterday told the Times of Malta the car bomb that killed Ms Caruana Galizia was triggered by an SMS sent from a cabin cruiser out at sea.

Investigators said one of the accused was believed to have sent the fatal SMS from on board the vessel registered in his name.

He sent the fatal text after allegedly being given the go-ahead from someone who was staking out the Caruana Galizia residence in Bidnija.

The third man charged in the murder is believed to have been a lookout from another vantage point.

“This boat was all part of their plan, which they planned out for some time, to throw any investigators off the scent. Luckily they did not manage, and we are very confident in the case we have against them,” the sources said.

The police hope to pull DNA and GPS evidence from the boat to help them.
