Wish I had this stuff as a kid. I did have many slot sets over the years. Dad raced with me a lot. I had one car about the size of a shoebox that was my brothers and he did hang out in those shady slot car places lol. I never got to try them but I know the building they were in . its still there...the building not the tracks. And my train track was on a plywood square :)

They were considered shady establishments, on a par with pool halls. If they still exist at all, I imagine the technology has grown up considerably from what I remember.

I never got into that larger scale, but I did eventually get a nice HO slotcar set one Christmas, and had an elaborate track permanently set up on a large sheet of plywood.
Growing up in the UK, Scalextric was always the go-to brand for British slot car racing.

From the looks of it, they're still going strong even in today's day and age.

Chicago radio station 97.9 The Loop has been sold to a Christian broadcasting company.

I'm really hoping this means Mancow has to move out of state.

It's not that I listen to the Loop for more than 15 minutes per month, but it's going to be very weird to not have rawk music playing on 97.9. It's been more or less the same format for 40 years.

Getting rid of Mancow is a nice benefit, though.

Took me by surprise, I will say. Apparently they're planning to turn it into an "educational broadcasting network". :?

Every time I forget some random fact (i.e., an actor's name, the name of a familiar song, the name of a former co-worker/friend/ex) my first thought is: early onset Alzheimer's.

With every ache and pain my first thought is: I've got cancer.

Yesterday I started into Burger Chef history and ended up deep into fast food history when I remembered Burger King and Star Wars glasses. I got one and I think it was Luke. This was around 1980 I think. I got to use it there and once at home and it shattered to hell the first time in the dish washer. Thin POS. I wish I had it though :P They came in sets of 4 but I only got the one.

I've got the complete sets of four BK Star Wars glasses from all three original movies.

I've also still got the original 12 action figures and display stand.

I really should sell off all this stuff instead if dragging it with me every time we move.

Car ran out of gas while waiting at a red light. Put the hazards on. Called AAA.

Within 15 minutes 7 people stopped and asked if I needed help. One guy gives me his light reflector vest and a good sized flashlight to direct traffic away from my car. He ends up helping me push the car half a block to a driveway to get it off the street.

Most people are good and want to help.

Ive got so much to do when the warmth of spring arrives. A few....

Repair my thrice cut outdoor extension cord with a new plug thereby making it at least 5' shorter lol.

Clear the back yard of 7 years of growth. Clippers / axe/ chainsaw required.

Clean out car of 4 years of trash buildup.

Clean windows

Repair leaking pipe/s

And lots of others. Having bad health AND no money is hell in more ways than one.

I have a little tiny Purell hand sanitizer bottle I carry in my pocket. Over time you'd think this type of plastic would dry or crack or something. But Ive carried it since about 1995! Unbelievable isn't it? I keep it refilled and still use it with no leaking. The sticker on it has slide around and sometimes is upsidedown but it hasn't come off. Was just thinking about and remarking to my wife how long Ive had it. I can remember being in the mall in my 20s and having this same little bottle. Amazing.

So, pork rinds to the rescue.

For the first time since my dad passed away nearly four years ago, one of my friends' parents has died. Prior to my dad we had to go back to the late '90s for such a close loss in my social circle (not counting grandparents and in-laws). Aside from it stirring up emotions about my father, I feel particularly bad because I probably won't be able to attend any services. While I've only met my friend's mother a handful of times, I've known my friend for over twenty years and should be there. Sigh.

Lots of full auto gunfire across the street. Sounds like they went through 3 or 4 30 round magazines wide open. The police chief lives across from me. Sounded like a bumpstop wep. Kinda slow for a true full auto but too fast and rhythmic for semiauto finger pulling.
