It's pretty amazing as a piece of art. Even if you don't like the music style you can respect what he is saying and how it comes through the medium.

To me it really conveys a sense of the chaos and violence that is behind a thin veneer of civility. It also gives a sense of how under siege a black person in America feels. Maybe it applies to white people too but I get the sense it's more the black experience that is being conveyed (full disclosure, I'm neither black nor American).

The whole thing feels... significant.

I dodged that video for a couple of days, despite every part of the internet trying to get me to watch it, then my wife sits down on the second computer and starts watching it. I resigned in defeat and watched it with her.

I did not watch it closely or with much attention. I liked what I saw, but I don't think I'm completely onboard with the rest of the world's impression of it.

Here's something you don't see everyday.......

Amazing timing on this. I have never watched the Good, the Bad and the Ugly before, and I was channel surfing this past week and stumbled across it in mid-movie. I watched it for about an hour (so I've now watched the middle of the movie) and kept wondering to myself how much of the Waah, waah was vocals and how much was instrumental. There are times when it is clearly a choir singing, but other times that it blends into the instruments enough that I couldn't figure out if it was a singer or just cool musical effects.

I've also always wondered if the whistling parts of various songs where done with an instrument, machine, computer or an actual human being who is just a fantastic whistler. I can't whistle a tune, and mostly just whistle loudly and shrilling using my fingers, so whistling has always been a bit of a mystery to me. Amazing that some people can whistle so well, reliably and skillfully that it is like adding another instrument to the mix. Very cool.

It's extremely funny to me to see a professional singer singing "waah, waah" and nothing else (obivously she is doing the whistling too). It just seems so beneath her.

It also seems somewhat humiliating for the percussionist as well, slapping those two 1x4s together every once in awhile.

So yeah, I just had all these questions in passing as I watched the movie, and some of them were answered by the posted video.

I realize an orchestra often has to improvise when doing things like this, as the tools used in the studio don't make for a great live performance, so the video might not be exactly what the soundtrack is. It's all very cool though.

I've always found the Simpsons theme song a cappella (Italian spelling is the correct one over the Latin, I guess? Had to look it up) to be awesome as well.

Heres something unique. You've seen tons of old black and white films of the olden days but this one from 1934s New York City's lower east side has actual sound recorded with it. When they are silent you think its so cool and serene. But hearing it with sound makes you rethink that. Also the sound isn't the greatest but its 1934 remember.

Also I like that 5 oranges are 5 cents to 11 cents depending on quality
