Do you have AGP or PCI-E
Nvidia just said they have no plans to make an AGP version of their new card. Not that I was planning on running out to get one, I thought maybe in a year or so if I needed it to extend the life of my rig. Alas I have an AGP system. So I was wondering how prevelent PCI-E is allready.

I notice however that you let the topic on Nvidea's new graphics card stay in pc gaming in general.
Interesting to see on a site that caters to fairly serious and dedicated gamers most people are still using AGP which is what I thought. I wonder why nvidea is limiting their market unless engineering for AGP would be that much more expensive.
Edited because I'm an idiot.

AGP because I'm comfortable with it.
I'm not an early adopter, and while PCIE is not 'early' anymore, I'm going to wait until it's been a bit more tried-and-true. Oh, and I'll wait until it's significantly faster too.
Hell, I'm using 'old' tech all-around on my newest rig, and I'm blowing through games in grand style-and cheaply.

AGP right now but I haven't needed to upgrade yet. I'm pretty maxed out though on the current system. 3400+/9800XT. The next step would need to be an AMD 64 chipset, the only thing I am worried about are all of these SLI vs Crossfire chipsets. It is going to make future proofing my systems much harder.

Here's a cut and paste because I'm feeling lazy. My old one started acting up this week, and after 3 years I just got fed up and made an impulse buy. Sure, it's only got 5.1 and the video card is not a GT or Ultra, but it'll work for me 8)Greg Wak wrote:OOh ceekay a new rig! Whatcha getting?

Hell, 5.1 is too much for me.Greg Wak wrote:Ceekay funny to hear you say"only 5.1". Sure there's higher but there are alot of players that are not even up to 5.1.
I'm still running 2.1 (happily I might add).

Actually currently I'm 2.1 or headphones. I'd get a 5.1 speaker system but with my current computer space a 5.1 setup would not be really viable.Giles Habibula wrote:Hell, 5.1 is too much for me.Greg Wak wrote:Ceekay funny to hear you say"only 5.1". I should add that while I'm currently very happy with my AGP 8X setup, it's simply because my machine is maxed out as far as it can go right now, and works perfectly with no crashes that way. It's perfectly balanced.
So my next option is a complete new machine in a year or two.
By which time I cannot currently predict what my options will be by then...but doubtlessly I'll have fun building it...That's the best part...Building, first boot, tweaking, and balancing components. And more tweaking. Gaming is *almost* secondary.

I used to be just like that, GH. Then, I bought a laptop for gaming/mobility and I don't do much tweaking at all. I spend more time gaming now than tweaking which I never did before. Part of it is that I have kids now so there is less time for gaming and for tweaking. Something had to give. Unfortunately, both gave a little bit.
