Re: Random randomness
Twins had their 4 year old checkups over the weekend. Turns out the boy has a hernia (and it's really obvious in retrospect). We'll see a specialist soon, but looks like surgery. Pretty straightforward, and it's not like we don't have experience with kids getting surgery, but it's still always worrisome when a kid goes under for surgery.

I had a double hernia surgery when I was 9.
That's when I learned about how bad hospital food was.
I also found out they sewed my stomach to my upper legs and I couldn't stand up straight.

A Colorado woman awoke to a nightmare last week.
After purchasing a new, front-loading washing machine, Lindsey McIver was woken by her 4-year-old son crying so hard he could barely speak.
In her heartfelt Facebook post, McIver said "As I was trying to understand what he was saying, my husband flew out of bed and down the stairs. It was then that the realization hit. He had said: Kloe. Inside. Washer. "

Sam's Club adds Polish hot dogs to menu after Costco scraps them
Sam's Club just scored a major victory in the hearts, and stomachs, of many consumers.
After Costco sparked a national backlash after news broke last week that the chain planned to cut the Polish frank from its food-court menu, bulk retailer rival Sam’s Club stepped in and announced it would add the item to all of its café menus.
About 200 Sam’s Club locations already sell the quarter-pound Polish dogs, but now they will be offered at 99 cents each at all locations beginning July 23 “so people everywhere can get their fix,” the company said in a statement.
"You don’t have to be a Sam’s Club member to dine in the café," it noted.

You can also go to the pharmacy without a member card.
Also, even though they usually check for membership cards at the door, it's simple to get in without having one. The real issue is that aside from things like the snack bar and pharmacy, they will require the member card when making any other purchases.

As a matter of fact, I'm heading for Costco pharmacy in an hour. My "local" pharmacy is KILLING me. I'm between insurance at this time, and my local pharmacy wants $55 a month for basic stuff. I don't know how much Costco would charge me, but it should be substantially lower.
EDIT: Got 3 month supply of my meds for $114. That's basically 33% savings.

We will be changing insurance on the first of the month. We will be covered but I have been "warned" that cards could be 30-60 days away. I don't need anything but we will probably have to pay out of pocket for my wife's drugs for at least a month, that could mean several hundred dollars.Kasey Chang wrote: ↑Tue Jul 17, 2018 10:44 am As a matter of fact, I'm heading for Costco pharmacy in an hour. You may be able to get temporary cards on your insurance company's website. Also, the pharmacy should be able to just call the insurance company directly and verify your coverage using your SSN or something.Scuzz wrote: ↑Tue Jul 17, 2018 12:51 pm We will be changing insurance on the first of the month. The Kirkland Polish Dog hadn't been available at the CostCo fastfood stands here for a few years. It was replaced with the Italian Sausage and that exited not that long ago either.
...Now I'm trying to figure out if my refusal to shop at WalMart will extend to not getting trying 99 cent Polish Dog at the Sam's on my home from work.

Man, I feel for you. My company just switched over on July first to a far inferior company with a far inferior network and with increased group member costs across the board an HRA for us do payment clawbacks from and with no regard to co-insures already paid toward your out of pocket maximum rolling over to the new (higher) out of pocket maximum crossing over. They fucked up negotiations for transition big time and I'm going to be paying a big price for it. One of the perks that keeps me here just took a serious serious nosedive and now knowing had badly the parent company is willing negotiate benefits without warning (we also lost our "don't abuse it" sick day policy, which means if it ain't FMLA and it ain't vacation you don't get paid. I consider both of these things to ultimately be a huge pay cut this year.
To say I'm angry may be a bit of understatement.
The one thing they did provide was access to a provider called "Health Care Advocate" to fight for us when it comes to coding and billing and well this rollover to Aetna. We've been on Aetna for all of 17 days and I've already had to use "Health Care Advocate" to act on my behalf to tell Aetna and Binson's if they are going to reset my CPAP lease agreement (they wouldn't let me buy outright in 2017) then they can pound salt. I argued for about four hours with brick walls before calling my advocate and give them all the pertinents in about fifteen minutes. They straightened Aetna and Binson's out in less than two hours with no further input from me. So from a sample size of one report, I consider this service to be Jesus.

Re: Random randomness
After 47 years we are shutting down my families business. It's a combination of age, money and probably just changing times. Knowing this was coming, I am surprised we made it this far, I have been working seasonally for the government.
I have been able to qualify for GEHA, which is actually pretty good insurance. When I am working for the feds they will pay for about 4/5 of the cost, when not working it will cost me around $1,000 a month for the wife, one kid and me. My wife is really happy with this development as her father has had GEHA for many years and she has seen it serve him well. Also all of doctors are approved.
By March of next year the wife will be on medicare and the kid will be too old for coverage on my account so the price will drop to about half.
We have had Blue Shield for many years, a group plan thru my business, and it has become very expensive ($1,600 per month) and the deductible is now at $5,500. So this is actually a good move for us.
I don't know if your insurance was purchased thru a broker, but they can also be a wealth of knowledge and help when it comes to arguing with your insurance carrier. I had a carrier several years back refuse coverage on something and my broker was able to point out to me exactly where it said in their policy that they covered what they were denying. Upon me bringing that up to them I suddenly got what I wanted.

It was, but by our parent company. They made the change for us. We would never have done it on our own. All of the officers of our company get the same insurance we plebes do, so they are suffering all the same problems. The broker are sales people and no help at all. They aren't accountable to us. They are accountable to the parent company who are accountable to the stock holders. I am, however, ecstatic by the crumbs. Purchasing a contract with an advocate has already saved me about $800 of Aetna/Binson's and an extra 8 months of lease contract I don't want trying to say you're screwed, get over it. The broker doesn't even know how durable medical equipment deductibles work on the policy they sold. "You'll have to check with Aetna."Scuzz wrote: ↑Tue Jul 17, 2018 3:38 pm I don't know if your insurance was purchased thru a broker, but they can also be a wealth of knowledge and help when it comes to arguing with your insurance carrier. I've been looking for a Scotch cabinet now for like 3 months and I've come to the conclusion that I either need to spend thousands of dollars to get one that's the right size -or- maybe not have so much damn Scotch. And with that, I'm off to the "Whatcha Drinking?" thread...

Well Im back on the gel. Voltaren Gel. Years ago the arthritis in the shoulder got so bad they gave me this at the pain doc to rub on it. It helped for a while but I ended up having to get a shot in my shoulder joint about 2 or 3 years ago. Its been great. No pain at all. But now its starting to creep back in. Makes sleeping hard. If I lay on my right that shoulder hurts and worse my left kidney HURTS. If I lay on my left that I normally sleep on then my should aches and keeps me up. So Im going to try this stuff again for me. Later Im going to get a shot in each shoulder Im betting.
This stuff is diclofenac sodium if you want to look it up. I cant get it anywhere near my wife.

Have I ever told the story about how the wife and I ate steamed clams on our last night in Hawaii many years ago. The short version has us heaving and shitting at 3 in the morning and then crawling to the airport by 8 for the flight home. Luckily the plane was only half full and we could actually stretch out.
